David Wright returns for the first time since April ..... And homers of course.
Cespedes has made the Mets dangerous.
When all that pitching matures, look out.

Go Go starts another tussle, yelling at the NY dugout last night during their Yankee beat down.
Guy simply can't play without starting fires. [:D]

Jake Arietta of the Cubs maybe the best pitcher few have heard of.

I heard Joe on this after the game. He didn't get why GoGo was on him, since he wasn't chirping.

But he stayed pretty calm about it all.

From Buster Olney at ESPN Insider

The unwritten rules of baseball are forever fluid, forever shifting, open to interpretations that are often tied to who is winning and who is losing.

The Yankees were losing in a big way Tuesday night, and Carlos Gomez greatly annoyed them, apparently for the way he reacted angrily after making an out with the score 9-0. Gomez told the Yankees to shut up and the benches cleared, and later in the game, Gomez went deep. Here is a Gomez slide early in the game, which also might have annoyed the Yankees.

From Billy Witz's story:

"Somebody's screaming from the dugout, and I tell them, 'Why are you screaming?'" Gomez said. "Everybody knows in the league how passionate I play the game. It's not meant to disrespect anybody."

… Gomez answered the calls from the Yankees' dugout by saying, "Shut up" several times. He then had words with Yankees catcher John Ryan Murphy and returned to the dugout.

"I just told him, 'Play the game the right way,'" said [Yankees manager Joe] Girardi, whose team trailed 9-0 at the time of the confrontation. "They're kicking our rear ends. Show a little professionalism to the pitcher. I know you missed a pitch and are frustrated by it, but I just think it's a little too much."

The whole thing seems pretty silly. It's apparently not OK to show frustration after making an out with a big lead. When are you allowed to show frustration? When the score differential is five runs? Six runs? Two?

And to review: It's not OK to show anger over making an out in a one-sided score, but it is OK to empty the benches in response to something so innocuous? Is it OK for a manager of one team to lecture a player on the other team about the "right way" to play the game?

Knowing how much Girardi cares about his players and backs them, I suspect he wouldn't be particularly enamored with the idea of Blue Jays manager John Gibbons or Angels manager Mike Scioscia, in the heat of the moment, saying something to Alex Rodriguez or Brett Gardner about the right way to play the game.

Here's another idea: How about just ignoring Gomez's outward gestures, which have long been outside the norm. This is his ninth year in the big leagues, and he always has been demonstrative: He points, he waves his arms, he yells -- he's different. Girardi didn't play that way, and most players don't play that way, but really, when you get right down to it …

Who cares?

Play your game. Don't worry about how the opponents are playing their game.

The Yankees won't win the division if a couple of stars don't start playing better, Ken Davidoff writes. Dallas Keuchel threw the ball well for Houston.

Remember when TR said Sano's demonstration after he hit a home run a couple of years ago was the most disgusting thing he had ever seen.

Time for these old ideas to leave baseball forever.

And on a completely different note......when the hell will fans be able to hoot and holler while a player on the PGA or LPGA is setting up for a shot or a putt.

If a BB player is shooting a free throw in the oppositions arena and the college students are in sync moving their bodies back and forth and the free throw could tie or win the game......the refs don't tell the opposition crowd to quiet down, etc.

Time for golf to change as well.

Apparently it sunk in on Sano big time. Not much bat flip or anything else.

Hit the ball, circle the bases.

Ryan must be proud [&o]

SoMnFan -> RE: MLB General Information PT 4 (8/26/2015 11:06:41 AM)

And that old bastard is damn lucky his public flogging of Sano didn't cost us his services.
Many young, talented, spirited kids would have told this org to take a flying leap after that.
Luckily for us Sano handled it very well. TR got lucky.

Apologize and move on. Girardi knows people. [:D]

Dombrowski gets a huge task to start with

It was reported yesterday that the Red Sox are preparing to move Hanley Ramirez from left field to first base for the 2016 season (if not before). Ramirez has struggled badly defending on the grass, and the team did not have a clear solution at first. Two birds, one stone for new president of baseball operations Dave Dombrowski.

But is it really that simple? We’ve heard conflicting viewpoints all year as to whether another position change for HanRam will be better or worse. Some have pointed out that he will impact the entire infield defense by playing at first, while others have noted that the long-time shortstop ought to be able to handle the transition.

Many American League teams would have considered shifting Ramirez to a DH role, and that may still happen down the line. But with David Ortiz entrenched in that spot for at least another season, it’s not an immediate option.

Alternatively, Ramirez could be shifted back to third base. After all, he’s spent most of his career on the left side of the infield. But there were already indications he was a less-than-ideal candidate there before he moved. And such a plan would, needless to say, be complicated by the presence of fellow offseason signee Pablo Sandoval — who also looks to have negative trade value at present.

Other than continuing the outfield experiment, the only other seemingly viable route would be an attempt at a trade. That’s complicated by the fact that, outside of a productive April, Ramirez has fallen far shy of expectations at the plate. While plenty of clubs would be happy to bet on a turnaround, given his long history of production, Ramirez hardly represents a free roll of the dice. He’s promised $66MM over the next three years, with a very achievable vesting clause that could tack on another $22MM.

Mike Trout struggling mightily.
Josh Donaldson back in MVP talk.
Baseballs fun that way.

What really pisses me off is that pitchers can do whatever the hell they want (pumping their fists, etc) whenever the hell they want but no one else can.

Cards are THIRTY-SIX games over .500

Just a month ago, Toronto was making moves and getting hot, hovering around .500

Now are sixteen over.

Nationals center fielder Denard Span is headed back to the disabled list with inflammation in his left hip, and as Mark Zuckerman of CSN Washington writes, this most recent injury may very well bring his season to a close.

This will be Span’s third and seemingly final trip to the disabled list in 2015 — an unfortunate series of events for any player, but particularly for Span, who is eligible for free agency for the first time at season’s end. If his season is indeed done, injuries will have limited the 31-year-old to just 61 games. Of course, his production in those 61 games has been excellent; Span has totaled a .301/.365/.431 batting line with five homers and 11 stolen bases.

GO WEST Terry Ryan!

The Seattle Mariners have fired general manager Jack Zduriencik, the team announced Friday morning.

Assistant general manager Jeff Kingston will assume interim general manger duties for the remainder of the season.

Mariners president Kevin Mather issued the following statement:

“We have reached the point when change of leadership of our baseball operations is needed for the Seattle Mariners to reach our goal of winning championships. We are very disappointed with the results this season, and are not satisfied with the current operation. The search for a permanent general manager will begin immediately, and while there is no deadline, we expect to have a new GM in place as soon as practical."

If they're not happy with their "current operation" they sure in hell wouldn't be happy with the way Ryan would operate.

ATLANTA -- A fan died after falling from the upper deck of Turner Field during the seventh inning of Saturday's night's New York Yankees-Atlanta Braves game, police said.

The fan was identified by the Fulton County Medical Examiner's Office on Sunday morning as 60-year-old Gregory K. Murrey. A native of Alpharetta, Georgia, Murrey will undergo an autopsy later Sunday, according to the medical examiner's office.

Murrey was given emergency medical treatment at Turner Field and was taken away on a stretcher after falling. He was pronounced dead at Grady Memorial Hospital.

Lt. Charles Hampton of the Atlanta Police Department homicide unit said police don't suspect foul play at this point. He said no fans were hurt in the lower-level seats where the man fell.

In a statement Sunday, the Braves said they were "deeply saddened by the loss of Greg Murrey at last night's game. Greg was a valued and longtime season-ticket holder and an incredibly passionate Braves fan. This tragic loss is felt throughout Braves Country, and the thoughts and prayers of the entire Braves organization continue to go out to his family and friends."

The team also tweeted a picture of Murrey.

According to witnesses seated in Section 401 behind home plate, Murrey was screaming at Alex Rodriguez, who had been sent up as a pinch hitter by the Yankees, when he suddenly lost his balance and fell approximately 50 feet to the concrete below, striking a railing on the way down.

There was blood left on the surface around the seats after Murrey was put on a backboard. A group of stadium medical personnel treated him for about 10 minutes, performing CPR. As the medical workers worked in a circle around Murrey, security officers cleared the area. The game continued as medical personnel attended to Murrey.

A witness said Braves representatives came around in the eighth inning to check on fans and offered them seats in suites, away from where Murrey fell.

A witness who asked not to be identified said she was seated a row in front of Murrey when he began shouting at Rodriguez.

"All of a sudden, he just flew right over the rail,'' she said. "I can't even function right now.''

Turner Field security refused to allow media access to the site of the accident.
