Daunte Culpepper looks at least 30 pounds overweight.  I don't think we will have that much trouble with him.  He was screwed on the call at the goal line though.

No one believes in that team still

Wouldn't it be funny if they, not the Pats, went 19-0?

I don't think that no one believes in them.  I just think that no one believes they're a great team.  And they're not IMO.  No team in the league is right now.

Seriously, our talent is every bit as good as the Titans, but they're 10-0.  I really don't like the NFL right now.

John Childress -> RE: Fines (11/17/2008 9:51:51 AM)

Please, not that crap again.

Our talent is not as good - not even close unless you ignore QB, OL, and LB.

Well, pro scouts would beg to differ with you apparently.

Do you really think the Titans are a "great" team?

I sure don't.  There's not a single "really good" team in the NFL right now IMO.  And I hate it.

McNabb Didn't Know Overtime Rules
Mon Nov 17, 2008

The Trenton Times reports Eagles QB Donovan McNabb looked into the camera with a straight face and said he had no idea Sunday's game was over when his desperation "Hail Mary'' attempt with no time left in overtime was knocked to the ground, forcing the Eagles to settle for a gruesome 13-13 tie against the lowly Cincinnati Bengals at Paul Brown Stadium. PK Shayne Graham missed a 47-yard field goal with seven seconds left on the previous play, a kick that would have given Cincinnati (1-8-1) just its second victory and saddled the Eagles (5-4-1) with one of the most embarrassing losses in franchise history. Just to recap: McNabb, a 10-year veteran of five Pro Bowls, did not know only one overtime is played during the NFL regular season. "I've never been part of a tie,'' McNabb said. "I never knew that was in the rulebook. But it's part of the rules and we have to go with it. I was looking forward to the next opportunity of getting out there and trying to drive to win the game but unfortunately, with the rules, we settled with a tie.'' Seriously? "When the (last) play was called I kind of figured that there are ties in the NFL,'' McNabb, never blinking an eye, continued. "I didn't know that. I guess we're aware of it now.''

What's worse?  Not knowing that or having the tie be against the Bengals.   [&:]

djskillz -> RE: NFL News (11/17/2008 1:15:16 PM)

Not knowing it.

Definitely not knowing it.

Awful.

What? What’s that? The game is over? What do you mean? We tie? There are ties in the NFL? WHAT THE F**K?

THIS IS AN OUTRAGE!

No one told me! I demand such an arcane, obscure rule be written on a very large sign and posted on the door of every NFL locker room. Otherwise, how would anyone ever know? The game just ends? How can that be? THIS HAS NEVER HAPPENED BEFORE IN THE HISTORY OF THE GAME!

Well, I’d certainly hate to find out what the NFL would do if such a scenario were to play out in a playoff game or the Super Bowl. What does the NFL do then? Cancel the rest of the postseason? Declare the season a stalemate?! WE ALL GO HOME?! THAT’S BULLSHIT! I am outraged at my envisioned scenario, Commissioner Goodell! Also, I never saw St. Louis and Carolina play a double overtime sudden death playoff game a few years ago.

I think the people on the NFL Competition Committee have a lot of explaining to do to me and my teammates. Not only did they fail to let us know that the game could end in a tie, but they also conveniently “forgot” to let me know about other apparent NFL rules. For example, did you know the clock doesn’t stop if you get a first down? WHAT THE F**K IS THAT ABOUT?! Dude, there are only two minutes left in the game. I NEED TIME TO GATHER MY THOUGHTS! THE GAME GOES WAY TOO F**KING FAST OTHERWISE!

Did you know that was a rule? Isn’t that just f**king CRAZY?

Also, I have now been informed that incompletions are NOT worth five yards. WHAT THE F**K?! Here I am, badly underthrowing receivers all game long so that we can methodically drive the ball down the field, while the goddamn ref has the gall to come up and tell me that, after each completion, the ball is returned to the original line of scrimmage and no five-yard gain is awarded. DID YOU KNOW THAT?! Jesus. All those incompletions FOR NOTHING!

And since when aren’t touchbacks worth four points?! I bust my ass all game long to get our punter in good enough position to get us a precious, precious touchback. But suddenly booming one into the endzone isn’t worth four? WE SHOULD HAVE WON THAT GAME BY AT LEAST 70 POINTS YESTERDAY!

It’s like I don’t even know this league anymore. I can’t even recognize the game I once loved. The game I played as a child. The game where I get an extra 20 points tacked onto my QB rating if I tell Andy Reid how much I respect him. Call me a purist, but that’s the way I think the game should be played.

And now you’re telling me I have to play some kind of bizarre, no touchback-awarding, no incompletion-awarding tieapalooza?

That’s f**ked up.

I’m sorry. I’m just disgusted right now. I’m going to leave now. I’m going to drive home on the left side of the road, gun it at every red light, drink beer out of my asshole, blow my nose into my shoe, and piss into my neighbor’s Brita filter. Like any rational person who knows the rules of society would.

What's worse is I picked the Bengals and Grahm couldn't make the field goal. I could have looked like a genius![;)]

Okay you weren't talking about me, Not knowing is worse in my opinion. I mean come on, do a little research. It would be one thing if there hadn't been a tie in 20 years, but there was a tie since he has been starting in the league.

Toby Stumbo -> RE: NFL News (11/17/2008 6:29:35 PM)

2002 is when they started having ties again so it's only been 6 years, give the guy a break. [&:]

Fisher is one of the best coaches in the game, IMO, but yes, the Titans are more talented than we are.  Only us Viking fans (some of us) actually think that Birk and McKinnie are above average.  Our linebackers are one dimensional.  Justing Gage would be our best WR.  Bironas is one of the very best Kickers in the game.  We do not have one single special team stud.  And, Collins is not a good QB, but he is 100 times better than Gus.

Having said that, if we had Fisher and Collins instead of Childress and the garbage, experiement QB's,  we'd be coasting to a division title.

John Childress -> RE: Fines (11/17/2008 10:13:52 PM)

Overall the talent gap is not huge, but the QB position is huge.  You can't just say - we are just as talented but for QB.

djskillz -> RE: Fines (11/18/2008 1:03:31 AM)

It's not saying that at all.  And no, not just "us Viking fans" think that we have as much talent.  Pro SCOUTS think we have as much talent.

I do not believe that Collins is much better than Gus.  I believe his system/coach is better.  Heck, even with those, their QBR are very similar.

Their OL is better than ours, but our DL, RB's, and WR's are all better than theirs.

And Bironas is a very good kicker, but so is Longwell.

The difference remains coaching, not talent.

John Childress -> RE: Fines (11/18/2008 7:46:11 AM)

Keep telling yourself that if it makes you feel better.

But the Titans TALENT on defense is much better because they can stop the pass.

The only time we can stop the pass is at home when our guys can utilize the fast turf and loud crowd.  If anything, I would say our talent is OVERestimated because of the Dome effect.

When our defense can put forth a dominant effort ON THE ROAD - then you can start selling me that we are as good as the Titans.

Oh, and let me see Gus, who you say has better WRs and RBs around him, lead his team to wins like Collins has done.

djskillz -> RE: Fines (11/18/2008 8:52:09 AM)

JC, you keep arguing about production.  TALENT IS NOT ABOUT PRODUCTION!

And you know that no one on "this side" of the argument can win, because you know that our coaching is atrocious.  That's the whole point of this discussion!  Our production doesn't match our talent.  THAT is on coaching.

There is zero doubt in my mind that we're an 11 or 12 team win at least with a real coach.

DONALD DRIVER'S FATHER BEATEN BY POLICE

HOUSTON -- The father of Green Bay Packers wide receiver Donald Driver was beaten by Houston, Texas, police officers as they arrested him for outstanding traffic warrants, Driver's family members claimed Wednesday.
As they beat him and forced him to swallow something, the officers told Marvin Driver Jr. he was "going to see Jesus," according to relatives and community activist Quanell Evans, who identified himself as Quanell X.
"Mr. Marvin Driver Jr. is now at Hermann Hospital in ICU where he can't even speak," relatives said in a statement. "Doctors say there is some bleeding on his brain from blunt force trauma."
Police said Driver was arrested for outstanding traffic warrants and was found to be "unresponsive" upon his arrival at jail. Paramedics transported him to the hospital, they said. The Houston Police Department said in a written statement it takes the assault allegations "very seriously, and will begin a thorough investigation into the matter."
The two officers involved remain on duty pending further investigation, police said. However, relatives and Evans called for the officers involved to be suspended or placed on administrative leave until the investigation is complete.
The incident began late Sunday when Driver was dropping his brother, Winston Driver, off after the two had moved furniture, family members said.
Officers stopped Marvin Driver Jr. in front of his mother's home, relatives said. An argument took place between police and Driver's family, as well as between Driver and officers over the language police were using, according to the written statement issued by family members.
Police told relatives Driver was being taken to jail for the outstanding warrants, relatives said. "Later, the family found out he never made it to the jail," the statement said.
Relatives at first alleged Driver was picked up several blocks away by paramedics and that he was lying bloody and unconscious in the street. However, Evans told reporters Wednesday afternoon he had spoken to paramedics, and they had told him they had picked Driver up at the jail, and that he was injured, semiconscious and unresponsive when they arrived.
Houston Fire Department spokesman Omero Longoria told CNN Driver was picked up at a police substation and taken to the hospital. He said he did not know when Driver arrived at the jail or what his condition was when paramedics arrived.
Evans showed reporters paper towels upon which he said Driver had written his account. On them, he said Driver wrote that the police took him behind a Valero gas station and beat him. The officers kneed Driver and elbowed him in the throat, Evans said. They also made him swallow something, he said, telling him he was "going to see Jesus" and made disparaging remarks about his family, including "one particular family member."
One officer parked his cruiser behind the station and watched the beating, the activist alleged. Evans showed reporters photographs he said depicted Driver lying a hospital bed with a tube in his mouth.
One of the officers named in the arrest report is Hispanic and has a history of harassing African-Americans, Evans said. Driver also wrote on the paper towels that he knows the officer who beat him, Evans said. Winston Driver said at the news conference that after his brother dropped him off, he saw flashing lights from the house and went back outside.
"The officer I spoke with, he was real rude," he said. "The guy was out of control, basically." He said he searched for his brother for two days, only to be told he wasn't in the system. "I got totally upset about it," he said. Nothing in the police report indicates Driver was being combative or resisting arrest, Evans said.
"It is a shame how this man was treated. This is a man that was being arrested supposedly for only having traffic warrants, and traffic warrants turned into a severe beating of this magnitude."
He said he had spoken to Donald Driver, but would not divulge details of the conversation, saying only that "he is absolutely concerned about the condition of his father."
Another of Driver's sons, Michael, told reporters, "if we can't trust these people, who can we trust? ... I think that my father was targeted for being black."

"a history of harassing African-Americans".  Who else gets away with this kind of behavior?

The really sad thing is that if he were not related to a professional athlete, we wouldn't even be reading about it.

as if it never even/ever happened/happens....

John Childress -> RE: RE:NFL News (11/19/2008 10:49:15 PM)

For sure

Amazing that in 2008 the Police can still arrest a perfectly healthy man who ends up in the hospital unable to talk by the time they reach the station.

Johnny Gammage, again.

djskillz -> RE: RE:NFL News (11/20/2008 9:13:13 AM)

Pretty awful, for sure.

Lynn G. -> RE: NFL News (11/20/2008 9:58:02 AM)

That story is horrible.   It needs to get lots of press so that those officers, and that department, are dragged through a humiliating, expensive, life altering experience.    I hope the officers' pictures are pasted all over the news and that they are treated like complete pariahs in their community.

John Childress -> McNabb available (11/20/2008 10:32:21 AM)

Read all the comments on the bottom, they are rushing McNabb out of Philly

http://www.philly.com/philly/hp/news_update/20081120_John_Smallwood__McNabb_settles_into_familiar__quot_Woe_is_Donovan_quot__role.html

djskillz -> RE: McNabb available (11/20/2008 11:27:51 AM)

Personally, I don't see a real problem with running McNabb out.  It's time for a change in Philly IMO.  And the choking in big situations would kill me.  That's my biggest fear of him as a Viking.

And I do have a problem with McNabb's accountability.  This incident, not taking any blame for the NFC title games of the past, or the SuperBowl, not taking any blame for T.O. stuff (I don't believe for a second that it was ALL T.O.'s fault), etc.

Lynn G. -> RE: NFL News (11/20/2008 12:30:44 PM)

... and that reminds of something I meant to post the other day.   Why are Viking fans salivating for a guy whose own fan base are counting the days to when he's gone?    If Philly wants him out, tell me again why he's such a great pick-up?
