Weber passed chuck long for B10 yardage/career. Whoop de do

It'll be pretty in the record books, but the end result? Kid cannot consistently QB an offense.

You can't put this all on Weber. It is a team game. There have been many gmes in his career that he has put enough on the board for a win but the defense gave up way to many. Last 10 years the biggest problem with the team has been defense

Jeff Jesser -> RE: Gopher Football (11/8/2010 3:28:05 PM)

Yeap D has sucked too.

It's official now that Adam Weber is the greatest QB in Big Ten history.

Gophers soon to have competition in the coach search as Colo close to firing Hawkins

Wasn't Hawkins at Boise State prior to going to CU?

Really surprised he wasn't successful at CU.....they have a more recent history of success than the Gophers and Hawkins seemed like a very good coach.

The playing field in college football has really been leveled and it is very difficult for good coaches to get a program up to the level of elite.

I think you're correct on the BS gig

I heard the problem with the team was a shortage of talent, some 3* players didn't pan out.

SoMnFan -> RE: Gopher Football (11/10/2010 7:50:22 PM)

Hawkins was almost as succesful at Boise as the miracle worker Peterson ... something like 59-13?
Anyway, he had a lot to do with building that program into a power.
(that said, no way do I hire him here)

SoMnFan -> RE: Gopher Football (11/11/2010 11:45:20 AM)

My bad .... 53-11 at Boise
Still amazing.

Mr. Ed -> RE: Gopher Football (11/12/2010 5:57:14 AM)

Take this one off the rumor mill, apparently

Vikings defensive coordinator Leslie Frazier said Thursday that he hasn't been officially contacted by the Gophers about their head coaching job and added that even if he was he wants to remain in the NFL.
"At this stage of my career I kind of like what we're doing in the NFL," Frazier said. "So we'll see what happens."
Frazier's name was one of the first names mentioned after Tim Brewster was fired last month.
Frazier, the Vikings' defensive coordinator since 2007, has interviewed for six NFL head coaching jobs over the past three years. The 51-year-old still wants to coach but he would like it to be in the NFL. "It's one of my goals," he said. "One day. Who knows if it will happen? But that's a goal."
If the Vikings were to make an in-season move and fire coach Brad Childress, the expectation among many is that Frazier would be given the job on an interim basis and that would serve as an audition for him to potentially get the position on a permanent basis.

SoMnFan -> RE: Gopher Football (11/12/2010 8:15:37 AM)

That one never did make any sense.
It's a reverse-step imo.

Jim Frenette -> RE: Gopher Football (11/12/2010 9:49:48 AM)

The U paper had an article saying that Maturi shouldn't be able to pick the next coach. I'm not disagreeing with it, but that would put the school in a big problem. Brunicks won't hire a new AD since he is on his way out and new President won't be here until the spring. Can't wait that long for a new coach so it has to be Maturi

strib blog

Naming a finalist for the University of Minnesota presidency wasn't the only item of interest at Friday's meeting of the university's Board of Regents. Members were also updated, in general terms, about the ongoing search for a new football coach.
"We will have a very strong pool" of candidates to choose from, board chairman Clyde Allen said. "We have a very strong team working on that effort. Some of the names of people working with (athletic director Joel Maturi are) well-known names and well-respected."
Allen reiterated his support for Maturi, who is in charge of the search for Tim Brewster's successor, and outgoing president Robert Bruininks, who will approve Maturi's choice. "It is this administration that will make the decision," Allen said. "There is a very large and strong group who have passion. Most work very quietly and very effectively behind the scenes. I want to assure you that the team working on the issue is knowledgeable and passionate. It's moving along well."

SoMnFan -> RE: Gopher Football (11/12/2010 3:45:18 PM)

I don't feel any better after reading that ....    [&:]

SoMnFan -> RE: Gopher Football (11/13/2010 8:26:07 AM)

I'm also praying that this Illini team doesn't remember some of the beatings we put on them when they were way down, and were not-quite-as-far down.
Because, they have the ability to put up a hundred on us if they wish.
I'm betting those NOT in the know think this is another "winnable" game.
This isn't a typical Illini team. They have a very nice team right now.

David Levine -> RE: Gopher Football (11/13/2010 11:05:16 AM)

Weber gets very lucky as he starts the game with an absolutely atrocious pass...

David Levine -> RE: Gopher Football (11/13/2010 12:10:24 PM)

Turning into a good game.

SoMnFan -> RE: Gopher Football (11/13/2010 12:40:47 PM)

Hey, hey!
Did I get them fired up? Up by 10 at half.... I'm impressed.

Knew Iowa would have their hands full today. NW giving them all they can handle and then some.
The Big Ten this year is much better, and much more balanced top to bottom.
There are only one or two teams who are beatable every week.  [:o]

SoMnFan -> RE: Gopher Football (11/13/2010 12:52:29 PM)

Was worried our "real" D would show up this half.  [&o]
Looking pretty swiss-cheesy again.

SoMnFan -> RE: Gopher Football (11/13/2010 1:00:52 PM)

Iowa heard me, too .... starting to pound Northwestern.

SoMnFan -> RE: Gopher Football (11/13/2010 1:02:03 PM)

Good Lord.
This season is a nightmare.
Has anything NOT gone wrong, that could?

David Levine -> RE: Gopher Football (11/13/2010 1:06:11 PM)

And just like that... The wheels, they be falling off.

SoMnFan -> RE: Gopher Football (11/13/2010 1:07:24 PM)

Amazing.
Amazingly sad.

Jim Frenette -> RE: Gopher Football (11/13/2010 1:11:04 PM)

They need to throw to the Rb coming out of the backfield more often. Seems like everytime they do they have success

David Levine -> RE: Gopher Football (11/13/2010 1:11:12 PM)

They're not giving up.

Jim Frenette -> RE: Gopher Football (11/13/2010 1:12:23 PM)

McKnight has really become a nice WR for Gophers
