Nah.. They have something with Brandon Weeden. They need more around him.

I suspect the first pick will either be a lineman or a quarterback to a team that doesn't actually need one short term.

We have something with Christian Ponder, but some of the local intelligensia insisted that we needed to tank for Robert Griffin III or Andrew Luck, too.

I hope that, for the sake of their fans, the Browns are smarter than that. Weeden's been much better than I expected him to be.

Ponder is playing well

But Griffin is twice the QB of Ponder - already

Not even close

Griffin reminds me of Vick.
He needs to embrace the pocket or his career will be similarly disappointing considering his stature.

Griffin is 225 lbs. What do you mean about his stature?

Vick has a much smaller frame.

Soaking wet in a saddle maybe.
He looks as fragile as Vick.

IOW,

I am going to ignore the facts because they don't support my argument

They are the same weight and Griffin is two inches taller, which give the appearance of someone looking thinner.

Now Geno Smith looks like the complete package...
Whoever drafts #1 this year is getting a once in a lifetime QB.

Baylor quarterback Robert Griffin III measured in at 6-foot-2 3/8 and 223

2 inches taller and 15 pounds heavier than Vick

But don't let that stop you

Ian Joseph -> RE: College Football (Future Vikings!) (10/7/2012 8:38:34 AM)

Geno Smith reminds me of Vince Young. I don't see once in a lifetime when I see him play.

Yeah because Vince Young was always 24td 0 int at this point in the season!

They don't even remotely resemble each other in style either. Do they have similar mugs or something?

The only way they possibly resemble each other can be in appearance.

Smith might not be a once in a lifetime player but to suggest he and Vince Young are similar is hilarious!

Ian Joseph -> RE: College Football (Future Vikings!) (10/7/2012 9:12:05 AM)

It's their body language more than anything else.

John Childress -> RE: College Football (Future Vikings!) (10/7/2012 9:16:36 AM)

Geno Smith is in no shape or form anything like Vince Young

Whey does every Black QB have to get compared to another Black QB - even if there is no resemblance at all?

Is this 1955?

John Childress -> RE: College Football (Future Vikings!) (10/7/2012 9:18:07 AM)

One day, when my grandkids are old, a Black QB will actually be compared

to himself!

Ricky J -> RE: College Football (Future Vikings!) (10/7/2012 9:18:15 AM)

Can a black man compare black QBs without criticism or is it just white guys?

There are plenty of ignorant Black men out there

It is beyond ridiculous that every single Black QB has to be compared to an older Black QB

Then the next step is

Vick can't win the big one so Griffin can't - as if they are related

Smith must be Vince Young so he is guaranteed to be a bust

Meanwhile, Andrew Luck is a sure fire can't miss.

The sad thing is some people don't even realize how bigoted they are. Black or White!

John Childress -> RE: College Football (Future Vikings!) (10/7/2012 9:21:39 AM)

The key distinction is the comparison of a young Black QB to an older one is almost always used to put down the young QB and/or limit his ceiling.

Which actually means Griffith is thinner. If you stick a shoulder into the ribs of a guy who is 7-0 200 lbs, and you stick a shoulder into the ribs of a guy who is 6-0 200 lbs, who is more likely to crumple with a crushed torso? Manute Bol being the possible exception to this rule. Shawn Bradley, not so much.

Do you mean is a black man immune to criticism for his comparison of black QBs simply because he's black?

Guest -> RE: College Football (Future Vikings!) (10/7/2012 10:14:14 AM)

Sure is a good thing I don't take it personal everytime any good young white basketball player is only compared to the John Stockton's, John Paxson's, Steve Kerr's of the world. If he happens to be just a little athletic he's compared to Rex Chapman.

John Childress -> RE: College Football (Future Vikings!) (10/7/2012 10:28:06 AM)

Last year Smith threw for 4385 yards, 31 TDs, 7 INTs, and rushed for -33 yards.

In what way does that resemble Vince Young?

Smith has a career rushing average of 2 yards per carry

Since the beginning of 2011 he has the grand total of 33 rushing yards! Total, not per game.

Guy rushes about as well as Dan Marino

Go somewhere with that bullshit. When I, a black man, says that Geno Smith reminds me of Vince Young, why does it automatically mean comparing one black quarterback to another? He reminds me of Vince Young and I said becuz of his body language.

If you want me to elaborate, then say that. But leave your pseudo reverse racism bullshit at home and certainly out of my mouth, period.

No. It just struck me as same old bull shit when John posts what he posts after Ian makes his post.

Griffin's "take all hits" mentality and failure to embrace the pocket got him concussed today.
As I said earlier, right now his play reminds me of Vick.
Dude is not gonna hold up unless he changes his game.

Geno is a pure pocket passer with a beautiful throw and a strong arm.
He is light years ahead in his development than Griffin, Ponder, Luck and any QB drafted in the past 2-3 years, maybe longer.

Guest -> RE: College Football (Future Vikings!) (10/7/2012 7:48:49 PM)

OK, maybe not light years.
Just ahead.

Guest -> RE: College Football (Future Vikings!) (10/7/2012 7:50:22 PM)

My man Arturo certainly called it today. RG3 looked exactly like Vick today getting his bell rung out of the pocket.

Jeff Jesser -> RE: College Football (Future Vikings!) (10/7/2012 8:29:57 PM)

Hopefully he learned. That hit actually could have been worse. He needs to get out of bounds. There was nothing positive going to happen with him taking that shot.

Guest -> RE: College Football (Future Vikings!) (10/7/2012 11:07:52 PM)

sometimes you gotta get run over by a truck, to learn it's better to just get the hell out of the way...[:D]

Wow, you are high on Geno Smith.

He's gonna be a high impact player ... up there with Moss in his prime.
