Mr. Ed -> RE: MLB General Information PT 4 (5/24/2016 10:38:34 AM)

This story will give the Dick n Bert show material

"We're not as bad as the Marlins front office."

the Marlins have sued at least nine season ticketholders and luxury suite owners since 2013. That virtually never happens in sports, experts say. Two stadium vendors are also locked in court battles with the team, both alleging the Marlins promised robust crowds and then didn't deliver.

All this from a team that has gone from world champion to perennial also-ran, hustled taxpayers on a Little Havana stadium, and just lost its best hitter and last year's National League batting champion Dee Gordon to an 80-game drug suspension.

"You bamboozled us for this ballpark and now you have the audacity to sue a small businessman?" says Rene Prats, who went into bankruptcy after his Sir Pizza franchises failed at the ballpark. "I lost it all. I lost my business. And you're coming after me?"

The Marlins declined to comment for this story. In court, they've painted themselves as business owners who have been burned on contracts.

But as the team flounders during another season of apathy and disappointing attendance, critics say their treatment off the field of fans and vendors is emblematic of how they've alienated the city. "The on-field product hasn't always been great, but it's really just the customer experience that's the problem. It's horrible," says Axelband. "The ownership is just horrible."

wow.....unbelievable.

Wouldn't surprise me if the topic of contraction came up again.........the Marlins and the Twins. Two ownership groups that just really don't care.....in it solely for the money.

The numbers at the gate might be fine for the Pohlads but they are going to miss out on a lot of revenue from concessions and parking as the season proceeds.

The Twins get a percentage of parking revenue? Really? I would have never guessed that.

the Braves are spending money by taking on bad contracts to basically purchase extra draft picks.

Losses are easier to swallow for their fans this rebuild year when their FO seems to care and are solid in their plan for that rebuild.

The Braves had the fourth-largest draft pool, but have made no secret of their desire to add more bonus slot money, and they accomplished that Monday.

Atlanta traded righthanded starter Brandon Barker and lefthanded reliever Trevor Belicek to Baltimore for lefthanded reliever Brian Matusz and the No. 76 pick in the June draft, a competitive balance round pick which has a slot value of $838,900. That would give the Braves, who have the third overall pick, a draft bonus pool of $13,224,100 to spread around, now third behind the Reds and Phillies. Atlanta’s top pick has a slot value of $6,510,800, but almost certainly won’t receive the entire slot value. Atlanta now has five of the top 80 picks.

The pick was the primary “get” in this trade for the Braves. Matusz was designated for assignment shortly after the trade was announced.

Darin Erstad had 100 RBIs as a leadoff man in 2000, most in the past 100 years. Mookie Betts is on pace for 122.

Erstad was one hard nosed player. Currently a very popular Nebraska baseball coach.

Jackie Bradley Jr now 1/2 way to DiMaggio

less than a year after almost being run out of Boston by the fans.

SoMnFan -> RE: MLB General Information PT 4 (5/25/2016 1:06:42 PM)

Erstad was North Dakotas proudest export.

Speaking of that ... Still in shock
Spent a weekend up there, not one mention of the Sue natty championship
I had to keep checking the map.
Sat thru a four hour graduation AT UND ... Not one banner, not one sign, not one comment.
Somethings weirddddddddd.
They were obnoxious when they weren't any good.
My sons an insider, he swears the name sanction thing has them constipated so badly most can't speak.

It's equal parts puzzling and hilarious.

Kinda scary

Maddons my guy, when he went there, I knew it meant bad news for those of us who like to see the Cubs in misery.

Giants win their fifth straight today, with a Crawford walk-off.

Dodgers bringing their phenom up.

The Dodgers are expected to purchase on Friday the contract of LHP Julio Urias, who is scheduled to make his MLB debut Friday in New York.

So young, so GOOD. 19 Years old.

Urias, 19, has been stellar in Triple-A Oklahoma City this year, posting a 1.10 ERA with 44 strikeouts and eight walks in 41 innings.

Doogie says Twins kicked the tires
Twins had talks w/ Urias' buscone/trainer/rep. Guess not enough. Need to win more of these int'l FA battles

Look at the graph, batters have a tough time NOT striking out against him in the minors.

[image]http://i65.tinypic.com/nlohzr.jpg[/image]

WHAT TO EXPECT

It’s hard to write about Urias without sounding hyperbolic, but there are few comparables for pitchers who have accomplished what he has at this age. He has the upside of a No. 1 starter and isn’t far from being able to reach that ceiling. Given his stuff and the way he has picked apart Triple-A hitters, Urias should be ready to step in and immediately pitch like a front-end starter.

The biggest caveat to that expectation is that the Dodgers are going to keep a strict eye on his workload. Urias missed time during the 2015 season to have cosmetic eye surgery, which took longer to recover from than the Dodgers expected, so he threw just 80 innings last year. The Dodgers won’t let Urias jump his innings total too much from last year—he’s at 41 innings now—and he has yet to throw more than six innings in a game this season, with 82 pitches on May 14 his season-high.

So expect Urias to have immediate success, even if he won’t be pitching too deep into games. And at some point, whether they shut him down altogether for the year, give him a midseason pause or put him in the bullpen temporarily, the Dodgers will likely do something to curb his overall innings volume for the season. But when he’s on the mound, Urias’ elite combination of stuff and feel for pitching should allow for a smooth transition to immediate major league success

Mr. Ed -> RE: MLB General Information PT 4 (5/26/2016 12:56:18 PM)

Urias would still be in EST if with Minnesota.

Stacey King -> RE: MLB General Information PT 4 (5/26/2016 2:54:31 PM)

Ken Rosenthal

Zack Greinke described Julio Urias to me this spring as “the most perfect pitching prospect I’ve ever seen.”

I asked Greinke why. He said:

1. Urias is left-handed.
2. Stuff is plus-plus.
3. “He’s nasty, but not so nasty you think he’ll blow out.”

torn ACL for Moustakas

SoMnFan -> RE: MLB General Information PT 4 (5/26/2016 4:01:26 PM)

Tough one as Royals lose 3B Moustakas for rest of season with torn ACL. Royals no reasonable replacement for fantasy, but available choices include Valencia, Lamb, Nunez, Reynolds

Love how my boy Danny Vee has kept plugging away.

I guess you have to go with the money, but man Boggs and Damon should be considered traitors.
