Gophers Athletic Departement: Home of the IDIOTS.

Claeys losing commits. Athletic department people are stunned. [&o]

What a bunch of idiots. Get a degree, put some time in, brown nose here and there, and BOOM, you can run(horribly) an athletic department
at a major university.

I missed my calling.

Mr. Ed -> RE: Gopher Football (12/1/2015 12:11:29 PM)

Common Sense and the Gopher Athletic Department are like oil and water.

Toothpaste and Orange juice.

Come to the U to play football. It's f'n cold!

can't be long before that's the pitch to new recruits out of the deep South.

recruit - coach, what can you offer me?

TC's - extremely cold weather, lutefisk and polka music son!

TJSweens -> RE: Gopher Football (12/1/2015 12:31:43 PM)

Don't forget a 50-50 shot at the Toilet Paper Bowl Jeff.

Jeff Jesser -> RE: Gopher Football (12/1/2015 12:34:36 PM)

oh yeah, who doesn't want that Prestige?

The thrill of a 3-1 start against scrub teams is a huge selling point.

I'm not touching that one!

Phil Riewer -> RE: Gopher Football (12/1/2015 1:59:33 PM)

Under Mason....pretty good recruits but only results on the offense side of the ball.
Under Tim Brewster...pretty good recruits that couldn't be coached up on either side.
Under Kill....so so recruits but so far only results on the defense side and TE/RB on the offense---seems like we can't develop QB/WR in the old system.

If I was a talent on the offensive side I would not come to MN either.....not a system made for QBs or WRs.
They should be able to keep their def recruits but I don't expect any offense recruits to stay on until we hear who the new Off Cordinator/QB Coach is......

Jeff Jesser -> RE: Gopher Football (12/1/2015 3:07:32 PM)

Good because if they were recruited to play in ML's system, I don't/didn't want them anyway. We need ATHLETES. It's 2015!

Bruce Johnson -> RE: Gopher Football (12/2/2015 12:26:58 AM)

The U is still a good place for a rb to play for.

TJSweens -> RE: Gopher Football (12/2/2015 8:30:26 AM)

Unless your name is Jeff Jones.

TE and RB have done pretty good in Kill's system.

We got to "almost relevant" in my eyes, when we finally loaded up on defensive backfield ATHLETES as Jeff says.
To me it was the first sign we understood what we needed.
Injuries derailed that this year, but we have to keep building that way.

Jeff Jesser -> RE: Gopher Football (12/2/2015 11:45:32 AM)

I agree man. I'm guessing that's why TC's was so quick to get rid of ML. TC's played up to the decade but ML seemed to be stuck in the 80's. I bet it pissed TC's off.

Hey at least there is mention of the Gophers by the Rose Bowl Committee Chairman. Whoot!

That's as close as the Gophers will ever get to a Rose Bowl for the next few decades - as an example in fantasy scenario where they somehow finish 2nd behind a team that's been there back-to-back-to-back years.

Does Vegas offer something like multi-year progressive bets in which you can place a bet now and pick a team to never succeed at something, and then get the progressive payout X number of years later? The Gophers would be a shoe-in for such a bet, though I suspect the odds would be so close to even that they still wouldn't payout squat after several decades.

twinsfan -> RE: Gopher Football (12/3/2015 2:44:14 PM)

The 5-7 Gophers appear headed to a bowl game.

Without enough 6-6 teams, the NCAA said Monday, the remaining spots will go to five-win programs with the best Academic Progress Rate. Considering the scenarios, the Gophers are at least tied for the 80th and final bowl spot.

Before the NCAA set its new guidelines, Gophers coach Tracy Claeys said a bowl berth would benefit younger players and give most of his seniors one last chance to suit up.

"I think it would be great news," Claeys said.

Currently, five spots are left to be filled, with three 5-6 teams -- Kansas State, South Alabama and Georgia State -- able to lock up bids with sixth wins Saturday. All three teams are big underdogs.

The top 5-7 team in APR is Nebraska (985), so the Cornhuskers are bowl eligible. Next is Missouri (976), but its athletics director has declined, citing a focus on finding a coach.

Kansas State's APR is tied with Missouri's, so the Wildcats likely will go to a bowl game, win or lose Saturday. So as of now, if the three 5-6 teams win, the Gophers are tied with San Jose State for the 80th spot with matching APRs of 975.

Claeys said Monday that his team is prepared for the possibility of a bowl game, adding, "but at the same time, they know that there are some odds to getting that done."

The selection of teams will include honoring conferences' partnerships with bowls. The Big Ten has affiliations with 10 bowls and eight teams with six or more wins.

Three bowls have the option to take teams from the ACC.

Lower-tier destinations could be the Quick Lane Bowl on Dec. 28 in Detroit, the Pinstripe Bowl on Dec. 26 in New York and the Armed Forces Bowl on Dec. 29 in Fort Worth, Texas.

Two ESPN analysts projected Monday that the Gophers could play in the Quick Lane Bowl. ESPN listed Central Michigan and California as possible opponents. On Sunday, CBS Sports projected the Gophers to be playing North Carolina State in the Pinstripe Bowl.

The bowl lineup will be announced Sunday. Until then, Claeys said, the Gophers will wait.

"We are going to continue to lift weights and condition and move that way and hear in a week for our situation," Claeys said.

Former offensive coordinator Matt Limegrover, who was fired Sunday along with quarterbacks coach Jim Zebrowski, said he's confident the remaining coaching staff -- graduate assistants Trevor Olson for the offensive line and Adam Weber with the quarterbacks -- would do well.

"If the bowl game came up, the remaining guys on the staff would do a great job," Limegrover said.

Limegrover is a stand-up guy.

Gophers will go to a bowl I'm sure. That's good.

Embarrassing

bgdavis -> RE: Gopher Football (12/3/2015 3:55:33 PM)

Way too many bowls exist if they need to dredge up losing teams to participate. I know they would never do it, but CFB should reduce the number of bowls to a point where only teams with winning records get invited. And yes, I know that means also pruning out mediocre teams with .500 records.

Bill Jandro -> RE: Gopher Football (12/3/2015 4:05:13 PM)

Quick Lane Bowl

Pinstripe Bowl

[&:][&:][&:]

Might as well have a "Toilet Bowl" game as well.

twinsfan -> RE: Gopher Football (12/3/2015 4:27:01 PM)

The Pinstripe Bowl is at Yankee Stadium. That would be pretty cool.

Black 47 -> RE: Gopher Football (12/3/2015 4:42:01 PM)

Turning down a bowl game is one way of saying "this is not acceptable". That said, they'll accept an invitation.
