Our local HS receiver made his Gopher intent official today.
Will be interesting to see if he makes it.

The guy from Gopher Illustrated that the Gophers had a good recruiting class at receiver even without Snelson because of the in state kids that stayed home. Your boy must be one of the ones he was talking about.

Huge promotional push lately on Leidner
Smarter

That'd be great. Hope it's true.

Any mention of "more accurate-errrrerrr"?

SoMnFan -> RE: Gopher Football (4/3/2016 9:24:49 AM)

"We can rebuild him" ......

SoMnFan -> RE: Gopher Football (4/3/2016 9:36:41 AM)

They've had several interviews with him and he's all wide-eyed and excited.
Supposedly this new look offense has
Reads
Routes
Options
Crazy, out of the box stuff like that. [&:][&:][&:]

Jeff Jesser -> RE: Gopher Football (4/3/2016 6:50:17 PM)

It's better than LG's offense of:

"Adams, your the rock"
"Butler, your the rock"
"Carter, your the rock"
"Dennis, your the rock"

"now, 'rocks'....run in circles until the Stick (aka ML) panics and has to run for 2".

Pretty interesting peek at the Spring Game yesterday on the B10 network.
We look fairly athletic.
The new QB is intriguing.
Claeys needs to go on a weight program of his own. Holy cow guy. Get it under control ....

SoMnFan -> RE: Gopher Football (4/10/2016 11:33:18 PM)

Happy Spring Game Saturday everyone! Minnesota's 2017 recruiting class has it's first commit and it's an extremely important one. 3 star offensive tackle (and top ranked recruit for the state of Minnesota) Blaise Andries has verbally committed to the Gophers!

Blaise chose the Gophers over a huge list of Power 5 programs, including Big Ten foes Michigan State, Nebraska, Northwestern, and Penn State as well as teams like Florida, Miami, Oregon, and TCU. This is a HUGE get for the Gophers and one that everyone should be very excited about.

Blaise is a composite 3 star recruit, ranked #1 in the state of Minnesota, #35 for all offensive tackles in the US, and #316 overall according to 247. GN will have more on Blaise's committment and what it means, but for now let this serve as a great warmup to get you excited for today's Spring Game!

That makes two Gopher recruits in my back yard.
Lets just see how this goes.

TJSweens -> RE: Gopher Football (4/11/2016 8:48:29 AM)

I like Pirsig's comments about playing next to juco transfer Vincent Calhoun:

“Vince is a strong dude,” Pirsig said. “It’s fun watching him on film take guys and just throw them into another gap.”

I like Claeys' approach to the O-line. It's all about establishing physical dominance up front. That's why he brought in Bart Miller. He wants his linemen to come off the ball and just beat the holy crap out of the guy on the other side of the line.

David Levine -> RE: Gopher Football (5/9/2016 2:05:06 PM)

So Todd McShay thinks Mitch Leidner might be a 1st round pick?

Wow...

TJSweens -> RE: Gopher Football (5/9/2016 2:28:57 PM)

Read that about a week ago and I am still trying to wrap my brain around it. Are there some hidden analytics that say Mitch is better than we thought or is the 2017 QB class that bad or is McShay full of shit?

Figured there had to be more to that story ....

Mr. Ed -> RE: Gopher Football (5/16/2016 9:04:45 PM)

Ricky Foggie moves on from Red Wing to coach Eagan HS, where he resides.

GO FOGGIE

One of my favorites

Mr. Ed -> RE: Gopher Football (5/18/2016 8:53:17 AM)

Jerry Kill moves on to K-State to work w/in the football program.

There was some real issues we probably don't know much about in the U program that led to all of this stuff happening.

TJSweens -> RE: Gopher Football (5/18/2016 9:14:13 AM)

I think Kill wanted to remain attached to the football program here. There was a lot of resistance to the idea because it would make it more difficult for Claeys to establish himself as the man in charge of the football program. Personally, I agree with that view. There would be a lot of distractions from who is really in charge, to Claeys looking over his shoulder, to speculation of Kill taking the HC job back. I thought hiring Claeys was premature, but they gave him the job and they owe it to him to let him put his own stamp on it, free of distractions of the administrations creation. I also think that as you listen to Claeys there are some definite philosophical differences between him and Kill. Just look at the coaching moves Claeys made. That could have created an awkward working relationship. FWIW, in spite of myself, I am getting a good vibe regarding Claeys.

2018 Marshall (Minn.) quarterback Trey Lance shines at Gophers summer camp over the weekend, and he talks about his recruiting with GopherDigest.

"I thought it went pretty well, I learned a lot about what I need to work on, and it was exciting to see some of the competition," 2018 Marshall (Minn.) quarterback Trey Lance said to GopherDigest. "I had a lot of fun competing and I found a lot of areas where I can improve also. I really enjoyed working with quarterback's coach Jay Johnson as he's a great coach. It was a great opportunity to be able to be coached by a Division 1 quarterback coach, and to be able to do some of the drills that they do in practice at that level too was great. After camp, I just thanked all the Minnesota coaches that I know for a great camp."
Lance had a teammate helping him each step of the way during the Minnesota camp.
"Blaise Andries came up with me and my dad Saturday night, and having him there helped calm some nerves for me coming into camp," Lance explained. "During camp he was always giving me tips to do each drill, he's been a great role model and a great friend of mine. Drew Hmielewski and Blaise are really good friends of mine, but I have a lot of individual work to do before college football is even an option for me, as of right now, I'm focused on my high school team and being the best that we can be. Coach Johnson worked with me on my off hand and raising my throwing arm so I can have a higher release, and working on speed, strength, agility and footwork are just a couple of the other things I can definitely get better at."
The thought of playing college football has always been something the Marshall quarterback has been working toward.
"It's been a dream of mine since I was little," Lance said about the thought of playing college football. "Living in Minnesota, I've always been a Gopher fan, my dad is a Florida State fan, so growing up, me and my little brother have been Florida Gator fans. It would be awesome to receive a Minnesota offer, but as of now, I have a lot to work on before I'm recruited by anybody, I just need to stay focused on my individual skills and my high school team, and I'll keep working to reach my goals. I'm going to Nebraska next Friday, and our high school team goes to SDSU, and after that I have NDSU, then the Minnesota Junior Elite Camp."
