Ainge is making me look smart again.  Hated him and his punk uncle.

Want to see harsh fans?

Posted by gsul2008 05:31 PM, 11/23/2008 the media in this town are a bunch of spineless jellyfish. The fact that they are intimidated by this fat slob with drug addict kids is a riot. He walks all over them like he does a cheesesteak, and they just take it. Absolutely pathetic. The guy is a pig. He doesn't have the discipline to keep his weight under 400lbs, but he expects discipline from his team? No wonder his kids are drug addicts. Look at their role mode.

Lynn G. -> RE: RE:NFL News (11/23/2008 5:17:51 PM)

Uff Da.   That's harsh.

djskillz -> RE: RE:NFL News (11/23/2008 6:16:05 PM)

Ainge sounds like a non-story to me.

Great link on Favre.

And while I don't agree with the Cleveland fan, I do think that they need to use Harrison a lot more.  I really think he could be an average NFL starting RB, and always have.  Which is better than what Jamal Lewis is at this point IMO.  The way the GM handled that is just ridiculous though.

Duane Sampson -> RE: RE:NFL News (11/23/2008 7:04:52 PM)

The Childress era is the only time in 40 years that I haven't felt good after a win.....

Toby Stumbo -> RE: RE:NFL News (11/23/2008 7:06:32 PM)

How can you not feel good after a win?  Are you not a Vikings fan?  -BJ (A hole)

Duane Sampson -> RE: RE:NFL News (11/23/2008 7:13:57 PM)

I feel great! What an awesome win!

Sorry, I was thinking we might have a team to reckon with. What was I thinking? [&:]

Sure, I'm very happy to win, but let's beat the Bears and I'll be very happy no matter how we do it.

Duane Sampson -> RE: RE:NFL News (11/23/2008 7:14:57 PM)

Just give me those two wins every year and I let you guys sort out everything else. [;)]

John Childress -> RE: RE:NFL News (11/23/2008 10:30:28 PM)

Almost a freudian slip by Peyton Manning in the post-game interview.

He was describing another word for guts and then thought better of it and didn't mention it.

Was that word something you put in a female reporter's face in college Peyton?!!!

marty -> RE: RE:NFL News (11/24/2008 6:03:01 AM)

#4 for MVP #4 !!!

I was ridiculed by somebody for saying it last week, but how can it NOT be considered.

Yes, the Jets added some good players in the offseason, but so did many other teams.  The real difference between 4-12 last year and probably 12-4 this year (maybe 13-3 if they run the table, which IS possible with their schedule), is Brett Favre.

After winning IN NE and now soundly beating the Titans IN Tennessee, #4 must be up for consideration for MVP.

djskillz -> RE: RE:NFL News (11/24/2008 9:44:18 AM)

No freaking way.

They added FIVE other ProBowlers this offseason.  No way.

If anyone should be MVP from that team it should be Kris Jenkins or Alan Faneca.  THAT is the reason for their turnaround.

Guest -> RE: RE:NFL News (11/24/2008 9:45:32 AM)

Leading the league in interceptions should be an automatic disqualifier.

Another solid point.

Moss with the trifecta of touchdowns. That guy keeps producing.

A few spectacular catches too.

I thought you were a Bears lover, Marty. Now Favre too? [&o]

I agree with this.

IMO, if Kellen Clemens was starting the Jets would have the same exact record this year.

I'll ask the question......but does he make the New England Patriots a better football team?[&:]

I wouldn't want McNabb here unless our coach was Singletary or someone like that.  McNabb still can throw the ball better than anyone we have on our roster or are likely to have on our roster next year.  He can't run any more but so what.

However, he tends to take a puXXy way out of confrontations many times instead of manning up.  He lost respect in Philly by talking about Owens behind his back while saying nothing to his face.  Now Owens would have knocked him out but people would have had respect for him.  mcNabb is ultra sensitive and still talks about being booed at the draft.  Dude, how many millions have you banked since then?  You guys can throw tomatoes at me for $8M/year!

As for the Eagles, McNabb was only part of the problem.  He catches the heat but the Eagles, back in their good days, got to 4 NFC CGs mostly on the strength of Jim Johnson's defense.  That defense fell apart just as much as McNabb in the big games.

The Rams put up 29 on that D in 2001.  The next year the Bucs put up 27 at the Vet in Philly.

A few years ago, before Culpepper blew out his knee, I did a study that really illustrated the effect of a good scoring defense in the playoffs.  McNabb has never won a playoff game where his defense gives up 20 points (0-4).  He is 7-1 when his defense holds the other team to less than 20 points.

McNabb would be a solid upgrade, but he is no Brady or Montana.

Doesnt get talked about much, but McNabb's gotten flabby.  I watched a great baseball player in Ken Griffey decline like the stock market, because he didn't take care of himself in the off-season.

I think the whole OT thing has been blown out of proportion, but he doesn't strike me as a guy who works out particularly hard in the off-season.

Donovan needs to lose a good 30 lbs...........from what I can tell.

McNabb was NOT overrated.  Getting your team to 4 straight NFC CGs with some of the worst WRs on the planet shows how good he WAS.  People forget that he got them to the Super Bowl in 2004 WITHOUT OWENS.  He smoked us and ATL with Todd Pinkston and Freddie Mitchell starting.  How many QBs can do that?

Three problems happened with McNabb

1. He suffered a few injuries.  They slowed him down and made him a much more tentative player.

2. To combat injuries, he decided to add weight on purpose to take hits better.  McNabb is NOT lazy in the offseason.  That is not true.  Just the opposite - he purposely worked out to ADD weight to get stronger.  The problem is that made him slower than Pat Williams.

3. Andy Reid's failure to build a team around him that could win.

McNabb can be effective again - but he needs the proper surroundings.  Coming here to a running team would really help him.  But he needs a fiery coach who will bring out the competitive McNabb and not the sulking one currently in Philly.

To those who say that he is "done", I give you Kurt Warner.

I don't think McNabb is overrated either.  I don't think he ever been a great thower of the football, and accuracy on certain throws is not great.  However, he finds ways to move the team, and is the master of the screen pass.

I also agree, that Philly has never really surrounded him with real talent at WR or TE.  He's carried that ship at times.

That's why I really like him for this team, we don't do a lot of deep throws, I think he would be really effective in our O.

I'm not big on "Putting on weight" helping an athlete..  His body was used to performing at a certain level, and everyone has a natural weight level.  Puts a tremendous amount of stress on your joints, it really has to be done right.  Robert Smith did it, but he really started when he was in college, and his body had time to adjust, but even he, suffered some injuries early on.

Trekgeekscott -> Thanksgiving games (11/24/2008 12:36:01 PM)

This gem came from Andrew Perloff at SI.

Thanks NFL for your feast of garbage on Thanksgiving Day. Can't wait to see the Lions, Seahawks and Eagles stink up my flat screen on Thursday. How are those teams going to provide a good enough excuse for us to get away from our families?

And I couldn't agree more.  I maintain that the two teams that lost the conference championship games should host the Thanksgiving day game the following year.  Detroit sucks so bad, nobody really wants to watch them.  And it irks me that Dallas gets an automatic prime time nationally televised game every year no matter how good or bad they are.  It's something I've wanted changed for almost 20 years.

Toby Stumbo -> RE: Thanksgiving games (11/24/2008 1:00:22 PM)

Also, having the Lions on will just lead to a health disaster.  Millions will result to more heavy drinking as a result.
