Good God .... ESPN says they will cover Pac-Man Jones' first CFL game.
Unreal.

Corey Nash -> RE: RE:NFL News (9/1/2009 5:37:38 PM)

Just days after he signed with the Bengals, Andre Smith broke a bone in his foot and will miss several weeks. Bad break for the Bengals.

Report: Jets considering Brandon Marshall trade

Posted by Mike Florio on September 2, 2009 7:47 AM ET

We recently wrote that, based on various rumors we've been hearing, we believe that the Broncos are talking to a small handful of teams regarding a trade for receiver Brandon Marshall.

According to Bob Glauber of Newsday, one of those teams is the New York Jets.

Per Glauber, the Jets are "seriously considering" the possibility of doing a deal for the guy who, one week ago today, was practicing his punting.

And it's no surprise.  G.M. Mike Tannenbaum surely realizes that he narrowly avoided getting the Mangini treatment in January, and Tannenbaum surely is smart enough to realize that another season of unfulfilled expectations could get him a lot closer to the chopping block (but yet not smart enough to avoid Marshall like a hot dog topped off with chili, onions, and swine flu).

With receiver Laveranues Coles gone and not yet replaced (unless Chansi Stuckey is the real deal), the Jets need someone who can help Tannenbaum's prior 2009 big risk -- rookie quarterback Mark Sanchez -- look good by getting open and catching the ball.

So, yeah, it wouldn't be a surprise if the Jets make a move that other teams would likely avoid, given Marshall's various warts and flaws and questions marks.  From Tannenbaum's perspective, Marshall needs to play hard and keep it together only for the coming season.  The Jets can worry about whether Marshall will be a good long-term fit in 2010.

At a minimum, look for the Jets to do something, whether it's a trade with the Eagles, a scan of the Saturday cut list, or, at a minimum, giving Amani Toomer a tire kicking.

Listening to Jaws blast JeMarcus Russell I have to laugh.

I have never heard Jaws say anything positive about a Black QB.

Ever

13 TDs
8 INTs
with that group of characters is a decent first season for Russell

Lynn G. -> RE: RE:NFL News (9/2/2009 9:03:42 AM)

I thought Jaws was a big McNabb fan. ???

Boy the Bronco's are easy. First they let Cuttler force them into a trade, and now Marshall? These players should sit without pay IMHO if they can't follow through with a contract

That organization has become a complete joke since the day they canned Shanahan.

They certainly took the wrong approach.

If they end up trading Marhall...They will look like an organization that if you bitch enough, they will let you go.

I preferred the Bengals approach with Chad Whatshisnamenow.  Basically told him to shut up or sit out...you aint being traded and you aint getting a new contract...deal with it.

Jeff Jesser -> RE: RE:NFL News (9/3/2009 11:52:07 AM)

Anybody watching Hard Knocks this year?  Carson Palmer is actually a damn funny dude.

So.Mn.Fan -> RE: RE:NFL News (9/3/2009 11:53:14 PM)

Wow, these young 30-something head coaches are feeling their oats ... 2 OCs canned 2 weeks before the reg season starts?
There's confidence, and then there's panic.
I guess when you are considered to be a genius like Haley is, then no one could ever call plays for you.

John Childress -> RE: RE:NFL News (9/4/2009 8:28:36 AM)

It shows their arrogance exceeds their track records.  Like them or not, Cutler and Marshall were the best two offensive players on Denver.  So what does boy genius do?  Alienate and/or get rid of them!

STUPID

Let's be clear.  Marshall alienated himself with his contract demands and childlike behavior.  And Cutler wasn't exactly innocent in his departure either (refusing to take or return phone calls of the team's owner).

I agree their young HC has to take a lot of blame for Cutler's departure.  But Marhsall's situation is mostly of his own doing.

John Childress -> RE: RE:NFL News (9/4/2009 8:45:34 AM)

Here is where he screwed up with marshall

Once you trade Cutler and marshall is disgruntled then TRADE HIM.

OR

He could have met with Cutler and straightened things out and built a good team

He screwed up by getting all starry eyed about getting MATT CASSEL.  MATT FREAKIN CASSEL.  HELLO?

Cutler was understandibly dissed...but then greatly overreacted...refused to take calls from the team owner, and wouldn't reconcile...

Marshall's problems began before the Cutler fiasco.  He was wanting to be paid like a top 5 WR (He's not quite THAT talented) and he has a history of being an immature crybaby.  The Cutler situation only made the situation worse.  But if Marshall is as good as he claims or believes himself to be...it shouldn't matter which QB is throwing him the ball...he should dominate.  Cutler's departure isn't that big of a factor here.

John Childress -> RE: RE:NFL News (9/4/2009 9:01:23 AM)

Matt Cassell is the new Scott Michell

When you watched NE play last year, he was really holding them back.  People are fooled by his stats last year but that was all Welker and Moss.  Without them he will struggle.

I see the KC coach also has had tiffs with Bowe as well!

Exactly.

I saw Cassel as another Derek Anderson...he had a decent season, with some good recievers but I doubt he can duplicate it without Moss and Welker to throw to.

Jeff Jesser -> RE: RE:NFL News (9/4/2009 9:47:13 AM)

It's why I was livid when the "lets trade for Cassel" talk erupted on here. [X(]

That guys a bum.

Jeff Jesser -> RE: RE:NFL News (9/4/2009 9:48:00 AM)

And, one thing NOT working in Marshall's favor is guys like CC and Keyshawn saying stuff like "just pay the man and get it over with".  That's gotta be fueling his inflated ego too.

If I were in studio with them, I would immediately counter them with "you reward good play on the field, true, but you don't reward bad behavior off of it.  And paying him more now than the contract HE SIGNED ALREADY would be rewarding bad behavior and setting a really bad precedent.

The kid signed a contract.  He's getting paid MILLIONS to play a game.  He should stop bitching and just play...when the time comes he will be a free agent and if he keeps playing the way he has...he'll get a lot more money.

I'm tired of these players signing big contracts then a year or two later bitching that they aren't getting paid enough.

hrerikl -> RE: RE:NFL News (9/4/2009 1:08:26 PM)

Agreed Scott,
    I question the wisdom of Crabtree's strategy, but he is well within his rights to hold out. He is not under any contract or obligation to be in camp.  Totally different with Marshall.  He come's to work and disrupts what everyone else is doing thinking that he should be able to be paid at what he agreed to to not work and act like he is but if you pay him more then he will act better.

Kevin Jones Lost for Season!
Fri Sep 4, 2009

The National Football Post reports Chicago Bears RB Kevin Jones will miss the entire season after suffering a torn ligament in his left ankle Thursday night at Soldier Field. Jones jumped near the sideline on his seventh carry of the game and came down awkwardly on his left ankle. X-rays were negative but an MRI performed this morning showed the damage. He will require surgery and the rehabilitation process is expected to take eight to 10 months. This means that Forte will now be backed by RB Garrett Wolfe and RB Adrian Peterson.

The Bears made a mistake in the first place signing him. While with the Lions he couldn't keep himself healthy enough to stay on the field

    Tedy Bruschi Joining ESPN
    Tue Sep 8, 2009

    ESPN reports former LB Tedy Bruschi, who enjoyed a long career with the New England Patriots and won three Super Bowl rings, is joining ESPN's stable of NFL analysts. ESPN made the announcement Tuesday, saying Bruschi will provide NFL analysis on ESPNBoston.com, the network's new local sports site, and appear on NFL Live, SportsCenter, ESPN Radio and other ESPN platforms.

John Childress -> RE: RE:NFL News (9/8/2009 7:24:05 PM)

I find the constant rips on Russell amazing and probably racist based.

[image]http://a.espncdn.com/i/teamlogos/nfl/sml/trans/oak.gif[/image] 30 (30) Raiders 5-11-0 Will QB JaMarcus Russell start to quiet critics or give us more fodder? (Kuharsky)

Last year, his first year starting, he had a very good TD/INT ration while playing one of the worst teams in the NFL - one with no talent at WR.  How come he isn't given years of excuses like David Carr was or Alex Smith?

Black QBs get one bad year and then they are toast.
