Royals clinch a playoff berth.

twinsfan -> RE: MLB General Information PT 4 (9/28/2014 3:07:56 PM)

Red Sox fans applauding Jeter as he leaves the game. Not sure what to think about this. I guess I'll allow them to be sentimental for one day.

Was talking about it with a friend today; would have been awesome if they beaned him for his last ab. [:D]

Pretty awesome of him to get that winning hit in Yankee Stadium, man. Was fitting for sure. I'm a huge Twins fan, obviously, but I'm a baseball fan above all else. The game will miss him.

Redmond gets a 2-year extension from the Marlins.

He earned it.....glad for him

Nationals right-hander Jordan Zimmermann wasn't the only one to put himself in the record books during Sunday afternoon's no-hitter. Denard Span did the same in the Nationals' 1-0 victory over the Marlins. With a double off Henderson Alvarez in the third inning, Span broke Cristian Guzman's Nats record for the most hits in a season (184).

sigh

Cuddyer/Morneau last 2 batting champs

Revere hits hrs in Philly

Span Nats record forhits.

So glad for those guys, getting out of MN, with this idiot of a manager.

twinsfan -> RE: MLB General Information PT 4 (9/29/2014 10:11:22 AM)

Nationals manager Matt Williams said this week he needed to see how Jordan Zimmermann’s bruised shoulder fares on Sunday before determining the team’s postseason rotation. On Saturday, Williams delayed that announcement even more.

Williams will likely wait until Thursday now to announce his rotation and roster. He wants to see who the Nationals’ opponent will be first, as the team awaits the winner of Wednesday’s NL Wild Card game.

Williams insists there is no gamesmanship behind waiting.

184 is their record? I know they haven't been in Washington that long but geez. This is their 10th season as the Nationals.

But the last Twin to have 200+ hits was Paul Molitor in 96. In 2006, Morneau had 190 and Mauer had 181 in 2009.

That should change with a full season of Santana as a lead off hitter.

Mr. Ed -> RE: MLB General Information PT 4 (9/29/2014 10:17:38 AM)

In 2007, 11 teams - ELEVEN - scored more than 800 runs, the Yankees well over 900.

No one scored over 800 this year.

Hopefully he learns to walk a bit more too. That's the last step in his development as a hitter.

Ummmmmmmmmm
May want to get this playoff thingy going
Why are we suddenly taking days off?
Do we want to play in snow!
Get it going!

Steve Lentz -> RE: MLB General Information PT 4 (9/29/2014 7:59:56 PM)

Another very good baseball player retired yesterday. A Twin-killer and a heck of a professional. As much as I disliked the Flags I always had the utmost respect for Paul Konerko.

SoMnFan -> RE: MLB General Information PT 4 (9/29/2014 8:01:09 PM)

hear hear

he killed us

and never rubbed it in

djskillz -> RE: MLB General Information PT 4 (9/29/2014 8:42:57 PM)

Agreed fellas. Though his replacement there is even better. [:-]

twinsfan -> RE: MLB General Information PT 4 (9/29/2014 10:12:52 PM)

Konerko was a better hitter than Jeter. Maybe not a better player, only because Jeter played SS. But when you consider Jeter was not good defensively at SS, Konerko (also a poor defensive player) was not that far, if at all, removed from Jeter. He just happened to not play for the Yankees.

djskillz -> RE: MLB General Information PT 4 (9/29/2014 10:14:37 PM)

Cannot agree, Matt. Position matters a lot. Jeter was overrate defensively but he was fairly average for most of his career. Konerko was atrocious defensively even at 1b. Jeter was way better than Konerko for his career.

SoMnFan -> RE: MLB General Information PT 4 (9/29/2014 10:16:19 PM)

Really don't get the Jeter disrespect Matt.
I hear all your arguments, but you show no respect for ANYTHING he accomplished.
Its puzzling. [:D]

Jeter has also had a trail of mega-babes he's left behind. Legend [:-]

twinsfan -> RE: MLB General Information PT 4 (9/29/2014 10:17:49 PM)

I don't understand giving points just because you happen to stand at a certain position as the pitcher delivers the pitch. That's basically what you're doing with Jeter. He simply was never a ML-caliber SS.

Mr. Ed -> RE: MLB General Information PT 4 (9/29/2014 10:17:50 PM)

AJ Hinch; Apparently Houston unconcerned about past bleh

Hinch, 40, served as the Diamondbacks’ manager for parts of the 2009-10 seasons, leading the team to an 89-123 record after being hired despite his young age (34 at the time) and the fact that he hadn’t managed at any previous level.

Wait .... ok, now maybe Matts hate is making sense .....

My favorite Jeter story is this:

http://nypost.com/2011/12/13/jeter-gives-autograph-swag-to-one-night-stands/

I was always pissed at Jeter for Minka Kelly.
