Really?  You don't think it's complete and utter shit that teams like Alabama play teams like Western Carolina while the rest of the country is in the heart of thier conference play?  Like I mentioned a week or 2 ago, it's an extra bye week that never gets spoken about.

It's basically thier dirty little secret.  Play a cupcake before the Iron bowl to rest your starters.  I just think that's BS.  I don't deny the SEC is the best conference year in and out.  That's not my point of contention.

This is exactly the point I have been making for five years. Football is a game of attrition. While their starters were sitting for 1.5 quarters on Saturday the rest of the teams in the mix were having to play D1 football competition. All that stuff adds up over time.

Bradley H -> RE: College Football (Future Vikings!) (11/23/2014 11:27:19 AM)

Been watching the Gophers for 45 years and this is the most exciting season I can ever remember. Despite a shitty quarterback they are still in the mix and playing for something important in week 12.

Jeff Jesser -> RE: College Football (Future Vikings!) (11/23/2014 4:00:26 PM)

Leidner was pedestrian (at best) at the start but his running was a big key to that win.  He had a much better 2nd half.  That ball he dropped in to Maye was a thing of beauty.

I've never actually seen anyone try and defend that.  All you get from SEC ppl are things like:

"well, we have the best conference every year"
"we beat up our own teams in the conference"  - but no other conference does that [&o]

Never a peep about the secret little bye week they get every year.  Nobody even acknowledges it.

McMurfy -> RE: College Football (Future Vikings!) (11/23/2014 4:20:55 PM)

Think about this Jeff

SEC plays 8 conference games and 4 non-conference games.

Pac-12 plays 9 conference games and 3 non-conference games.

In those extra non-conference games, SEC is generally 14-0.

In the extra conference games, Pac-12 is ALWAYS 6-6.

That has huge National and Bowl Game implications

Throw that extra game into November while the other conferences are limping to the finish line against teams that can actually beat them, and then you have a huge advantage.

Hope that was shrill and Kvetchy enough for bohomm and the I never gave a BigO to her

bohumm -> RE: College Football (Future Vikings!) (11/23/2014 4:36:43 PM)

Certainly kvetchy enough, though not quite as shrill with the numbers

drew -> RE: College Football (Future Vikings!) (11/24/2014 8:04:59 AM)

There were some big missed opportunities by TCU and OSU the past couple of weeks. Winning close against Kansas and Indiana is not a good look for either of those teams, and I think they may have lost some of their upward momentum with the committee. I think things are setting up well for Baylor right now, because beating KState will be a quality win (an assumption, I know) and it sounds like the committee is placing a pretty high importance of conference champions.

I thought a few weeks ago that the SEC would get two teams in, but I'm changing my mind on that unless FSU, Oregon, or Bama loses. Miss. St's potential win in the Egg Bowl won't look as good now, and I can't see them holding off Baylor or even possibly OSU. It's funny to think that what is keeping TCU ahead of Baylor right now is their nonconference win over the Gophers. If the Gophers keep winning, that could help TCU a lot.

Murf, where is the PAC 12 title game? I always thought it was home site, but I heard that Saturday was probably Mariota's last home game? UCLA is looking like a much improved team and may challenge your Ducks.

Ian Joseph -> RE: College Football (Future Vikings!) (11/24/2014 9:03:05 AM)

P12CG is at the 49ers stadium. It was changed to a neutral site for the first time this season, which is probably whats going to be the case in the future.

Does anybody know where the semi-Finals are?

I thought I heard this morning that if the rankings remained as they are today, that Oregon would play Florida State in the Rose Bowl?

Guest -> RE: College Football (Future Vikings!) (11/24/2014 9:14:13 AM)

You ready for another trip to the Rose Bowl Ian, Art, Jason, Greg?

Those tickets will be hard to get and incredibly expensive. And you guys traveling from San Diego need to be in town the night before lol

It's a TV game for me.
I'm tripped out this year.

They will try to rank the 4 teams so that they can create the most interest geographically.
If Oregon is in they will play at the Rose Bowl.

drew -> RE: College Football (Future Vikings!) (11/24/2014 12:25:51 PM)

Semifinals are Rose Bowl and Sugar Bowl. Whoever winds up #1 gets to play in whichever city is closest to them (Oregon would be LA, Bama would be in NO, etc.). The 2-3 matchup is in the other bowl.

Thanks for the info Ian on the PAC 12 game.

Kurt,
I have high donor/long time season ticket status with U of O and will be getting tickets, but not going, if they make it.
I plan to sell them if things work out.
I plan to make some money on them but would consider Friend Prices if you are interested.

They were saying it is expected for the committee to arrange 1-4 not on actual merit (since 1-4 are all that get in to the playoff) but on geographical priorities.

If ALA is 1 and ORE is 2 or 3 then the games will be at the Sugar Bowl and the Rose Bowl respectively.
But if ORE is #4 they are likely to bump them to #3 so that they will play in Pasadena.
They laid out a bunch of scenarios.

No, I don't like going to Corvallis because of drunk angry Beaver Fans.
They are a bitter group.
I didn't mind a little scrap, trash talk back in the day, but my wife does not condone such behavior.

Really? I didn't know that. Seems stupid as it's possible they put the two best teams at 1 and 4 to keep them close to home.

I think most of them will embrace a loss to get rid of Reilly this year.

Kurt, if youre in on this, I'll roll with you.

McMurfy -> RE: College Football (Future Vikings!) (11/24/2014 5:33:00 PM)

I touched base with my ticket partner and told him I wanted to pursue tickets whether we go or not.
He said they might pull the old, if you want tickets to any potential post season games, you first have to buy the Pac-12 CG, which is no big deal as they are easily moved.
I'll keep you posted on here or by PM as this think progresses.
I know for the BCS game in Az, the ticket face value was $300.00
