Hi gang,
It's been a long time since I posted here.  I figured I would at least drop by and say Happy New Years to you all.
 
Not such a good season this year for my Packers.  Lots of ups and downs and a lot of close games.  There's enough blame to go around with the whole team:  The offense, defense, special teams and coaching all cost us a game or 6 this season.  Rodgers did a great job this season and looks to be the long term answer at QB.  Hopefully we'll get a new DC this offseason and keep our key guys healthy next season on D.

Hi Craig!   Nice to see you back here.

For what it's worth - I believe the Packers were 100% correct in their decision to go with Aaron Rodgers as the starter.   He has tremendous potential and I agree with you that he's the long term answer.  

I hope to see more of you, and I'll try really hard not to be too sassy.  [image]http://talkvikes.gorge.net/image/s2.gif[/image] The offseason is actually a fun time on this board because it's all about hope and speculation.

Missing the camps and coming into the season hurt really set him back.  He did a much better job in the last 4 games of the season I thought.  He was more decisive and had more explosion once his hammy healed up and still put up very solid numbers.  He'll have a better season next year as rumor is MM said the ZBS is getting more scrapped and we may be going with more of a power running game as the OL just aren't getting the ZBS system and the OL that are showing any promise would do far better with the power game.
 
Definately will be an interesting camp though as Jackson showed flashes of being a solid backup and fan favorite Kregg Lumpkin will be back after a year on IR.  Lumpkin has a lot of speed and showed a real knack for finding the hole in preseason.  Many were high on him until he got hurt.  We'll see though.  Heck, maybe Wynn will actually do some offseason workouts and come into camp in decent shape for once and surpise us all.

I thought that Grant was worth signing but I agree that he needed that camp time. Collins is a stud to build around in the secondary. Way better off starting the Rodgers era now.

I think the Packers are probably better off in the long run going with Rodgers this year, but it MIGHT have been a step backwards this year.  I'm afraid Rodgers could have a GREAT year next year with that WR factory, power running game, and throwing Wynn in there once in a while.

OTOH, it is also promising to know the Packers will have a QB that up until this year was known to be injury prone, and showed this year to be a slow starter and NOT to be clutch in the 4th quarter.  I hope to see a repeat next year, the coach gets fired, followed by a 3-13 rebuilding year the following season [;)][:D]

Rodgers isn't signed beyond next year IIRC.  If they had waited past this year to start Rodgers...they would probably have been starting from scratch following next season.

Dom Capers comes to Green Bay as the new Def Coord (would that make him DC squared?) and with him he's bringing a 3-4 defense.  I hope he has as similar of success as our DC as he did with Pitts and Jax as their DC.  I don't think we have the best personnel to run this yet but we'll see what FA and the draft brings.  As always I'm hopeful that he can make it work.

My point of view is that when something seems to stagnate, it can't hurt to mix things up and bring in fresh blood and a fresh angle.

What are your biggest wishes for free agency?

The 3-4 of that lineage scares me accept for you have one end and the rest suck outside of 2linebacker if everyone healthy.

My point is that I think AD can run against you, I think Dom is just a scary good choice and it makes me mad. Cause I want the pack to suck.

Peppers.  He wants to play in a 3-4 scheme.  We won't get him, but you did ask what I wished for.
 
I also want us to draft DT Raji but that won't happen either.

AD can run against anyone, so I'll agree with you on that.  This is just like how the Packers drafted 3 CBs after you guys got Moss.  With Forte and AD in the division, we need to do something to counter them.
 
Kampman is moving to OLB apparently.  The DE situation is sketchy and a lot is apparently riding on Jenkins coming back healthy.  Montgomery showed some flashes of real good play but I'm not sold on him yet. 
 
I wouldn't be surprised at all if our top 3 picks are either DL or LB.

Chiming in on the Packers draft.
 
It really all comes down to their 2 first rounders, Raji and Matthews.
 
Raji looks to have all the tools (and size) to be a very good NT.  He was one of the more highly touted players in the draft and for us to get him at #9 was really a blessing.  Outstanding pick.  Grade: A
 
Matthews fills our need at OLB for the new 3-4.  He can play the run, pass and rush the passer all very well.  What I have seen of him is that he seems to kick in another gear when he sees that he can make a play.  The most impressive thing about him though was that he walked on to the premier college program in the country at USC, and became a starter and a standout player.  That's something to write home about.  Grade: A
 
TT had been drafting for depth for the last 4 seasons by trading down.  This year we needed impact players and we got them big time, so I don't mind that we "overpaid" for Matthews using some value chart.  Would 3 other lesser quality players have helped us as much as Matthews will?  I highly doubt it.  We've got plenty of "solid guys" and projects already.  This draft was about getting some impact players.
 
You know damn well that Dom Capers had TT's ear this draft and I'm sure that Capers was dancing on draft day. 
 
The Packers just became a much better team after yesterday. [:D]

You have every right to be upbeat.
Couple very good players.
Clay will be a NFL lifer, when you carry that name, its inevitable. He's solid. Rajis an animal.
Two very good choices, imo.

I agree Craig great draft, I just am not sure how Kampman fits in.

I think he is not an End in the 3-4 and I don't see him playing standing up. So maybe we just could ship a 7th rounder over to ya for him, so you know you could have something to show for switching defenses and eliminating what was your best defender...[:'(]
