Pac 10 allegedly is pushing to invite the TX OK schools and colorado to join the pac 10, which would basically kill the big 12.

Interesting.

Jim Frenette -> RE: Gopher Football (6/3/2010 3:45:09 PM)

If those 2 schools are willing to move, then their best bet would be to ask the Big 10 if they could join. Big 10 mhas the biggest revenue per school

Jim Frenette -> RE: Gopher Football (6/4/2010 9:43:58 AM)

I'd personally not want to see the Big 12 busted up. If the Big 10 adds teams, I would want to have them get ND, Pitt or maybe Rutgers. Don't mind busting up the big East

drew -> RE: Gopher Football (6/4/2010 9:51:16 AM)

I don't like this manuevering of the conferences. People complain now at the end of seasons saying the schedule is unbalanced, just wait until there's 16 teams in a conference. Teams will be playing 10 game conference seasons because of the size of the conferences and there will be no interesting non-conference games. Jim, while the Big East doesn't do much for me in football, I really don't want to see it broken up for basketball.

To me, it just seems like one or two schools made some comments about moving conferences and now everyone is overreacting and covering their butts in case they lose a bunch of members. Leave it like it is, there's nothing wrong with the conferences right now!

TJSweens -> RE: Gopher Football (6/4/2010 10:57:35 AM)

The conferences will be broken into 2 divisions of 8. Each team will play their division rivals and probably one team in the other division. The 2 division winners likely meet for the conference championship. The Big Ten will expand without a doubt. They will want to strengthen the east coast as a recruiting area and more importantly add heavily populated areas for the Big Ten TV Network. They are going east. Syracuse and Rutgers are almost slam dunks in my opinion. Notre Dame is probably the next most likely because of their national appeal. I don't know if they will push to 16 right away or wait and see before adding 2 more teams.

Mr. Ed -> RE: Gopher Football (6/9/2010 8:53:16 AM)

Sounds like Nebraska joining the Big 10 is almost a done deal.

SoMnFan -> RE: Gopher Football (6/9/2010 9:16:06 AM)

Still amazes me if that happens.
That'd seem like the Yankees joining the AL Central, in my world.
Growing up, the Big Ten always seemed notches below the Nebraskas and Oklahomas of the world.
Maybe that was skewed by being a Gopher fan, tho. [:D]

TJSweens -> RE: Gopher Football (6/9/2010 9:29:50 AM)

Ohio State and Michigan were just as dominant during those years. The Gopher beat writer from the PP was on KFAN yesterday. From what he said it sounds like the Big Ten's first choice was to have just Notre Dame join the conference. It sounds like they won't join if the Big Ten adds more teams to make a super conference. ND likes the independent status and being able to book big name schools on it's schedule. That will become harder for them if this Pac 10 super conference with Texas happens, so they might ultimately have to join a conference.

The Big 10 pays more of the money to schools then any other conference

twinsfan -> RE: Gopher Football (6/10/2010 8:41:21 AM)

After adding Nebraska, now the Big Ten needs to court some programs like Iowa State; you know, someone more on the Gophers' level for basketball and football. If we add Nebraska, Kansas, etc., it's just gonna push the Gophers closer to the bottom of a mega conference.

SoMnFan -> RE: Gopher Football (6/12/2010 12:36:10 AM)

Want to see embarassing?
Watch what happens when Nebraska plays in our stadium.
We'll be known as North Lincoln.
Best investment the next couple years may be a gas station between Nebraska and the other Big 16 schools.
They travel well. Very well. We are light-years behind that program in EVERY aspect.

Not only do they travel well, but they already are at Sensors in Bloomington Sat afternoons

With Nebraska joining it drops Gophers down another tier

Jeff Jesser -> RE: Gopher Football (6/12/2010 8:23:25 PM)

Oh yeah?  Well wait until they meet in hockey.  Mariucci will be 60% Gopher fans and 40% emtpy [8|]

Holy Crap.
Just watched the Big Ten preview for the upcoming FB season.
The Big Ten looks damn strong and we don't. Doesn't bode well. [:o]

Seemed like every preview was ... "return 18-20 starters off a team that won 10/11 games"
Ouuuuch.

Karl Juhnke -> RE: Gopher Football (8/4/2010 10:45:05 AM)

Don't worry.  Brewster swears this team is bigger, stronger, faster, better than ever.  I have no reason to doubt him.

SoMnFan -> RE: Gopher Football (8/5/2010 8:34:00 PM)

Whew!
Good point, Karl ....
I feel much better. [:D]

Karl H -> RE: Gopher Football (8/17/2010 10:46:35 AM)

This thread's pretty quiet with the opener just a couple weeks away.....not that we've had a lot to get excited about.....

Gopher's 4 point dogs to Middle Tennessee State???

Well, at least we don't have to face the powerhouses like USC and Nebraska ......

uh-oh .........

twinsfan -> RE: Gopher Football (8/19/2010 2:55:28 PM)

I heard Brewster has already committed to Adam Weber as his starting QB this season. Based on what?

Based on apparently trying to prove he has no idea what he's doing.

That'll do it.

<optimism>
I don't think we'll suck.  Right now I think we are about as good as last years team, which did win 6 games......and we should be noticeably better toward the end of season.  One problem is that nearly all the teams we play this year are better than they were last year.  Still, I'm predicting 7 wins (including a minor bowl win).
</optimism>
