At least I have 3 teams left in the NCAAs.
Anyone who plays UND suddenly becomes my favorite squad. [:'(]

Jeff Jesser -> RE: RE:Gopher Hockey (4/1/2008 8:31:31 AM)

Anyone who beats BC is my new favorite and it has nothing to do with our loss.  I freakin' hate ESPN and once those homers are gone they have nothing to crow over.

Jim Frenette -> RE: RE:Gopher Hockey (4/10/2008 9:55:02 AM)

Frazee signed with New Jersey. H couldn't hold onto the job for the Gophers and NJ thinks he is ready for them?

So.Mn.Fan -> RE: RE:Gopher Hockey (4/10/2008 9:58:51 AM)

Well, theres no job here for him anymore, thats for sure.
Must need back-ups down in the system.
He just lost the feel for goaltending and never got it back.
Good luck to him.
We are set for 3 more years. Great feeling.

So.Mn.Fan -> RE: RE:Gopher Hockey (4/10/2008 8:14:11 PM)

Sioux go down in flames tonight, 6-1 to Boston College.
No title for the WCHA this year.

Notre Dame and BC for all the marbles.
I've never uttered these words before, but here goes....... Go Notre Dame!
Man, that tiny Gerbe kid from BC can play. Fun to watch. He destroyed UND by himself.

Jeff Jesser -> RE: RE:Gopher Hockey (4/11/2008 8:58:01 PM)

I can't believe ND beat Mich.  [:-]

Tim Cady -> RE: RE:Gopher Hockey (4/11/2008 10:48:36 PM)

I was ripping on Carney all night to my wife, I thought he was dogging it, fumbling bumbling. I take it all back!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Tim Cady -> RE: RE:Gopher Hockey (4/11/2008 10:49:46 PM)

It is off of Salie's skate!

Goal is good!!!!!!!!!!!!

Wild Win!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

So.Mn.Fan -> RE: RE:Gopher Hockey (4/12/2008 8:34:29 PM)

BC dominates.
No surprise.

Tim Cady -> RE: RE:Gopher Hockey (4/12/2008 10:05:51 PM)

Yep they look the toughest the whole tourney. They made the Souix look like a high school team.

So.Mn.Fan -> RE: RE:Gopher Hockey (4/19/2008 10:53:37 PM)

The Gopher program will really, really, miss Mike Guentzel.
A true Gopher. Put his herat and soul into this program, first as a player and for 14 years as a coach.
I think many nights, he WAS the head coach, especially when Wooger was around.
Will be intersting to see who comes on board. I think I know who.

Hockey forward Joey Miller, a former two-sport standout at Wayzata High School, verbally committed to the University of Minnesota on Friday.
Miller played for the Sioux City Musketeers of the USHL this season and was second on the team in goals with 23 and points with 49 in 62 games. The Musketeers' season ended Thursday with a loss in the playoffs.
North Dakota also was recruiting the 5-11, 195-pound Miller. He turned down a full scholarship offer from St. Lawrence.
Details of his Minnesota offer will be worked out after Gophers coach Don Lucia, who left Saturday for Florida, returns from a week of coaches' meetings.
"I don't care about [scholarship details] so much," Miller said. "[Lucia] offered me a spot, and I verbally committed. I want to be part of the team."
Tony Lucia, Miller's best friend, is a Gophers sophomore forward. Tony Lucia, Don's son, and Miller were hockey teammates from Pee Wees through high school.
"I want to be a Gopher more than I want to be a pro; hockey is so big in Minnesota," Miller said.
Miller's father, John, played football for the Gophers in the mid-1970s. Minnesota also recruited Joey for football. As a senior running back, he rushed 39 times for 252 yards as Wayzata beat Cretin-Derham Hall 28-24 for the Class 5A title in the 2005 Prep Bowl. His image is painted on a mural at the Metrodome.
But Miller wanted to play hockey, not football in college. "That's the whole reason he played juniors for two years," said Rose Miller, his mother.
Miller is the Gophers' 10th recruit for the 2008-09 season, and Don Lucia said he still wants to add two goalies, one on scholarship, the other as a walk-on.

Very happy for Mr Miller.
He was gritty and a fierce competitior in every game I've seen him play, football or hockey.
This team needs more of that.
I hope people save the "Lucias buddy" whining and let him prove himself, because he most likely will.

Ryan Potulney still has the magic, scored in the 5th OT last night to lead his Phantoms over the River Rats.
Longest game in league history.
Shots were 101 - 67 [:-]

Jeff Jesser -> RE: RE:Gopher Hockey (4/25/2008 2:35:41 PM)

Shots were 101 - 67

Us versus the Avs = 8-1 Avs.

Stacey King -> RE: RE:Gopher Hockey (5/9/2008 5:07:55 PM)

Junior center Blake Wheeler notified the University of Minnesota today that he has withdrawn from school to pursue a career in professional hockey.

---------
His play was a disappointment to me this past season.  He has a long way to go to be a productive NHL-er.

So.Mn.Fan -> RE: RE:Gopher Hockey (5/9/2008 5:52:56 PM)

Agreed, Stacey.
He should have won some games for us last year and did not.
I actually think he may become a pretty good pro, just a hunch.
But as for the Gophs, it won't hurt the young guys one bit.
This will become "their" team instead of his.
Best of Luck to Blake, he gave us many thrills. His sweeping GW vs the Sue in the Final 5 two years ago will be a part of Gopher lore forever.
One of the best plays I've ever witnessed in person.

Jeff Jesser -> RE: RE:Gopher Hockey (5/13/2008 11:50:06 AM)

He is/was another in a growing list of big power forwards who didn't live up to potential in the past couple seasons.

Tallockson
Chucko
Wheeler

Who am I missing?

So.Mn.Fan -> RE: RE:Gopher Hockey (5/13/2008 1:59:54 PM)

Flynn?
Still has time, if the injury can be overcome.
Pat White
Still has time, came on and then would disappear
Not as much po-po as the others, but I personally thought he'd be a stud

Jeff Jesser -> RE: RE:Gopher Hockey (5/13/2008 2:41:07 PM)

I liked what I saw out of both those 2 but there is a lot of room for improvement.  Hell, I though Chucko would be a top 5 pick the first couple of games I saw him play. [:o]

So.Mn.Fan -> RE: RE:Gopher Hockey (5/15/2008 4:04:28 AM)

I was thinking of Stoa also.
Will be interesting to see how he responds to losing the year to injury.
He was named Captain for next years squad I see.
In other WCHA notes, TJ Oshie is forgoing his senior year to play for St Louie in the NHL.
Glad to see him gone, one heck of a player.
Shame he didn't wear the Gopher sweater, he was the type of college player we lack lately.
Put it all on the line for his school every night.
I'm betting he has an OK pro career as well.
It will just be another level that doubts him, he's conquered many of them already.

Mike Hastings, the longtime coach of the USHL's Omaha Lancers, was hired as an assistant men's hockey coach by the University of Minnesota on Wednesday.
Omaha was the USHL's regular-season and playoffs champion this past season.
In 14 seasons at Omaha, Hastings' record was 529-210-36, making him the USHL's winningest coach. He resigned as coach after the season, but was named club president. He also was the team's general manager.
"The way I look at it, why wouldn't I?" Hastings said, when asked why he wanted the Gophers job. "I enjoy coaching, and I'm from Minnesota.
"After being in Omaha for 14 years, you want to keep pushing yourself. And I know the people I am going to work for, I know their reputations."
Hastings, 42, was a defenseman for Crookston High School. He played two seasons at St. Cloud State before a back injury ended his college career.
"I wanted someone who was experienced as a coach and recruiter," Gophers coach Don Lucia said, "and Mike has a proven record of success in both."

Jeff Jesser -> RE: RE:Gopher Hockey (5/31/2008 5:41:14 PM)

I would have preferred something like "why wouldn't I?  They are the greatest team to lace em up since the Charlestown Chiefs"....but I'll take it.

Jim Frenette -> RE: RE:Gopher Hockey (6/11/2008 11:37:43 AM)

I'm getting more disturbed with ESPN as years go by. There are many college hockey fans scattered around the US wanting to follow their team and ESPN doesn't give them any airtime until the frozen 4. Now they have no problem giving us all of this European soccer matches and scores. Do they feel there are more European fans living here then hockey fans?

Lynn G. -> RE: RE:Gopher Hockey (6/11/2008 11:40:09 AM)

Jim,

That's an excellent criticism.   Is there some kind of feedback line that people can write to ESPN with suggestions like that?
