It $ucks that the Packers get 2 byes (Lions, minus QB and WR) and Cleveland before Vikes, and a bye aftwards with TB.

In the meantime the Vikes had to play the Ravens coming off 2 losses, a nasty physical team that knocked out the Vikes best CB, and hurt Peterson and Harvin.  Had the Packers had the Ravens this last week, they might well be 3-3 with a nice knockout punch.  Then follow that up with a game at Pittsburgh.

I think the Vikes are going to be spent after losing to Pittsburgh, and will NOT have enough to beat GB at Lambau.  I think GB will REALLY be up for the game, their season on the line, while the Vikes will be thinking about their good start, even 6-2 is allright, and getting some rest on the bye.

Thankfully the Bears lost yesterday.  But I think it's going to be a tight 3 way race to the finish this year.

Tim Cady -> RE: RE:The Packers (10/19/2009 12:23:01 PM)

I think that that Cleveland will be a challenge for Green Bay. I will go as far as to predict that GB will lose salivating for the Vikings.

Unless we come out of Pittsburgh with injuries, I don't think Green Bay stands a chance against us in Lambeau. They can't run and we can, I hope the weather is miserable.

Be careful what you wish for Tim. Our QB has had some trouble playing in cold weather recently.

Tim Cady -> RE: RE:The Packers (10/19/2009 1:46:44 PM)

Yeah, but I don't think our runningback will.

marty -> RE: RE:The Packers (10/19/2009 1:51:29 PM)

GB will NOT lose to Cleveland.  Cleveland is starting a QB who only looked accurate when he had Braylon Edwards and Kellen Winslow Jr., just had to throw it in their radius and they caught it.  It will be another, probably lopsided win for GB.

GB ran the ball better on the Vikes, than the Vikes did on GB, and that game was in Minnesota, the next one is in Lambau.  I think Peterson is playing, but hurting with a bad back.  Add to that the injury he sustained against Baltimore, he probably can't wait for the bye.  Then he'll probably take a pounding with Pittsburgh all geared up to knock off our 6-0 team.  It's not looking good for the game at Lambau.

The schedule makers did the Vikings NO favors.

I think there is a 90% chance the Vikes lose at Pittsburgh, and a 60% chance they lose at Lambau.

OTOH, this is the time of year where last year Favre played like a maniac and went and beat both the undefeated Titans and the high scoring Patriots on the road.  So maybe he can do the same this year, rock the Steeler and Packer 2ndaries, make it easier so Peterson, Allen and others aren't so exhausted and banged up by the bye.

marty -> RE: RE:The Packers (10/19/2009 2:52:08 PM)

McCarthy, the idiot, was playing Charles Woodson on returns again, even after Tramon Williams had a 45 yard punt return.

I don't wish for players to get hurt, but won't be too upset should Woodson once again get hurt while doing a return.

I think you watch so much Green Bay football that you over rate them. Ryan Grant did not run well against us. I truly believe we made better adjustments against them in the 2nd half than they did. This will improve imo from game one to game two.

AD did what we needed him to do as GB sold out to stop the run. They are not a good team, just because they played us close at the dome, says more about it being a divisional rival than it says about their ability.

If GB was coming off a bye the week before us like they did every year for a while, I would agree that the schedule makers didn't help us. They play Detroit and Cleveland before us, just like we did before we played them the first time, They are still games you have to play and get dinged up in.

Tim Cady -> RE: RE:The Packers (10/19/2009 3:47:09 PM)

Oh yeah, one more thing a week ago I would have said that Cleveland has a better chance of beating Green Bay in week 7 than Oakland has of beating Philadelphia in week 6.

Never say Never. Green Bay is ripe for a trap game. Cleveland's defense shows up some times and DA might complete a couple long ones to MM.

A bye, then Detroit and Cleveland, that's like THREE byes.

They play Detroit and Cleveland before us, just like we did before we played them the first time,

Yeah, and WHO won that game ?  The team that played Detroit and Cleveland before it.  Who'll probably win the next meeting: the team that plays Detroit and Cleveland before it, NOT the team that played the Ravens and Steelers.

I wish the Vikes had gotten Chicago early in the year when Cutler was not used to his WRs.  The 1st game, AT HOME, would have been a nice gift.  It was a nice gift for the Pack.

marty -> RE: RE:The Packers (10/19/2009 4:34:55 PM)

Certain teams bang you up more.  The Falcons beat the Bears, but lost Brian Williams for the season in the process.

The Bears are a hard hitting, agressive team, that even if you beat, you may lose some players, or have some badly injured for the next week.  The Packers got a little banged up from the Bears, and that helped the Vikes beat the Packers a few games later.

IF you're team can blow out a team, like the Browns or Lions, you'll probably come out of the game pretty healthy.  IF you're in close games, players try a little too hard trying to make something happen, and get hurt - AP and Harvin.  The Ravens also knocked out the Vikes #1 CB.

Having the Steelers next is NOT going to help things, it is just going to HELP the Pack, as the Vikes are softened up for them.  The Vikes will just be mercilessly looking forward to the bye.  I think the Vikes will probably lose to BOTH the Steelers and the Pack.

Ron W -> RE: RE:The Packers (10/20/2009 11:59:26 PM)

I live near the Minnesota - Wisconsin border and I get better reception on the Wisconsin radio stations than I do on the Minnesota stations so I listened to the Packer Post game show. It was hard to tell from the comments of the listeners that the Packers had won. All people could talk about was the stupid penalties. There is a good deal of anxiety over in Packerland.

marty -> RE: RE:The Packers (10/21/2009 8:26:03 AM)

All the penalties COULD be the sign of poor coaching, players that aren't focussed (Clifton's penalties I could see, his timing might be off), or the refs might have been trying help Detroit backups hang in there to cover the 14 1/2 point spread.

They shut out a division opponent.  And they're bitching.  Gotta love Packer fans.

Lynn G. -> RE: The Packers (10/21/2009 9:30:17 AM)

Isn't that pretty much what a bunch of people here do? We're 6-0 and there are some people who only want to rip the team on the negatives.

Lynn, we haven't shut anybody out.  When we were winning big against St Louis, Cleveland and Detroit, this place was a ghost town.  We may be 6-0, but we damn near lost to SF and Baltimore.  Baltimore was a near collapse of epic proportions..there are plenty of things to criticize in that win.

Conversely, the Packers won 26-0 against a division opponent, who, though bad, still plays pretty tough against division opponents.  Anytime you shut out another team, you've done very well.  and yet...they are critical about penalties.

John Childress -> RE: The Packers (10/21/2009 12:34:26 PM)

The Vikings have lots of stuff to work on.

We have seen 6-0 twice before and neither resulted in a SB

We are wiser now

We want to discuss things that might stop them from going to the SB

Fool me once....

Tim Cady -> RE: The Packers (10/22/2009 10:50:08 AM)

I am anxious as well, I do feel we have been lucky, especially last week, our have overcome the clock genius that is Childress. With that said, every good team has luck. You know the old saying the harder you work the luckier you get, sometimes that holds true for talent as well as work ethic.

With that said, I am not afraid of this Pittsburgh team, even with Troy P, versus when the Bears beat them, we are the more punch in the mouth of the two teams. The secondary is a concern, but I think that if they are able to have a contingency for Winfield this week versus basically being caught with our pants down when AW and Sapp went down. We will not be as leaking back there.

I expect big things from AD. I think it is time we play our best game of the season. Even

marty -> RE: The Packers (10/22/2009 11:00:35 AM)

AD has a bad back, and now an ankle injury.  Favre is going to have to win this one.

This is the best defense the Vikes have seen, and it is on the road.  AND, the Steelers will not take the Vikes lightly, and would probably love to beat an undefeated team.  AND, a win will remind people that the Steelers are still the Champs.

I think the Saints COULD get upset in Miami (Miami coming off a bye like the Saints were last week when they demolished the Giants).  Maimi will get have get up early, and run the clock with their run game.

The Saints would have demolished the Gints whether they were coming off the bye or not.  The Gints played NOBODY up to that point and the Saints can throw on anyone.  add to that the Saints d has improved and you have team that will be tough to beat.

I don't think Miami has much of a chance at all.  but that's when trap games happen.

I was am thinking Miami has a chance in this one as well. It makes no sense. I actually felt better about it, before marty brought it up.[;)]

Cheesehead Craig -> RE: The Packers (10/26/2009 9:29:04 AM)

Packers demolish the Brownies 31-3

Amazing what an offense can do when it shows it's committed to the run vs just giving it lip service and when they have good pass protection.  Granted, it was a feel good game vs a really bad team but a great performance nevertheless.

Rodgers did a great job making plays with his feet also.  He didn't just stand there and hope someone got open, he took off when he saw no one available and ran to the open field in front of him.  Great to see some short slant plays again.

Finally got to see Quinn Johnson out there at FB and he was very good.  His run blocking can be dominating and he did a great job in his limited action.

AJ Hawk had his best game of the season with a bunch of tackles including 2 TFL.  He has to keep playing with a chip on his shoulder given all the talk about his number of plays lately.

Woodson and Harris had blanket coverage all day.

Clay Matthews is going to be an All-Pro LB.  He is fast and just has great football instincts.

Like I said before, it was a feel good game against a bad team.  But it was something the OL and D needed to get some confidence.  No let down the week before the Viking game.  Pretty happy at 4-2 at this point.

John Childress -> RE: The Packers (10/26/2009 9:37:36 AM)

Your season boils down to this week.  You can't get swept by the Vikings and have a good shot at the division.

Wins over Cleveland shouldn't even count! :-)

Do you feel confident in a win?

Yeah.  They looked good the last two weeks when they beat Detroit and Cleveland coming off a bye.    Wow...are they impressive.

Here come the Favre led Vikings coming off a loss.  And Favre will not be intimidated by playing in Lamblow.

John Childress -> RE: The Packers (10/26/2009 10:35:36 AM)

I was talking to Craig!
