The kid from Missouri decommitted from the Gophers altogether then recommitted and signed. William's told the Pioneer Press that he is still committed to Minnesota, but was going to finish his official visits before signing in the regular period. He may switch, but it is far from a foregone conclusion.

He should be smacked with an oar.

I've got an oar coming your way in a very dark place.

So you're gonna go colonoscopy on him?

I was expecting lots of recruiting chat here. Almost none. Now I'm going to have to do my own research.

TJSweens -> RE: Gopher Football (12/20/2018 2:49:17 PM)

The class overall looks pretty good. Fleck has prioritized DL and has come away with some real talent in that area even if Williams were to flip his commitment. Rashad Cheney is supposed to be a pass rushing monster who capped his career in getting 4 sacks and a forced fumble in the championship game, leading his team to the Georgia state championship.

There continues to be a significant uptick in the caliber of QB, Fleck is bringing in. We've discussed Clark and Cole Kramer from Eden Prairie is no slouch either.

Fleck continues to win battles against good programs and make inroads where the Gophers have been unable to recruit in the past. He's pulling recruits out of Florida, Texas and Georgia in surprising numbers.

The star ratings really only tell a small part of the story. What's the difference between a recruiting class that has an average recruit of 3.5 stars and 3.3 stars? What I like is that Fleck has been getting recruits that other schools want. I especially love that he is beating Iowa in recruiting wars to the point that Frerentz and son are throwing pissy bitch fits over it. I'm also pretty sure that more Wisconsin kids are coming to Minnesota than vice versa for a change.

Fleck still has 4 scholarships in his pocket for the February signing period, so the class could get even better. He is getting them in the door. Now it's a matter of coaching them up.

SMF is not liking our jokes.

I think we're hilarious. Like Penn & Teller. Or like Williams & Ree. Or like Sigmund & Froud.

David Levine -> RE: Gopher Football (12/20/2018 5:20:50 PM)

This seems like an exceptional hire. Young guy with a hell of a resume:

The Minnesota Golden Gophers have hired Maine head coach Joe Harasymiak as a new defensive assistant, taking the coaching position vacated by Robb Smith, who was fired at midseason. Defensive line coach Joe Rossi assumed Smith’s responsibilities as interim defensive coordinator before being promoted to the role permanently at the conclusion of the regular season.

Harasymiak, 32, has spent virtually his entire coaching career at Maine. He started as defensive backs coach with the Black Bears from 2011-13, before being promoted to defensive coordinator and linebackers coach for 2014-15. In his two seasons as defensive coordinator, the Black Bears’ defense ranked in the top three of the Colonial Athletic Association and top 20 nationally.

Rossi was the defensive coordinator at Maine in 2011 when Harasymiak was first hired.

Harasymiak was named interim head coach at Maine in November 2015 and emerged from a national coaching search as the top candidate out of four finalists for the permanent position. In three seasons at the helm, he amassed a combined record of 20-15 and led the Black Bears to their best season in program history in 2018, with a 10-4 record and a trip to the FCS Semifinals.

As for what specific role he will be assuming at Minnesota, stay tuned for an announcement.

It was a team effort. I totally set him up on purpose.

SoMnFan -> RE: Gopher Football (12/26/2018 7:41:14 AM)

I hear there's a game sometime this week
Today maybe?

Jeff Jesser -> RE: Gopher Football (12/26/2018 9:14:17 AM)

Yeap and our possible 7th round draft picks are sitting it out so they don't hurt their draft stock [>:]

TJSweens -> RE: Gopher Football (12/26/2018 9:23:39 AM)

Well, in fairness, one of them did need surgery.

I hear we're pretty young.

TJSweens -> RE: Gopher Football (12/26/2018 11:57:40 AM)

8 freshman starters on offense today.

SoMnFan -> RE: Gopher Football (12/26/2018 1:21:18 PM)

Looks like we're the first B10 team to play this Bowl season.
Oh boy.

That "special teams money" must have increased without the rest of us knowing it.

Karl Juhnke -> RE: Gopher Football (12/26/2018 5:08:34 PM)

Georgia Tech looks like they haven't played against big boys this year. They're getting smashed in the mouth. Welcome to Big 10 football fellas.

Karl Juhnke -> RE: Gopher Football (12/26/2018 6:27:49 PM)

Now I remember why the option offense died.

Army is pretty darn tough with it, but others? not so much.

That TD should do it. 27-10 Gophers. Woot woot!!

This is why I am unimpressed with Clemson. They have to play one of the weakest Power 5 schedules in all of college football every year.

Yeah meanwhile Big 10 teams get pounded by each other all year long. To the detriment of their bowl status.
