Obviously this is premature, but you have to wonder if Rodgers will now be more and more prone to concussions as the medical evidence about concussions seems to indicate. You would think it would affect his play as he would be advised (by his coaches and common sense) to curtail his freewheeling it down the field to guard against future recurrences.

That's my biggest fear right now.  I worry that his career will be shortened due to them or end up like a Morneau situation where his next concussion takes him out for the season.  He's an outstanding QB and to have to replace him with someone of the same ability would be very difficult.

You Packers fans have been spoiled for nearly two decades now wrt the QB situation.

In that same time the Vikings have literally had dozens.

John Childress -> RE: The Packers (12/16/2010 3:15:21 PM)

I like Rodgers a lot.

This is a shame.

I put some of the blame on the HCMIC for not taking RB seriously. Poo poo Marshawn Lynch but you have to run the ball with someone.

Reid is going to get Vick killed similarly if he doesn't start running McCoy 20 times per game - especially this week

Cheesehead Craig -> RE: The Packers (12/18/2010 1:32:07 PM)

I won't be posting for a while, tomorrow we leave on an 8 day trip to FL (Disney, SeaWorld, etc) and the kids don't know about it. Gonna be great to see their reactions when we tell them.

Have a Merry Christmas everyone!

John Childress -> RE: The Packers (12/18/2010 2:16:41 PM)

Merry Christmas Craig!

Be safe on the trip and hopefully when you get back the Packers are playing for the division last week of the season.

IF the Vikings can somehow upset the Bears Monday night then you probably get that shot even with a loss to the Pats as long as you take care of the Giants at home.

Funny how both the Packers and Bears host NY teams week 15 (16 of the schedule)

The Path for the Packers (assuming a loss against NE)

beat Giants
beat Bears

Bears lose to Vikings
Bears lose to Packers

If the Bears beat the Vikings then the Packers somehow have to win out because a tie would go to the Bears based on division record

Or you could hope the Giants or Eagles lose out

John Childress -> RE: RE:The Packers (12/19/2010 9:16:06 PM)

Did the Packers really let an offensive lineman run the kickoff back 65 yards?

WTF was MM thinking of with a squib kick anyway?

marty -> RE: RE:The Packers (12/20/2010 8:16:13 AM)

Regardless of whether or not there was a 'sway', WHEN you play somebody is very important.

I think if the Packers had played in NE 2 weeks ago with Aaron Rodgers at QB, the Packers would have LOST by 3 TDs. IF they had played them 2 MONTHS ago, I think the Packers probably would have WON the game.

It helped that NE had won so many in a row, and was probably overlooking GB, along with the help GB got from the officials. I think Detroit might have gone in and made a close game with Stanton, if they had played NE this week. Having said that, I still think Flynn is a decent QB who just needs experience. Flynn beat out Brohm, has looked good in preseason games, and looked good last night.

Mike McCarthy is doing a fine job. I think the Packers have a great chance of beating the Giants at home.

marty -> RE: RE:The Packers (12/20/2010 8:24:54 AM)

The Packers had another good day of playcalling, bad execution at the end, but the Packers put up a lot of points on NE.

Should Frazier not work out, I think the Vikes should consider Packer OC Joe Philbin for HC next year. Philbin is innovative, hard to predict, attacks his opponents well, has a lot of different sets and formations, and COULD get the Vikings' offense scoring some points.

If the Packers win out (Giants, Bears at home), they're in. If the Giants win out (at Packers, at Redskins), they're in. But Green Bay likely has to win two to make it, because beating the Giants and losing to Chicago can be trumped by the Giants simply splitting.

Aaron Rodgers is back for the Packers after suffering a concussion. It will be interesting to see how Mike McCarthy uses him. Against the Atlanta Falcons last month, McCarthy spread the field with five receivers and gave Rodgers the option to run when his early reads were covered. According to ESPN Stats & Information, the Packers have used four or more receivers 134 times, third most in the league. But Rodgers doesn't slide a lot and is vulnerable to hits that could lead to another concussion. Will the Packers be more cautious and keep in extra blockers to protect Rodgers?

John Childress -> RE: RE:The Packers (12/26/2010 9:42:21 AM)

Rodgers has to change the way he plays. He can't hold the ball so long and he has to slide feet first.

If he doesn't do those two things, his career will be short.

Guest -> RE: RE:The Packers (12/27/2010 9:27:13 AM)

I am a Bears and Giants fan this weekend!  I am loving that Packer fans have already punched their ticket for two consecutive weeks of playing the Bears.

I want the Bears playing for that #2 seed so that this game has meaning for them!  I want everything to fall into place....Giants win, Tampa Bay win Green Bay needing a win to get in.....24-24 game with 7 seconds left and Chicago's Robbie Gould hitting a crushing 38 yard field goal as time expires to crush the hopes and dreams of Packer fans around the world!

John Childress -> RE: RE:The Packers (12/27/2010 12:21:04 PM)

Green Bay is the potential wild-card team that exited Week 16 with the biggest dose of momentum heading into January. The Packers in essence started their playoff run Sunday with a 45-17 destruction of the Giants at Lambeau, and they now hold the key head-to-head tiebreaker with New York. Green Bay still must beat Chicago at home next week to clinch a berth, but the Bears have already locked up the NFC North and won't have as much to play for as the Packers.

Green Bay has a hot quarterback in Aaron Rodgers, and a defense that's starting to come together. The Packers picked off Eli Manning four times and forced six New York turnovers on Sunday. And facing Rodgers will make any playoff opponent nervous. Coming back from his second concussion of the season, Rodgers threw for 404 yards and four touchdowns against New York, with Green Bay amassing 515 yards of total offense. The Packers scored in every quarter and buried the Giants 24-3 after halftime.

If the Packers put a whipping on the Bears next week at home, they'll go into the playoffs without being intimidated at all by the thought of playing in Chicago for the second time this season. The Packers have already won at Philadelphia, and at the Jets this season, and their strong performance at New England last week also gives them confidence that they can handle the wild-card route.

We've got one more week for the regular-season storylines to unfold, but I've already got the feeling that this year's wild-card teams won't be easy outs. And that hunch starts with what I see from Green Bay, but could include three other strong wild-card qualifiers as well.

Cheesehead Craig -> RE: RE:The Packers (12/27/2010 4:35:08 PM)

Back from FL and it was great to get away from the snow and cold for a week.

Packers - 27  Patriots - 31
Tough loss for the Packers.  The defense played very well holding the NE juggernaut to 17 pts (a pick 6 and a ridiculous KO return to the 4 gets a pass).  Flynn played very well given he had a week to work with the starters.  If the Packers were going to run Kuhn 2 straight times at the goal line, don't do it on the FB dive.  Give him a chance.

Packers 45 - Giants 17
Just a beatdown.  Rodgers showed he's all the way back from the concussion in a must win game.  The OL did a good job against a superior DL in the Giants.  The Packers D continued their stellar play with showing how overrated Eli Manning is.  They did a solid job against the Giants run game and created a ton of turnovers.  Great to see a complete game from this team.  The calls for Kuhn from the crowd whenever they got inside the 10 were classic.  Glad to see his efforts rewarded with a 3 TD game.

One game to go to make the playoffs and it's great it's with their biggest rival in the Bears.  People can poo-poo how lucky the Bears have been this season, but winning 11 games is no small feat and isn't just luck.  Cutler has played good lately and the Bears D is healthy and thus playing well also.  What scares me the most is the Bears special teams.  Hester has found his groove and our special teams is terrible.

John Childress -> RE: RE:The Packers (12/27/2010 4:39:10 PM)

Hester is back to his 1st 2 years form!

marty -> RE: RE:The Packers (12/27/2010 9:03:57 PM)

The Bears need to believe that the WORST thing that can happen is having to play the Packers 2 weeks in a row.

The Bears need to approach the game like it is a playoff game, be of the mindset that the ONLY way they are going anywhere in the playoffs, is by beating GB THIS week.

The Bears need to be physical and win the turnover battle. Even if the Bears don't win the game, they need to smack the Packers good, and make them realize that IF they are going to meet again the next week, the Bears will NOT be an easy out.

John Childress -> RE: RE:The Packers (12/27/2010 9:12:56 PM)

If the Bears beat the Packers they probably get Eagles or Giants in 2 weeks

Cheesehead Craig -> RE: RE:The Packers (12/30/2010 11:43:45 AM)

Hell of an NFC QB status when Rodgers doesn't make the Pro Bowl.

Brees
Vick
Webb??

Who's the 3rd?

And yet, Rodgers beats him in every indidual stat except he has 1 more int.

Stat wise, it should probably edge to Rodgers, so I'm assuming its a case of taking the guy from the #1 team vs the guy who needs to win to be a Wild Card.

Probably not fair, but team success always plays a role in Pro Bowl selections.

Lynn G. -> RE: The Packers (12/30/2010 2:08:30 PM)

Maybe voters are just grossed out by the pelvic thrust move that Rodgers makes after a touchdown. Eeeuuuwww.

Todd M -> RE: The Packers (12/30/2010 2:36:46 PM)

I gave Chris Johnson a little Wah wah for his pro bowl exclusion but I have another in my for Rodgers.

Wah wah...

No playoff wins and one pro bowl nod as the 3rd starter. Yeah, there's the guy who would instantly be the Vikings 2nd best QB ever. [&:]

marty -> RE: The Packers (1/2/2011 4:13:59 PM)

Chicago on offense, 2nd down from the 2 yard line, GB gets away with an obvious hold in the endzone that even the announcers notice. Chicago ends up settling for a FG. What's new ?
