Moss with Rice's work effort
Sharpe without injuring himself

Yeah, the greatest comes from several things: talent, work ethic, luck/fortune

Todd M -> NFL News (6/29/2011 11:40:35 AM)

It was 28 years ago today that Chiefs running back Joe Delaney died while trying to save three drowning children. In Delaney and Pope, the Chiefs have had a couple of real heroes.

Early this month Pope saved a boy from drowning, and that experience has inspired him to make water safety an emphasis of his charitable foundation.

Pope hasn’t sought attention for his heroic action and wasn’t quoted in the first round of stories about the boy he saved, but he is now using his platform to talk about the importance of learning to swim.

-----------------------

IDK, maybe I've become too cynical but one, the Delaney story is a story of a hero who sacrificed his life in a heroic act. Jumping into a deep pit, not knowing how to swim to try and save 3 children.

Pope, who knows how to swim jumped into a pool at a pool party and got a kid out.

Give the guy a cookie for doing a good job but he isn't a "hero".

Some great characters went into the Hall today.
Loved the speeches.
Some great stuff.

Incredible how many players the Eagles signed but still are millions under the cap

Crazy. And they can afford to redo Vick and Jackson's deal without hurting themselves this year. And they appear in good shape for the future.

John Childress -> RE: RE:NFL News (8/9/2011 11:12:52 AM)

All those years of being cheap and smart have paid off.

Remember how the Eagles are the NFL equivalent of Logan's Run!

Everyone over 30 is jettisoned!

No old guys making tons of money

Let's hope they were wrong about McNabb still being able to play

They're the Menudo of the NFL!

David Levine -> RE: RE:NFL News (8/11/2011 4:50:44 PM)

And now they steal Steve Smith from the Giants.

John Childress -> RE: RE:NFL News (8/11/2011 6:05:01 PM)

Reminds me of the Celtics in the 80s

That right there is a coup. Great signing.

All time

1. Rice
2. Moss
3. Owens
4. Carter
5. Sharpe (even with his shortened career due to injury)

What is your top 5?

Rice
Carter
Owens
Moss
Swann

To me any receiver can be "great" if they get to play with a HOF QB. Marvin Harrison probably makes my top 10 list, but he played with Peyton Manning his whole career. Owens played with Young, Moss played with Brady, Carter played with nobodies.

Bradshaw is a HOF QB only because he was on the Steelers. Swann was simply amazing for his era.

Lynn G. -> RE: NFL News (8/11/2011 7:58:56 PM)

Is anyone else watching the Sewhawks preseason game tonight? I've peeked in a couple of times and have seen Tarvaris Jackson looking fairly flummoxed. I haven't seen Sidney Rice yet on the few glances I've taken.

Sidney Rice will sit out Thursday's preseason opener against the Chargers with a "dinged" shoulder.

Lynn G. -> RE: NFL News (8/11/2011 9:19:46 PM)

Ah - I hadn't read that.

I for one, am shocked.

So much for the Iron Man tag.

Looked famliar, didn't it?

Lynn G. -> RE: NFL News (8/12/2011 9:51:04 AM)

It did look familiar. As it turned out I only watched the one series so I don't know how it went after that, but he looked pretty much the way we experienced him. He ran for one short first down, and he ran around in the backfield on a couple of other snaps looking for an open receiver, and he got sacked. I totally get that it's preseason and it's a new team, but he does have the same OC, so theoretically he shouldn't have much to learn.

Of the other preseason games I didn't watch any of them.

I don't agree completely

Sterling Sharpe was on his way to the HOF even with Don Majikowski as QB

Tons of WRs were mediocre even with Brady except Moss and Welker

John Childress -> Myth of Sam Bradford (8/15/2011 9:09:13 AM)

ST. LOUIS: No quarterback threw deep less than Sam Bradford last season -- 6.8 percent of his 590 throws went longer than 20 yards. I knew Bradford was, relatively, a dink-and-dunker last year with no wideout he trusted downfield, but that number is a stark one.

No wonder why he looked so "good"

They guy is tossing 10 yard passes all day

John Childress -> The Unknown QB (8/16/2011 8:13:04 AM)

Wish we had drafted him:

Josh Freeman put together a fantastic sophomore year in the NFL with 3,451 passing yards and 25 touchdowns, along with a 95.9 quarterback rating.
On top of the numbers, he also made a trip to his first Pro Bowl.
However, he was able to show something much more valuable in 2010.
He is one of only three quarterbacks in NFL history to have seven fourth-quarter comebacks in his first two seasons.
Being a clutch player capable of leading a team to victory from behind is not something that can be taught, so the Buccaneers have a quarterback who possesses a very rare talent.

John Childress -> RE: The Unknown QB (8/16/2011 8:14:03 AM)

No way do I rate Matt Ryan over Vick and Big Ben!

How many coaches will Alex Smith kill?

  • 49ers' Harbaugh: Smith separating in QB battle
    Really Harbaugh?  Get serious

    • He's not going to kill Harbaugh...He's going to give Harbaugh a really good shot at landing Luck.

      In the long run...Smith may be the best thing that happens to the 49ers since Jerry Rice!
