Mario had his biggest game when his team needed him to. THAT was clutch. In a league where rookies tend to hit a wall their 2nd season, Mario simply crashed through it like it wasn't there. Like JC said though, still a long way to go to see who of the big 3 from the draft is the best. However, Mario is positioned the best to run away with that title right now.
It is a long haul in the NFL. Remember when people were touting Rick Mirer after his rookie year? Only a few players, like a Peterson, let you know immediately how good they are. Of course the big concern with him will be injuries and not talent.

djskillz -> RE:NFL News (12/14/2007 9:06:21 PM)

I think Mario HAS let it be known already how good he is though. I really like Young too, and think he still might develop into a star. But RIGHT NOW, Mario is killing it. And it still is clearly the right move to take him over Young as long as Schaub continues to perform.

djskillz -> RE: RE:NFL News (12/17/2007 3:28:22 PM)

Just a random thought, but did anyone else have this thought?

So the Cowboys are bad offensively/seem unfocused, etc. on Sunday.  This after a week in which Atlanta's head coaching job becomes open.  Jason Garrett being the leading (and most obvious) choice.

Anyone else think that maybe, just maybe, this wasn't just a coincidence?  That perhaps some of Garrett's "research" time might have been devoted to researching another job/city, than the Cowboys' opponent?

OK, that's just Dustin's conspiracy theory of the week.

Trekgeekscott -> RE: RE:NFL News (12/17/2007 3:32:19 PM)

It is an interesting theory...but totally full of crap.

Quite simply, Garrett could write his own ticket right now by just concentrating on getting the Boys to the SB.  They do and someone will hire him.  The Cowboys problems were all rooted in the fact that Tony Romo hurt his thumb on his throwing hand.

Guest -> RE: RE:NFL News (12/17/2007 3:36:28 PM)

Romo played awful before he hurt his thumb.

Trekgeekscott -> RE: RE:NFL News (12/17/2007 3:38:40 PM)

Just goes to show you that what really makes that offense go is Tony Romo...
Perhaps people shouldn't rush to hire Garrett just yet?

djskillz -> RE: RE:NFL News (12/17/2007 3:46:54 PM)

Eh, I think Garrett is very good.

I think he does a good job of masking a lot of Romo's flaws, actually.

Trekgeekscott -> RE: RE:NFL News (12/17/2007 3:49:28 PM)

That may be true, but perhaps he shouldn't be thinking about taking a job for a team that is totally effed up in upper management right now.  That team is looking bad.

Oh, and how about Shaun Hill?  3rd string afterthought most of the year...now he has pundits talking about challenging Alex Smith for the starting job next year?  Plus he may have QB'd the Patriots down a pick on Saturday.  Keep it up Shaun!

djskillz -> RE: RE:NFL News (12/17/2007 3:58:52 PM)

HAHA, ya, pretty crazy on Hill.

And Scott, you might be right on Atlanta, but I think he has some good things there too.

I really think Blank is a good owner who tries his best.
McKay is a good GM overall I think.
They have a top pick this year to get a real QB he can develop.
They have building blocks on defense, especially in the secondary and on that DL (Abraham/Anderson).
And they have a nice young running back in Norwood.

It's not that bad of a situation I don't think.  And really, I'm not sure there's going to be a lot of great situations out there.  I guess the other ones would be Cincy/Carolina/Baltimore probably.

But really, Cincy is the only one of those that's as good for an offensive coach.  And they have MAJOR personality issues there.

Will be interesting to be sure.

Mr. Ed -> RE: RE:NFL News (12/19/2007 9:06:40 AM)

Rich McKay needs to be looking over his shoulder.

Looks like Bill Parcells is joining the ATL front office:

http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2007/football/nfl/12/19/bc.fbn.falcons.parcells.ap/index.html

Bill Parcells could become the Atlanta Falcons' vice president of football operations, a role that would put him in charge of finding the team's next coach.

Toby Stumbo -> RE: RE:NFL News (12/19/2007 9:08:07 AM)

Interesting, the Falcons might actually become a good team.  [sm=moe.gif]

T.O. Has Message for Jessica Simpson
Wed Dec 19, 2007

The Dallas Morning News reports the Cowboys are off Friday, but don't expect to find Cowboys WR Terrell Owens checking out Blonde Ambition during its opening day in Texas theaters. He's not joking when he says that Jessica Simpson is screwing up QB Tony Romo's focus. "Right now, Jessica Simpson is not a fan favorite in this locker room or in Texas Stadium," T.O. said. "I think with everything that has happened, and obviously the way Tony played and the comparison between her and Carrie Underwood, I think a lot of people feel like she's probably taking his focus away. "Other than that, she was at the top of my list until last week." Romo didn't make his usual Wednesday appearance in the locker room, so we didn't have a chance to get his reply to T.O.'s concern about Ms. Simpson. And T.O. isn't done dealing with her, either. "I've got a message for her when we make the playoffs," T.O. said. "Just stay tuned."

Mr. Ed -> RE: RE:NFL News (12/19/2007 1:27:26 PM)

Ty Carter replaces Mr. Guarantee in PITT:

http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=3161277

With their secondary suddenly susceptible to the long ball, the Pittsburgh Steelers have demoted starting free safety Anthony Smith, the second-year veteran who guaranteed a victory over the New England Patriots two weeks ago.

Eight-year veteran Tyrone Carter will move into the starting lineup for Thursday night's game at St. Louis, where the Steelers hope to end a two-game losing streak and secure at least an AFC wild card playoff berth.

Did he really ask Aikmen "do you wonder it must be like to the be the starting QB of the Dallas Cowboys"?

hahaha.  nice catch.

man she is hot.

this is way overblown though.  bill simmons was talking about this on his podcast the other day.  apparently she's been at a couple other games too.  she just didn't sit in the box so the tv cameras couldn't find her/pay attention to her as much.

plus he mentioned that you could probably just tell her that you had a complete pass if you had an interception, so it's not like she's putting pressure on you.  :)

really a stupid story if you ask me.

i'm not sure about that toby.  i really think parcells might have been done about 5 years ago.

and i always thought he was overrated to begin with, personally.

he never won anything without BB.

Lynn G. -> RE: RE:NFL News (12/19/2007 4:23:28 PM)

And now the update is that Parcells turned down the Falcons because he's considering the same position with Miami.

Jim Frenette -> RE: RE:NFL News (12/20/2007 11:22:27 AM)

In todays paper, they is a mention that a couple of US Senators have written the NFL and said they would look into the the Anti-trust if they didn't start making the games on NFL Network available to more people.

Good. They are trying to force the public to cry foul at the cable companies so they can make millions more then they already are.

djskillz -> RE: RE:NFL News (12/20/2007 3:57:17 PM)

Seriously, our congressman have nothing better to do than worry about the NFL and MLB?

I hate this, I really do.

Why bother trying to write bills that his stubbornness King George will only veto?

Troy Smith will start for the Ravens vs Seattle.

I never minded Troy Smith.  If he was 2 inches taller, he'd be a 1st rd pick.

He beats the Ravens other options, that's for sure.

I hope he has a breakout game.  I want Seattle to lose!
