Unbelievable that these guys get in to this kind of stuff.

Hypocrites.

"We contacted them to remind them that everyone has a responsibility to respect the game," NFL executive vice president Ray Anderson said Thursday night.

Ponder is not the only one having trouble with deep balls:

In two games, Manning has made it clear his passing game is restricted to a 20-yard area. He is completing 74.1 percent of his passes when the ball travels 20 yards or fewer in the air, but according to ESPN Stats & Information, he's 0-for-5 on throws 21 yards or longer. His three interceptions in the first quarter against Atlanta came outside his 20-yard comfort zone.

Revis done for year.
Killer for the Jets.

Beat the Giants or sit the bench for Vick?

Best special-teamer: Tennessee running back Darius Reynaud. For throwing a 28-yard backward lateral on a punt return for a touchdown in Week 3 against Detroit ... and later in the game for running a kickoff back 105 yards for a touchdown. Cool thing about it: In 11 years of high school, college and pro football, Reynaud had never thrown a football in a game -- and this one, by the southpaw, was a spiral that looked like Steve Young threw it.

John Childress -> NFL 1/4 season pole (10/1/2012 10:44:27 AM)

NFL 1/4 season pole

Biggest surprises

Vikings - the 3-1 record is a pleasant surprise, the dismantling of the 49ers is what ranks them here
Cardinals - very solid defense and efficient play out of Kolb. I won't believe in them until they beat SF though.

Biggest letdowns

Saints - they switched to the Giants/Eagles (Spags) pressure defense but their front 4 can't pressure like Spags' old teams can
Lions - need a new head coach. Most underachieving team in the NFL and it traces to the jackwagon HC
Steelers - defense looks old and hurt, running game is suspect

Teams to watch/on the rise

Patriots - yeah, I know it was the Bills but 45 points in 2 quarters? I hate the Patriots but they are good!
Broncos - Peyton is showing me more than I thought he had, but I am not yet a believer in this team until I see him beat some top teams
Giants - Eli had an off game, for him, and they still almost won on the road. When Nicks gets healthy they will be the team to beat in the NFC East
Cowboys - Another team like Detroit that doesn't produce to its potential. This might be the best chance for Romo

Best teams at 1/4 pole IMO

1. 49ers - yes, the Vikings handed it to them but I think they are back in stride
2. Texans - never liked Schaub but he is 8-0 in his last 8 starts with an average win by 20 points
3. Falcons - not really sold on this team but they did beat SD 27-3
4. Giants - yeah, 2 tough division losses but when they get healthy they will be tough
5. Cardinals - they are like the 49ers from last year. will see if they can keep it up
6. Ravens - beat Pats by a point and lost to Eagles by a point
7. Eagles - not firing on all cylinders yet without Maclin
8. Patriots - big win but they are 0-2 against potential playoff teams
9. Packers - agree with Lars, not seeing the explosiveness out of them and Saints scored easily on that defense
10.Vikings - edge out the Bengals by virute of big win over 49ers

Todd M -> RE: NFL 1/4 season pole (10/1/2012 11:05:15 AM)

I think the Falcons are the team to beat in the NFC.

John Childress -> RE: NFL 1/4 season pole (10/1/2012 11:08:31 AM)

Carolina had them beat

And I don't think Carolina is that good.

Ryan chokes so much in the postseason I can't believe in this team until he turns that around

71.2 QB rating in the postseason
0-3

Then again, those stats probably mirror Peyton Manning's first 3 playoff starts!

marty -> RE: NFL 1/4 season pole (10/1/2012 11:12:35 AM)

I've not been that impressed with Ryan, I think he is benefitting from GREAT OL play. A little pressure and he looks pretty ordinary.

He just needs to retire.  If he is really not capable of throwing that far, it seems to me that there is something that will never be right, and at his age (not that he's old) he is playing dice.  Body doesnt heal like it did at 25.

SoMnFan -> RE: Around The NFL (News) - 2012 (10/1/2012 5:22:26 PM)

Could be a good one tonight
Two hungry teams with flaws
Would be nice to add another loss to Da Bears

John Childress -> RE: Around The NFL (News) - 2012 (10/6/2012 10:12:33 AM)

Kind of funny that Eli ended being the better QB

All that hype for Peyton but Eli is the one who is clutch

“(The record) didn’t blow me away,” Bradshaw said. “I’m not much on that stuff … I’m not into records, fellas. I’m just into winning football games. (The Saints) hadn’t won a game … I’m not into records, I’m into winning Super Bowls … These things aren’t important. We lose sight of why we play. We play to win and to win championships, not to break records.”

Tough not to agree with Bradshaw on that. While the record was certainly impressive and something to be proud of, it was bizarre that they celebrated it so emphatically with the Saints having been off to such a horrendous start. Bradshaw seemed most annoyed by the fact that Brees asked the NFL for permission to have suspended head coach Sean Payton in attendance.

“I was a little upset that he went to the NFL to get Payton and everybody back to watch him break a record,” Bradshaw said. “I’m like, ‘Are you kidding me?’ I never would have gone and asked for them back … I thought it was disrespectful to the San Diego Chargers … So break it, go ahead. Hell, you’re throwing it 50 times a game … I’m just against stuff like that. I just don’t believe in doing stuff like that.”

Good way to apply for the job?
quote:

In his first interview since his now infamous tweet, T.O. said the Jets are acting desperate when they have cornerback Antonio Cromartie lining up as a wide receiver.

“It’s not begging for a job when you know you can still play at a high level, given the opportunity,” Owens told TSN in Canada. “When you have a defensive back playing offense and running routes, I think that’s more desperate than my actual tweet itself.”

Owens has been heavily criticized for what many consider was a desperate tweet Monday night as the Jets went down in defeat, 23-17, to the undefeated Houston Texans:

Geez. Brees - just shut up and throw footballs.

Todd M -> RE: Around The NFL (News) - 2012 (10/11/2012 5:58:05 PM)

I hope Vick got a shelter dog from death row.

I've stated long ago that I was ok with him owning a dog. Mainly figuring a rescued dog would be just fine and it would beat the alternative. It will be fairly hollow for me if it's a labradoodle that cost a pretty penny.

One last note - I can't even read the comments on any Vick story any more. People are either right there in the moment with their hate or overtly defending him cause he served his time blah blah blah...I find it nauseating.

No.

Ray will rehab, recover and return next year...
He will not let his career end this way.  He's got too much pride for that.

He's clearly lost a step or two in the past couple years...but he's not done yet.

At that age , if he does, it will HAVE to be because of chemicals.  You told me so.     [&:]

Trekgeekscott -> RE: Ray Lewis gone for year (10/16/2012 8:46:04 AM)

The networks are calling the Broncos comeback one of Peyton Manning's best.

Except that he was responsible for just 21 of the points and was put in good field position at least once by the defense.  The DEFENSE picked off Rivers 4 times, ran 2 of them back for TDs, also recovered a fumble...  This credit for this comeback should be all Broncos D.  Manning did some nice things and certainly helped...but the DEFENSE should be getting the game ball for all the turnovers.  Without those...the Broncos lose.
