True, but I think any real fan that knows the NFL knows that the Jets offense is getting way too much credit.  That, plus, I would actually put the Ravens as the early SB reps from the AFC.  They are going to be tough to beat unless Flacco has a really bad year.

SoMnFan -> RE: NFL News (9/17/2010 9:45:13 AM)

Exactly what I thought Jeff
The real contenders won that game.
The mouth-flappers looked awful.
I enjoyed the heck out of Hard Knocks this year, but the entire time, you are thinking ... "no way these guys are as good as they think they are" (the Jets)

Jeff Jesser -> RE: NFL News (9/17/2010 9:54:22 AM)

Exactly man.  I loved that show too but couldn't wait for them to lose.  [:D]

Ravens were my AFC prediction from the start.

Ray Lewis looked young!  The Jets defense is great.  They gave up six first downs by penalty or otherwise they could have won that game.  Those were two great defenses and I enjoyed the game.

Kristin Cavallari: Bears QB Jay Cutler's Girlfriend in Sexy New Shoot

Who can forget the storied relationship Kristin had with another strong-armed stallion, Matt Leinart?

Back when Leinart was good and held elite status in social circles, it wasn't hard to imagine the relationship working out. It didn't, officially ending in 2006 before allegedly sparking up again.

Are wedding bells in the future for the newest quarterback-reality star couple?

Let's not get ahead of ourselves here..

Leon Adams BARKLEY TOOK MONEY: "College athletes are multi-million dollar commodities. They deserve to be paid well. NCAA earns as much money as every other professional sports league, but they have the luxury of not having to pay their sources of labor with anything more than a scholarship. The system is racist, since most of the people making money from this system are white and those being exploited are predominantly black."

Lynn G. -> RE: NFL News (9/18/2010 5:47:18 PM)

"They deserve to be paid well."

Hey Barkley - have you noticed that those college athletes are getting a FREE education for no other reason than that they can put on pads and hit someone? THAT is the same as getting paid.

Try to convince students that are there for a degree and have to pay their own way, usually borrowing money to pay their tuition that athletes should be paid IN ADDITION to a free ride. Go sit down.

John Childress -> RE: NFL News (9/19/2010 7:06:32 AM)

The top athletes make so many times more for their school than the cost of their education it is not even funny.

How many schools make sure their athletes graduate.

They are exploited, plain and simple. Good for them when they get some money back

Oh, and countless athletes are doing what Bush did.

No consistency

Not much worse than fake, sanctimonius frauds

The NCAA is a bastion of hypocrisy

Lynn G. -> RE: NFL News (9/19/2010 8:43:34 AM)

What I'm saying is that a free education IS being paid well. It's like paying an 18 year old $30,000 a year to play football. That's good money.

John Childress -> RE: NFL News (9/19/2010 8:56:57 AM)

It is not good money when he is literally making millions for the school.

For a marginal athlete, sure. For a Bush, Barkley, etc type athlete it is not great money.

More importantly, the school is not doing it out of the kindness of their hearts or for the benefit of the student. If it was, then they would get serious about graduating their athletes since very few every make it to the pros.

I was a Financial Director at Temple University. The amount of money the sports teams made was counted on in the budget. That was always a high priority in the budget discussions - and I sat in on every meeting as a director. No time was ever spent on how many were graduating. The only time that was ever even looked at was when the media made an issue out of it.

Our football team played Penn State every year. We NEVER had a shot to be within 4 TDs of Penn State. It was an annual slaughter. But we played them every year because it was $2M in guaranteed revenue!

That is criminal. You are setting up young men to get beat up so the school can make money. And I am supposed to cry over Reggie Bush' mom getting a nicer house out of the hood?

OH THE TRAVESTY

No way

Not me.

These kids deserve to get all they can. If they can get their mom a nicer house out of the deal then I am happy for them.

I just wish someone was there teaching them Financial Literacy and ensuring their graduation.

Reggie has a few credits left to finish his degree and some forces at USC want to stop that! Fpn hypocrites!

John Childress -> RE: NFL News (9/19/2010 8:58:00 AM)

People all upset about Bush' mom getting a house from an agent but strangely silent on far more aggregious violations of public trust comitted by corporate America every day.

Extrapolate that into the business world. The people doing the day to day work that keeps a Fortune 500 company in business make a pittance compared to the CEO who makes a hundred million dollars. I'm not convinced that the "work" he does is worth that much more than the people who work under him.

You keep looking for "justice" to even out. That doesn't usually happen in the real world. Reggie Bush got a very small slap on the hand compared to what others suffered for his transgressions. Yes, other programs have cheated. Other players have cheated. Not everyone gets caught and not everyone gets punished. That doesn't change the FACT that Reggie Bush violated rules and got caught and had to pay.

You don't let one bank robber go just because others didn't get caught, do you? That would make an interesting defense.

Lynn G. -> RE: NFL News (9/19/2010 9:06:25 AM)

I would think that a self-professed USC homer would actually be arguing the OPPOSITE side. That Reggie Bush is the bad guy and that his actions have caused HUGE problems for your favorite football program.

Who has been quiet about that? My goodness, there have been pages and pages of discussion about that in the politics threads.

John Childress -> RE: NFL News (9/20/2010 6:36:19 AM)

So fun watching the Pats lose. All that talk about they would shut up the Jets....NOT!

Belichick without Weiss and Romeo looks like an average coach and Brady has been nothing special since his injury

Lastly, has Brady ever heard of a barber! LMAO

Defensive Players of the Week

Clay Matthews Jr., LB, Green Bay. A second consecutive three-sack game stamps Matthews as the premier defensive player in the league over the first two weeks. Not only that, but Matthews had two additional quarterback hits and another tackle for loss in the Pack's 34-7 rout of the Bills at Lambeau Field.

Not looking forward to playing GB

marty -> RE: NFL News (9/20/2010 8:29:34 AM)

The gameplan should be to block and chip Matthews ALL DAY, and then run ALL DAY around him!

Matthews hits hard, and is not afraid to go below the knees on a hit. I'm not sure that Favre makes it through the season healthy facing Matthews and Peppers twice each.

Jeff Jesser -> RE: NFL News (9/20/2010 9:36:31 AM)

Don't worry.  Mckinney never gives up sacks or something like that.  [&:]

SoMnFan -> RE: NFL News (9/21/2010 11:47:22 AM)

Reggie Bush has a fractured fibula.
Won't end hi sseason. 4-6 weeks. Could tell last night he had a serious issue.

Braylon Edwards picks up a DWI. Hire a driver, dipstick.

David Levine -> RE: NFL News (9/21/2010 5:11:23 PM)

Looks like Reid has changed his mind and is naming Vick the starter.

John Childress -> RE: NFL News (9/21/2010 6:15:06 PM)

Locker room revolt

The 51 other players saw Kolb out there looking scared while Vick was handling business

What further convinved Reid was the plays Vick was making IN the pocket

marty -> RE: NFL News (9/21/2010 9:31:52 PM)

Thankfully, the Packers moved Matthews away from McKinnie's side.

Maybe Loadholt can be alert to Matthews, and gets help from TEs ? Or better, the OC figures out ways to run at Matthews and to frustrate him ?

John Childress -> RE: NFL News (9/21/2010 10:45:37 PM)

Clay comes from all angles and all holes.

All of our guys will get a taste
