I have seen 3 Oakland games and Carr does NOT look like a stud QB

Saying you are the best of a weak class is not the same as saying he looks like Luck or Wilson

David Levine -> RE: College Football (Future Vikings!) (11/18/2014 9:25:44 PM)

Yeah. At this point no one looks like a sure-fire QBOTF.

Miss St wont stay ahead of TCU.. TCU won on the road; Miss St didn't.

Alabama might jump TCU. In fact, I expect it (and have no issues with it).

Apology accepted.....

I'm quite surprised. Tip of the cap to you for sure.

None of them do, but I'm a big fan of speeding up the process. Let 'em throw it. Let 'em shine, learn or burn.

At least Carr is getting a lot of attempts. He will get better because of it or they will find out he is not the guy.

We need to stop trying to create game managers.

djskillz -> RE: College Football (Future Vikings!) (11/19/2014 10:45:07 AM)

As Cowherd said, MSU is 3rd in the Las Vegas rankings (Alabama is #1). You know, where actual money is being spent and asses are on the line. And there are 8 SEC teams in their top 25. So I guess Vegas is in on the CON-spiracy as well...

Why you hiding out in here Dustin?
Come in the other room and roll up your sleeves.

I love Teddy, but take the gloves off (Well I didn't actually mean take the gloves off) [:D]

I agree, I'm as concerned about being wrong about Turner contributing anything positive, as it am about Teddy.

Really I still have a lot of faith that Teddy will eventually blossom, but your right Pete, let the kid throw now that we are pretty much eliminated. If he doesn't progress then we know we have to bring someone else in for competition for him.

El Duderino -> RE: College Football (Future Vikings!) (11/21/2014 9:30:59 AM)

Drink blood! Smoke crack!
Worship Satan! GO MAC!!!!

Fine, Macalester has next to no chance of winning. But 9-1 is th best season I've ever seen them have. Kudos to coach Jennison for a job VERY well done.

I recall hearing these exact same comments and recommendations for Ponder. As it turned out Ponder simply wasn't capable of doing it. Although he did have a stretch as a rookie (SF game) that he actually looked like he could play.

I don't know if the coaching was and currently is the problem with regards to the qb position. Your totally right that Turner needs to let Teddy sling the ball around and take his lumps. Holmgren did it with Farve and Indy did it with Luck.

In summary being Norval is not the qb guru people claim and could be the problem. Or, Teddy is PonderII

McMurfy -> RE: College Football (Future Vikings!) (11/21/2014 8:42:13 PM)

Since recruiting often cmes up, I thought I'd add the
4 year Recruiting class ranking average for the 8 teams still in it.
Per Scout.com

Doesn't really show the SEC superiority we are told.
As I always say, yes Alabama is very good, the rest not so much.

ALABAMA 3.5
OHIO STATE 3.75
FLORIDA STATE 9.75
OREGON 16.75
MISSISSIPPI 26.5
MISS STATE 30.5
BAYLOR 32.75
TCU 35.75

McMurfy -> RE: College Football (Future Vikings!) (11/22/2014 2:27:56 AM)

Meanwhile,
In the SEC,
Here are some of this weekends opponents

Charleston Southern
Samford
South Alabama
Eastern Kentucky
Western Carolina
Vanderbilt (oh wait...)

Jeff Jesser -> RE: College Football (Future Vikings!) (11/22/2014 8:13:14 AM)

It's the bye week man.  What else would you expect before the Iron Bowl?  [&o]

Happens every year and it's CFB's dirty little secret.  It's never brought up in the media.

bohumm -> RE: College Football (Future Vikings!) (11/22/2014 11:21:25 AM)

College football at that level is all about money. Those are like preseason games that season ticket holders are forced to buy in pro sports. Ugly, but all the kids are doing it (unless they end up losing to the Dakotas.....). They also generally play a tougher in-conference schedule than any other conference most years, though you don't really know in any given year until it's over and you get some chance to assess conferences with bowl match-ups.

All that said, the abject hatred of the SEC in here is pretty weird. I guess it's no different than all the other conspiracies about the NFL being against the Vikings, coastal bias, etc. But year over year, the SEC is much better top to bottom than any other conference, and it's really not that close. And I say that as someone who lived in Alabama/the South for a minute and saw all the SEC psychosis up close. While that's weird, the lengths that otherwise sane people go to diss the SEC in here is even weirder.

Jeff Jesser -> RE: College Football (Future Vikings!) (11/22/2014 11:27:28 AM)

Really?  You don't think it's complete and utter shit that teams like Alabama play teams like Western Carolina while the rest of the country is in the heart of thier conference play?  Like I mentioned a week or 2 ago, it's an extra bye week that never gets spoken about.

It's basically thier dirty little secret.  Play a cupcake before the Iron bowl to rest your starters.  I just think that's BS.  I don't deny the SEC is the best conference year in and out.  That's not my point of contention.

The lengths?
A few discussions, a few cut and pastes, none of which can be disputed, is considered extreme lengths?
Ok then.
Maybe you just need to work harder.

I guess I don't see it as a secret. I heard it talked about on ESPN this morning and it's a known thing year to year. And again, if you have to play more good teams in conference, it basically evens out. And it seems all the teams in all the conferences have plenty of bye weeks throughout the season that they can schedule however they want. I don't see it as a big deal, I guess.

The same discussions come up year after year, and every year wounded fans from the Pac 12, the Big Ten (12 teams), Big 12 (10 teams), ACC, etc, bitch about it, and almost every year they end up being the best conference by most subjective and objective measures. So maybe it's the shrillness of the kvetching and not the lengths; I apologize for the miswording.

The South has a long and storied history of thinking that one group of Southerners is superior to other Southerners or Northeners. Just like in the war between the states, their ignorance will eventually be their undoing.

How's that Top 5 Ole Miss team doing today?

Jeff Jesser -> RE: College Football (Future Vikings!) (11/22/2014 5:44:36 PM)

FSU hangs on for dear life yet again.

Steve Lentz -> RE: College Football (Future Vikings!) (11/22/2014 6:20:25 PM)

Gordon's one game rushing record was broken this week! WOW.
