I don't get why you would turn down a bowl game. If nothing else, it's a chance to get some young guys more experience.

twinsfan -> RE: Gopher Football (12/3/2015 4:44:50 PM)

We just are not on the same page today, Black.

Because when you get beat, on TV, to the Juilliard Flaming Lips it looks kinda bad. Recruits notice that kinda thing.

I just know Leinart grows that beard in one day. Bastard.

I get why we should be ashamed to accept a bowl bid at 5-7. However, given the circumstances of the season I don't find it to be a negative. It will give the new staff more time with these kids, practice preparing for a bowl game, more experience in their new positions, which will help with next year, some additional revenue, and exposure (hopefully positive exposure).

Iowa takes a 50 point beating from us, and in one year turns it into almost-a-run-at-a-natty-championship.
And the people in our program look at ya and go ... "yeah? so?"
How do we not get what has happened since that day?

Still pissing me off.

There is no doubt you are correct. It just sucks to accept. So much unearned hype at the beginning of the year and sucked that leach down hook/line/sinker. [:@]

It makes no sense how the refs called offside on that North Carolina onside kick. The only explanation is the conference wanted desperately to have an undefeated Clemson team. What a joke.

This is easily the worst year of reff'ing we've ever seen. Just some unbelievable calls.

Is this the old Motor City Bowl?

SoMnFan -> RE: Gopher Football (12/6/2015 5:00:35 PM)

The Quick Lane Bowl is a post-season college football bowl game certified by the NCAA that began play in the 2014 season. Backed by the Detroit Lions of the National Football League, the game features a bowl-eligible team from the Big Ten Conference competing against an opponent from the Atlantic Coast Conference.

The Quick Lane Bowl is played at Ford Field in Detroit, Michigan as a de facto replacement for the Little Caesars Pizza Bowl, and inherited its traditional December 26 scheduling. Unlike its predecessor, which placed the 8th place team in the Big Ten against the Mid-American champion, the competing teams are selected by conference representatives and not based on final rankings. The Ford Motor Company serves as title sponsor of the game through its auto shop brand Quick Lane.

The inaugural game between the Rutgers Scarlet Knights and North Carolina Tar Heels was played on December 26, 2014, marking the first time the two teams had ever played each other in a bowl game

SoMnFan -> RE: Gopher Football (12/6/2015 5:02:19 PM)

Had no idea Central Michigan plays in the ACC [:D]

SoMnFan -> RE: Gopher Football (12/6/2015 5:09:08 PM)

Crazy shit is .... the Chippewas will PACK that place.
60,000 people will show, and 59,900 will be for Central Mich.

Jeff Jesser -> RE: Gopher Football (12/6/2015 6:42:53 PM)

What an absolute sham. We are really going to play a game, sponsored by the Lions of all teams that pits a shitty B10 team against a shitty ACC team that plays in the MAC?

I'm so confused [:o]

Our season sucked. This bowl game sucks. Our AD and HC went AWOL for different reasons. We had lost an enormous amount of games due to inury. Most players who did play didn't progress as we would've liked and the revised coaching staff left much to be desired. I don't like it either, but it is what it is going forward. This group needs experience. Hopefully something positive comes from this.

SoMnFan -> RE: Gopher Football (12/7/2015 7:25:00 AM)

We're # 38!!!!! (out of 40)

38. Quick Lane Bowl (Dec. 28, Detroit, Michigan) — Central Michigan (7-5) vs. Minnesota (5-7)

If Minnesota wins this game, it would still finish the season with a losing record.Central Michigan, on the other hand, hasn’t won eight games since 2009. Central Michigan has some good wins this year and stayed close with Michigan State for a good portion of the game. So this could be an unexpectedly good contest.

Ryan Buckingham -> RE: Gopher Football (12/7/2015 9:04:08 AM)

SO the Gophers are playing in the WhoGivesACrap.com Toilet Bowl. I don't care how bad it looks. They need some more time. The team is packed with 3rd string guys who need playing time. Some don't like the coaching staff, but I totally disagree. I feel like the kids out there at the end of the season were overmatched physically, but were actually prepared to play. They were "coached up" and got what could be gotten out of them. They lost by 5 points AT Iowa when they had so many guys out there that I've never heard of playing being a MASH unit offensive line and playing 3rd string defensive backs. Iowa was within a whisker of playing in the final four. Yes, it IS embarrassing to be in this bowl game, and in this situation, BUT we can get something positive out of the preparation time. I do believe that when they had the first stringers out there, they were a tough team. Even Mitch Leidner looked good at times. We could have easily beaten Michigan, maybe lost to Kent and Ohio. This, like many of our beloved Minnesota sports season left us disappointed. I do feel that the coaching staff is good at developing players, a must for a school that isn't going to get many outstanding recruits.
