sheesh, Badgers falling apart

I just hate seeing the same old $EC love...

I should hope for Wisconsin to lose...helps Nebraska...

but somehow I guess I hope for my conference to look good nationally
[>:]

Fukc the Badgers. Helps the Huskers and the Gophers.

It's not SEC Love, it's a deeper SEC team with better athletes at almost every position.

I'm just happy to see Wisconsin play a non conference game against a team better than me and some neighborhood kids.

JT2 -> RE: College Football (Future Vikings!) (8/31/2014 12:19:39 AM)

Too early for a Heisman watch? A healthy Gurley could run away with it. Probably the best pure RB in the country, good hands and not too shabby as a KR. What can't he do?
198 rushing, against a pretty darn good defense. 100 yard kick return TD. Somehow he only had 4 first half carries.

Now, if he just got more comfortable putting the ball in his left arm, when running left, I wouldn't have anything to criticize about his game. He's a beast.

The best part was when he slowed at the 5 during his KR and the guy caught him right at the goal line. He just shook him off like he was a fly. [&:]

They've got about six of them. Don't expect to see the green helmets much. I like the smoke helmets the best.

Jeff Jesser -> RE: College Football (Future Vikings!) (9/2/2014 2:01:07 PM)

They were hideous. Need to stick with the originals. They are classic.

McMurfy -> RE: College Football (Future Vikings!) (9/2/2014 2:59:38 PM)

Trying to keep up with Oregon.
And remember, before you hate on Oregon, Oregon was the Gophers prior to 1988, minus the titles from the '40's.

Over the past ten years they have done pretty well for themselves.

djskillz -> RE: College Football (Future Vikings!) (9/2/2014 3:02:53 PM)

Well, it helps to have Phil Knight in the alum crew, Murf. [:D]

Baseball still astounds me.

Don't have a team.
Oregon State has success and wins a couple CWS
Phil Knight: "We should get a team. Let's build a ridiculous stadium and hire one of the best coaches in the country."
2-3 years later; one of the best

Crazy.

Its funny because its true...

John Childress -> RE: College Football (Future Vikings!) (9/2/2014 6:18:53 PM)

FSU really looked bad week 1

Will this serve as a wakeup call for them or will they, being the #1 target, struggle most of the year and lose?

I think they will play a lot better this week. First games are tough for most teams. They will bounce back.

Two things to add though,
1. They used to have a team, up until around 1981, and the lack of a baseball team had hurt them a few times in football recruiting for two sport guys.
2. Knight shelled out big donor bucks to keep Pat Casey at OSU.
Just as he shelled out a lot of money to OSU in the past, as well as his two alma maters, Oregon and Stanford.

Now, that being said, the new baseball stadium is pretty nice.

Gordon III for Wisc is an absolute beast.

Are we insinuating that money plays a major role in most successful programs?

djskillz -> RE: College Football (Future Vikings!) (9/4/2014 2:10:52 PM)

I knew about the previous baseball years, Murf. Did not know that Knight also supported OSU/Stanford. Hmm.

From this

http://bluebook.state.or.us/notable/notknight.htm

Knight donated $105 million to the Stanford Graduate School of Business in 2006, the largest donation to a business school in history to that date. He also provided financial assistance to his high school alma mater Cleveland High School in Portland for their new track, football field, and gymnasium. Knight and his wife, Penny, donated $100 million to the OHSU Cancer Institute in Portland in 2008 and gave $5 million to Willamette University in 2009. A prominent booster of University of Oregon sports, Knight's donations over the years have paid for many state of the art athletic facilities at the university.

from this

http://www.oregonlive.com/beavers/index.ssf/2014/05/pat_casey_dared_to_dream_and_n.html

Pat casey did this

He dared to call a meeting with Nike founder, and University of Oregon alum Phil Knight to ask for funding. He not only got the meeting, he got the money, helping spike an upgrade in facilities that now rank among the conference's best.

John Childress -> RE: College Football (Future Vikings!) (9/5/2014 6:42:14 AM)

They will never let this man rest. He was fully investigated and cleared. Now they are going to bring this up again - during football season.

They wait 2 years to investigate? Really?

Anyone got any hot picks this weekend?

I really, really like MSU to cover against Oregon, and ND to cover against Michigan.

The jerseys are different, but snazzy.. I'm not a huge fan of the helmet.

Aside from the clock numbers, which aren't awful, just not close to traditional, the color scheme and design is very nice.

They're perfectly cromulent - for the Arena League....

We just have different tastes in stuff, I guess. Some guys like suits with cuffs in the pants, some don't.
