The consequences argument loses steam with guys like Calipari.

How come no consequences stay with coaches?

Again, if justice isn't applied equally then it is not justice.

Lynn G. -> RE: NFL News (9/15/2010 4:24:02 PM)

It already ISN'T applied equally. The people who are suffering the most are kids who are playing on the current USC team who weren't even there when Bush was getting those extra "favors."

How about justice for them? Bush has never apologized all of these years when confronted with the evidence of his wrongdoing. He has caused huge havoc for the program, and doesn't seem to feel a bit of remorse. I think THE VERY LEAST he can do is return the Heisman, although that doesn't even begin to redeem himself.

I'm very surprised that the sentiment here seems to be that Bush should just be able to get away with what he did with no consequences. And yes, I think the coaches who were aware of what was happening should also face consequences. One of them is now the head coach of the Seahawks and he got away with it.

Guest -> RE: NFL News (9/16/2010 2:38:19 AM)

Just out of curiousity, without looking it up, what did Reggie Bush do???? Those that judge should know, right?

Meanwhile, Pete Carroll skates away to Seattle as the head coach and executive VP of a NFL team.

Justice for all.

Guest -> RE: NFL News (9/16/2010 2:46:00 AM)

"The coaches who were aware"? Make no mistake, they facilitated it. Whatever "IT" is.

thebigo -> RE: NFL News (9/16/2010 7:37:11 AM)

How is the NCAA expected to apply justice to someone they have no jurisdiction over? I suppose they can do something like "they will never be allowed to coach at an NCAA institution again", but whoop-dee-doo.

Haynesworth standing by himself and pouting last night ..... disgraceful.
Deserves to be cut and have the contract voided.

Clayton said that this incident was not true. That meeting was for LBs and DBs only

I read that his heart stopped beating.

Here is a decent article regarding the whole USC thing

The NCAA couldn't do anything about Bush's heisman, that would be up to the Heisman Trust.

John Childress -> RE: NFL News (9/16/2010 9:36:57 AM)

The whole thing is hypocritical because of the uneven justice.

Like Vince Young said, everyone knows Bush is the real winner.

I am tired of fakeass, pretentious officials acting like they believe in doing what is best for the student-athlete.

I don't see the U of Miami giving back any of their national title despite scores of violations. Nebraska - any bets on whether Lawrence Phillips should have been ruled ineligible?

fakes and frauds

Lynn G. -> RE: NFL News (9/16/2010 9:55:28 AM)

John,

Do you think Reggie Bush should have ANY consequence for his part in the violations? If so, what would be a fair punishment?

Jim Frenette -> RE: NFL News (9/16/2010 10:29:08 AM)

On another note, lastest report now is that Bob Sanders might be lost for the year. That guy has made a ton of money for spending most of his career injured

He's currently played in only 48 out of a possible 96 career games. He's only played more than 6 games in a season twice in his career.

Its a shame, he's a REALLY good player, but he's made of glass.

Agree and future HOF if he could stay on the field

Yep.

He'll join a few others that likely were on the way to HOF careers but had them cut short by injuries.  Like Bo Jackson (who had NFL AND MLB HOF careers cut short by injuries).

SoMnFan -> RE: NFL News (9/16/2010 12:04:56 PM)

Revis and Moss going at it in the press this week.
Thats gonna be fun to watch.

Typically I'm the first one to stand up and scream personal responsibility & accountability...but I'm leaning more toward Reggie Bush on this one.  Something just doesn't sit right.

I don't believe his infractions helped him win the heisman, not directly anyway.  Did he win any other national awards during his USC career....just wondering?  Also, is there a statute of limitations on something like this?  It was like 5 years ago, right?  Seems like they need to define some rules on taking back awards.  Lastly, it's not like he killed someone (or two people).  BTW, where is OJ's heisman?

BINGO!!!!

I draw a line between things that help a player on the field and those that don't.

His mom getting a car made him avoid tackles?

How about the NCAA Champion Villanova team where one of their stars admitted being high on cocaine not only during the final 4 but when he met President Reagan?!!!

That was far worse than Bush

I don't know.  GW was a pretty bad president.

That is a good one

John Childress -> RE: NFL News (9/16/2010 2:09:24 PM)

They can come up with a financial value for what he received and he can donate that to charity.

Lynn G. -> RE: NFL News (9/16/2010 2:16:02 PM)

But they didn't. So giving back the Heisman is the route they went. At least we agree that he needed punishment.

As a self-proclaimed USC homer, why aren't you more upset that the current players are the ones who are being punished? They're innocent victims in this.

Lars -> RE: NFL News (9/16/2010 3:20:02 PM)

On the field, off the field, punishment, etc..... it should not even come to that point.

He violated eligibility rules to win the award.  On that basis alone, he should not keep it.

What if Reggie played while his grades left him not eligible to actually play?  What if there was some trickery WRT the number of years he played and he was playing w/o eligibility?

I could go on and on...

People want to bring up OJ.  What OJ did was well after the fact and a crime.  It had nothing to do with his performance on the field or his eligibility to win the award.

On V. Jackson

Cheesehead Craig -> RE: NFL News (9/16/2010 4:09:21 PM)

I think Bush should be forced to not have sex with Kim Kardashian any longer and have to have sex with Snookie instead.

That sounds like a good punishment.

Jeff Jesser -> RE: NFL News (9/16/2010 4:14:46 PM)

I was going to mention that he had to deal with those wack jobs for a while.  That's punishment enough IMO.

John Childress -> RE: NFL News (9/16/2010 6:45:03 PM)

What reggie did....oohh weee

Please, you have much more serious offenders then Bush and nothing happens to them. Let's not pretend he sullied the good honor of the NCAA frauds

Tell you what, they can't touch his Super Bowl ring!

Bruce Johnson -> RE: NFL News (9/16/2010 8:38:43 PM)

The Ravens dared the Jets to throw the ball.  They were missing a starting corner and an All Pro safety.  The result:  6 first downs.  (The Ravens had 6 first downs by penalty!) Sanchez did throw some passes that were dropped, but he's got arguably the best offensive line in football.  I bet that a lot of folks are lowering their grade of him as a young quarterback.

On the other hand, it was just the first game and the Ravens defense is good.  Real good.

John Childress -> RE: NFL News (9/17/2010 6:08:02 AM)

Sanchez looked like Holcomb or Bollinger he was so bad.

I don't think he looked that good.  You're being kind.
