I maybe don't want to see him in the NFL either, but should they ban him?

Honestly, if they ban Vick while leaving guys like Leonard Little in the NFL, I would be sick to my stomach. That would just be insane, to me.

They never proved that Rose ever bet AGAINST his own team. He did admit to bettingĀ ON them to win. Could have been worse than betting your own money on your own team to win.

I gave up on baseball after the last player strike anyhow.

Still messes with the integrity of the game. Maybe you risk injury by going to a relief pitcher that really needs an extra day off or something of the ilk. A lot of damage can be done trying "too hard" to win a single game - especially in a sport with so many games that losses don't kill you like in the NFL.

Totally agree on the Leonard Little situation and I wonder if we'll ever get anyone from the NFL to give a reason for why he is allowed to play football.

I haven't made up my mind yet on whether Vick should be banned or not. I can see arguments from both sides, which means I'm riding the fence. I guess I want to see what kind of man he is once he completes his prison sentence, although we will always have to wonder if we are seeing the man, or the face he is putting on for the media.

Jeff Jesser -> RE: Mike Vick case (5/6/2009 1:47:29 PM)

Vick shouldn't be banned IMO based on the history of folks like Little.  IMO, the NFL set that precedence a while ago.  Vick has served the time that he was suppose to and it pains me to say that.  I'm a very big animal person and the whole situation infuriates me.  I think he should have gotten a much more sever punishment but I don't get to make that call.  I have/had to live with what the system gave him.  He's done that now so he should be allowed to play.

That being said.   A team would have to be stupid to bring him in.  It'll create a bigtime s-Storm with PETA and animal people and who wants that distraction?

Easy E -> RE: Mike Vick case (5/6/2009 1:55:01 PM)

Bad Childress is one of the few coaches that has talked about the possibility of bringing him in. [X(]

Doesn't surprise me.  His code of ethics goes about as far as a dime in Japan these days.

Vick probably would have gotten a much more severe punishment had it not been for the fact that he plea bargained what he got.

That being said...the court system determined how long he would need to serve for punishment and he is doing that now.  So, as a society we have to accept that he has served his debt to society and let it go at that.

As for the vikings willingness to bring him in...only as a kick returner, slash type guy...he was never a particulary good QB.  A fantasitc athlete to be sure...but not good at his chosen position.

It's hard for me to maintain my Vick should be banned for life feelings when I respect your opinion on this so much Jesser.

Damn, why couldn't they just have been harsher on Little and his ilk. [>:]

John Childress -> RE: Mike Vick case (5/9/2009 8:00:52 AM)

Good points by all.  No matter how long you think Vick should have been imprisoned, it is almost impossible to make a case that he should be banned for life as long as Leonard Little is in the NFL.

So it's true what they say about your reading comprehension.

No, it is true about your intelligence.  The point being debated was that the NFL letting Little in was justification that Vick should be let back in.

Your not wanting either does not address that point and is yet another in a long series of your worthless posts.  Now I see why you post so many empty posts - you lack the necessary ability to hold an intelligent conversation.

Perhaps one day you will progress beyond your double digit IQ and 6th grade ways - but I won't be there to see it.

Life is too short to waste another minute reading your garbage.

I'm speechless.

Tony Dungy: Michael Vick Wants Second Chance
Wed May 13, 2009

AP reports former Indianapolis Colts HC Tony Dungy says QB Michael Vick wants a second chance when he's out of prison. Dungy met with Vick last week at the federal penitentiary in Leavenworth, Kan., where Vick is serving a 23-month sentence for bankrolling a dogfighting conspiracy. Dungy spoke Wednesday at a workshop in Indianapolis for offenders seeking jobs. He compared Vick's situation as he nears his release from prison to theirs. Dungy didn't discuss details of his visit with Vick but told The Associated Press that the former Atlanta Falcons quarterback made a mistake. "I think Michael is just like so many other guys that I have seen, so many other people who are nameless, faceless in that environment," Dungy said. "It's a young man that made a mistake and is looking for a chance to recover and move forward. That's where he is and that's where so many of the men who are here today are." Vick is to be transferred May 21 to home confinement in Hampton, Va., which is scheduled to last through July.

Of course he wants a second chance. Duh.

Truth & Rumors reports a rumor that the Buffalo Bills would take Michael Vick if reinstated.  I first considered the idea of Vick throwing to TO and figured that it would last 3-4 games tops.  Vick would not throw to TO and opt to run instead and TO would lose it.    But it sure would be entertaining.

ESPN looks at Mike Vick's impact on dogfighting

Posted by Mike Florio on July 19, 2009 9:28 AM ET

As quarterback Mike Vick prepares to remove a certain piece of jewelry within the next day or so, ESPN's Outside The Lines has taken an in-depth look at the impact of the Vick case on dogfighting.

"It devastated the business," a professional "dog man" known as Victor Lopez told Mark Schwartz of ESPN.  "We got sentenced right along with [Vick]."

Still, Lopez thinks that, just like Vick, dogfighting is back on the rise.  He said that prices for pit bull puppies have increased in recent months, after dropping from the range of $10,000 to $15,000 to a more modest high/low of $1,500 to $3,000.

And so the Humane Society of the United States plans to use Vick to get through to the next generation of dogfighters.  HSUS president Wayne Pacelle told Schwartz that Vick claims he got involved in dogfighting at the age of eight, that he and other kids would do it, and that no one told them it was wrong.

Thus, Vick will be used to tell other eight-year-old kids that it's wrong, while there's still time to get through to them before they become desensitized to the consequences of dogfighting to the dogs.

"Our goal is simple," Pacelle said.  "End dogfighting in America.  And I thought we could get much farther down the field by engaging with him then by endlessly flogging him."

We agree with that approach.  But we think that much of Vick's impact will depend on his message.  If he says only that people shouldn't fight dogs because he lost his football career and many, many millions of dollars due to dogfighting, members of his audience might shrug and say to themselves, "I don't have a football career or many, many millions of dollars to lose, so that doesn't apply to me."

The better message would be to get the kids to understand not that dogfighting is illegal, but that it's barbaric and reprehensible and something lower than criminal.

To sell that to a room full of kids who are far more perceptive and insightful than they realize, Vick will need to be truly genuine in both his remorse and transformation -- the same qualities for which NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell will be searching when he meets with Vick in connection with his coming reinstatement effort.

But to have any lasting impact, Vick also needs to continue to have a high profile, so that kids will listen to what he has to say.

To have that high profile, Vick needs to get back into the NFL.  And so it all comes back to whether Vick can persuade Goodell that Vick knows what he did was not just wrong but a monstrosity.  If Vick can sell that to Goodell, then Vick can sell it to the kids who are in a position to be drawn to dogfighting.

Some good came as result of the Michael Vick case.  He has payed his price to society.  Actually, he payed a lot.  Now, I am wishing the best for him and his life and I hope all of this can be put behind him.
