ORIGINAL: Jeff Jesser No offense man, but I'm using this to illustrate my point. The MN Gophers are a TD fav over Nebraska [:-] We are headed in a good direction. That was a headline you would see, what? 30 years ago? We have issues but I'm really starting to like this Fleck thing. His weird 'row the boat' thing has settled down and he's starting to win games I would have laughed off. We got some big ones coming up though that will let us know where we are in the food chain. Jeff I think I felt the same about Fleck’s style as you. I was first aware of Fleck when he had the Cotton Bowl game vs Wisconsin. They showed a clip of him giving a hackneyed rah rah speech, and did a profile on him and I remember thinking, “I would HATE having him coach Minnesota”. So of course, he ends up coaching Minnesota. But the thing is, his team gave Wisconsin all it could handle. They were impressive. So I figured this guy must be doing something right. I’ll give him a chance. See, I don’t have to like his style and you don’t have to, but the players seem to love it, and he’s a heck of a recruiter too. He was a elementary education major, and he uses those methods in coaching... on steroids. It probably isn’t the dumbest approach to treat your players like overgrown 3rd graders. And though he still makes me cringe at least 5 times every interview or show or press conference or speech he gives, I remember there could be worse things than having a tireless energizer bunny promoting the program. Bingo. He doesn't have to present himself in a way that we Baby Boomers love. He needed to present himself in a way that makes Millenials and now Generation Z fired up. He seems to have that in spades. He is getting players to come here that we never had a shot at in the past. Mason and Kill were mediocre recruiters, but were that old school, we'll just coach up the guys we get. Basement Brew was supposed to be this big recruiter. Unfortunately, he couldn't coach his way out of a paper bag. Fleck seems to be able to do both.
