However, if USC gets into the Rose Bowl and faces a Big Ten program, it is going to be an embarrassing day for the Big Ten.

They could be facing the 4th best team in the B10

Mich
OSU
Wisc
PSU

You pick. I'll take USC in a rout over any of them.

Mich would absolutely roll USC.

PSU or WISC would be a good game but both are offensively challenged

Bill Jandro -> RE: College Football (Future Vikings!) (11/28/2016 8:17:35 PM)

USC is playing well and I think they would beat PSU

Wisc has a very good defense and would be a pick em type game.

PSU is a mirage

Bill Jandro -> RE: College Football (Future Vikings!) (11/28/2016 8:18:52 PM)

Mich might ne the best team in the country if they didn't shoot themselves in the foot. They should have beat OSU easily.

They would match up best with Bama.

bohumm -> RE: College Football (Future Vikings!) (11/28/2016 9:32:00 PM)

I went to the USC-UCLA game a couple of weeks ago. I've lived 2.5 miles from the Rose Bowl for 19 years and hadn't been to a college game there (I did go to a high school game there years ago) . USC looks very solid, but they'll be highly ranked going into next year.

After Alabama, I see at least 11 teams that could beat one-another on any given weekend.

The biggest fraud has to be Penn State. They had one good Saturday against Ohio State, and played a bunch of bums outside of that game. The next biggest fraud is Wisconsin. The Gophers had them over a barrel until Mitch Leidner showed up in the 4th quarter. What a sham that those two teams are playing for the Big Ten championship. They should cancel the event.

Nebraska ranked #16 going into last week? Haven't beaten a team with a pulse all season. Sagarin has them ranked #34.

That's the problem, they have no quarterback. Michigan would need to score at least 28 to beat USC.

No quarterback, no chance. The Trojans would beat them by three touchdowns. If the Gophers can hang with them for three quarters, the Trojans would kick their ass right now.

Yeah the kid from San Clemente high school is a baller.

Not sure the last time SC had a young QB this good.

This kid Darnold looks better than any quarterback in the country right now.

Scoring 28 wouldn't be a problem against a Pac10 defense.

The Mich defense is what would be the difference

They won't be playing so no need to speculate

Lets call it what it is, the Pac-12.
Out West we don't add extra teams and call us by a name no one outside of our region cares about.

Steve Lentz -> RE: College Football (Future Vikings!) (11/29/2016 9:34:39 PM)

No Big 10 Championship, but Ohio State still sitting pretty.

Hopefully we get an answer to this riddle in the Rose Bowl. I miss the old tradition of the two conference champions meeting to end all the talk.

Most Rose Bowl Wins:
USC 24
Michigan 8
Washington, Stanford & Ohio State 7

Most Rose Bowl Losses:
Michigan 12

Big Ten fans are always yapping, but rarely does the Maze and Blue deliver the results. It's the same ole story line...'yea, but we play defense and the Pac 12 doesn't".

From 1948-1998 (pre-BCS nonsense), the Big Ten only scored 28-or-more points 12 times in 50 attempts. Michigan scored 28-or-more, three times in 16 attempts. The clown they have under center this season isn't going to change that stat for the better. They are woeful, offensively, which is why they finished third in their own division.

Living on reputation. If you can't win your own division, you shouldn't be allowed to play for any championships in football. The Big Ten/14 apparently has better standards than the NCAA, which tells me the NCAA Football Playoffs is a money grab. A legitimate tournament would feature at least 16 teams, and not have four weeks before the first game is played.

The entire thing is a complete sham. I wish they would go back to the old format of just having bowl games.

Yeah, crucial hire.
I questioned Helfrich all along, just seemed to make some bonehead calls, not build his own culture, and be too easy on the players.
Talked to Jeremy Bloom about him earlier this year and he said at CU they all loved playing for Helf, but I think he is Assistant Material and not Head Coach Material. Good Cop needs a Bad Cop.

One thing for certain is that you'll see a new culture in Eugene and I think that's a good thing.

I'd like to see a tougher team with more grit and spit and fewer costumes.

SoMnFan -> RE: College Football (Future Vikings!) (11/30/2016 1:46:21 PM)

Great stuff Murf
Can see some of that from the outside
Feel fortunate your school doesn't reward mediocrity

SoMnFan -> RE: College Football (Future Vikings!) (11/30/2016 1:47:14 PM)

Great points about coaches, too ...
I could write a book on the difference between assistant and head, coaching.
In fact I'm working on it. [:D]

SoMnFan -> RE: College Football (Future Vikings!) (11/30/2016 1:48:15 PM)

Anyone know much about the new Buffs coach?
Used to love Colorado, while overlooking the whole bible-thumping thing.
Glad to see them return to relevancy.

SoMnFan -> RE: College Football (Future Vikings!) (11/30/2016 1:59:22 PM)

PJ Fleck thoughts Murf?

A bit over the top for me, but if it works than it works and it seems to.
I would prefer Dan Mullen from Miss State, and his DC, Peter Sirmon, ex Duck LBer, and great recruiter.

I'd be good with Fleck as well.

The name that scares me is Greg Schiano.

Bleh.

I know one thing, i'm exploring better Season Ticket locations with an estimated 10,000 not renewing this year.
The "other side" of Autzen Stadium has shade, a cover, more restrooms/concessions, is closer, and has a club level lounge.

Glad they're on the rise.
Colorado and Utah have been great additions to the Pac-12.
I'd like to see a Texas school add and one other at some point.

SoMnFan -> RE: College Football (Future Vikings!) (11/30/2016 2:17:19 PM)

Good luck man.
On the hire and the tickets.
