Pete, RE: 2 and 5.

2. He's been amazing at times, and not to beat the dead horse, but we've mentioned it in the past. He drops some really easy balls. It's ok when they aren't that important. I agree, that was the game if he just makes a routine catch.

5. I don't agree. If Fleck doesn't go on to the field it's first and goal and we get points. Yeah, they didn't, but it cost us.

Another point I forgot to mention earlier. His K was a wreck, I get it. But you have to get 3, in a tight game, when you are in side the 20. It's a gimmee situation regardless of how your guy is doing. You can't go for a 4th and long in that situation. It was a short sided decision at that point in the game IMO.

I hope we learn because 10-0 was there for the taking.

On #5, according to Fox referee guru, it was going to be Iowa ball regardless. PJ cost us 15 yards, not possession.

He did (the "guru") but I don't agree with him at all. It was a personal foul, even though it was after the play was over. It should have 1st and goal, half the distance to us. Is a late hit on the QB enforced after there is a change of possession? No. It was a strange play all around but wouldn't matter if Johnson just catches that ball.

I was at Kinnick today. Great atmosphere, fun hanging out with a ton of Gopher fans, but a tough result. A few takeaways:

(1) Gotta respectfully disagree with the view they were unprepared or uninterested. They played hard and never gave up. The big key was that they had a bad defensive game plan to start. Very conservative, no pass rush in the first half, and you let Stanley get unbelievably comfortable. The second-half, aggressive game plan should have been the first half plan. Too bad. Hopefully Rossi learns something.

Defensive game planning is part of being prepared. I also saw a lack of intensity at the start. They demonstrated a lot of fight back, no doubt about it, but they spent the better part of the first half getting pushed around.

My greatest concern now is Morgan. Fleck says he is in concussion protocol

Great to see the on-site report Pete, love those.
Was a fun game to watch for the most part, except the result.
Kept waiting for us to separate, and we couldn't.
Better not get into the mistakes by the coaching staff, that might anger a few.
But we were outcoached, and outplayed, simply.
Not a shock to lose there, looks like the odds-makers were pretty spot-on.
Northwestern will have to be approached the same way. Until we fully turn a corner, we can never go on the road and assume we will win games.
Thanks for representing, Pete. Great to see all the Gopher fans there, sad you all couldn't celebrate a win.

The game in a nutshell.

I see the Strib says the Gophers “sagged “ to #11

Eh

Big deal

Lose to NW

And you’ll really see a sag

Drop 3 spots isn’t a big deal

Yep
I felt that drop was generous
The NW game will probably tell a lot about us.
Doesn't need to be a big emotional deal. Just need to head there and take care of bidness.
If they don't …. we have a problem.

Phil Riewer -> RE: Gopher Football (11/18/2019 11:29:02 AM)

Iowa loss or win; in order to make the playoffs they need to beat OSU or Penn State in the Big Ten playoff game and take care of business in the next two games.

twinsfan -> RE: Gopher Football (11/19/2019 2:00:51 PM)

We're in trouble if Tanner Morgan can't play on Saturday. We don't even have The Ax anymore. Seemed like a possible phantom foot injury? Very few details.

TJSweens -> RE: Gopher Football (11/19/2019 2:08:10 PM)

Fleck says Morgan is doing well and is day to day. The comments from the people around him indicate that he feels fine.

Ax's foot injury was a fracture that required surgery to fix. I wasn't phantom.

SoMnFan -> RE: Gopher Football (11/19/2019 2:31:55 PM)

Wouldn't we just go Green?
He'd be fun to watch for a whole game, imo.

Yeah, an entire game of Green keeping the ball out of the wildcat formation.

I didn't say it would be successful, I said it would be "fun"
In a weird kind of way …..

It would sure make Jesser blow a gasket.

Jesser blew his last gasket during Leidner's senior year.

Doesn't need to be the whole game, but could be a significant portion of the game. Need to work on broadening the repertoire of the Wildcat set anyway. Need some handoffs, throws, other variations on tape for future opponents to worry about. If we can get up on NW by a decent margin, even if Morgan can go, it would be a smart maneuver to put some of that out there.

Jeff Jesser -> RE: Gopher Football (11/19/2019 10:18:10 PM)

You guys think I know what a gasket is? Wow, that might be the worst understanding of a persons intelligence since sliced bread.

TJSweens -> RE: Gopher Football (11/20/2019 7:57:07 AM)

Are you saying you're not the sharpest bulb in the shed.

MDK -> RE: Gopher Football (11/20/2019 3:14:26 PM)

Gophers safety Antoine Winfield Jr., is one of five finalists named Wednesday for the Bronko Nagurski Trophy.

The annual award from the Football Writers Association of America recognizes the best defensive player in college football. Winfield is up against Auburn defensive tackle Derrick Brown, Georgia safety J.R. Reed, Clemson linebacker Isaiah Simmons and Ohio State defensive end Chase Young, with the award decided on Dec. 9.

From the Strib

Good luck Antoine!!!

Penn State's game with Ohio State this weekend …. will clarify a few things we do not know.

TJSweens -> RE: Gopher Football (11/23/2019 10:57:10 AM)

Morgan is good to go. 👍

Should be rooting for Ohio State in that one. Likely better bowl implications for Gophers if Ohio State continues winning and become a clear cut entry to the final 4. Or even if Gophers could somehow beat Ohio State in Big Ten Championship, so much the better if Ohio St was undefeated at the time.

Run game ineffective early. Slant game solid as usual.

bstinger -> RE: Gopher Football (11/23/2019 11:20:30 AM)

Nice pass/catch to Bateman!

Karl Juhnke -> RE: Gopher Football (11/23/2019 11:21:30 AM)

Morgan looking sharp so far. Nice throw on the TD.
