Absolutely
At some point you have to GET the experience, even tho it's ugly at the time.

Jackie Bradley a pretty good barometer of what to look forward to, or at least hope for ....from Buxton.
Bradley came up, sucked hard, and every Red Sox fan wanted him gone.
Not just demoted, but traded. Boston held firm, worked on him and his game most of last year, this year he is back and huge for them.

Good Call SMF

2014 384 at bats .198/.265/.266/.531 ops+ 49
2015 221 at bats .249/.335/.498/.832 ops+ 119
2016 136 at bats .331/.374/.588/.962 ops+ 153

hey, that's less than 1000 at bats, isn't it?

So Buxton SHOULD be able to get it going too in <<< 1000.

What, Matt ...
No Beltran-in-the-HOF? Debate today? [;)]

Sounds more like an ESPN topic.

I take my HOF-debate topics seriously.

OK, should Carlos Beltran be a HOFer?

Looking at his stats, he's borderline. Baseball-reference likes him:

Hall of Fame Monitor Batting - 112 (137), Likely HOFer ≈ 100
Hall of Fame Standards Batting - 48 (94), Average HOFer ≈ 50

So he is a likely HOFer. His standards are just below an average HOFer. That should solidly put him in. Not everyone can be an above-average HOFer. You need just as many below-average HOFers as above-average HOFers in the HOF.

Other pluses, he has played for NY teams a good chunk of his career. A majority of his best years were split between KC and NYM. Will probably be associated with the Mets when it's all said and done, although I associate him with the Royals - probably because that's where he came up and we play the Royals so many times each season.

Negative - was he ever considered the best player on his team, other than when he was on a bad KC team? Was he a leader on the Mets? Was he more feared than Carlos Delgado?

Carlos Delgado did not sniff the HOF. Beltran is obviously the better all-around talent, with solid defense and speed in his prime.

He has around 2,500 hits and now has 400 HR. Being an 8-time All-Star is rather impressive (but not extraordinarily so) for the traditional voters.

Overall he has been an unappreciated player throughout most of his career. He's sort of the Bert Blyleven of position players, but not quite as good as Bert. It's odd that Beltran has kind of stayed under the radar considering all his time in NY.

The SABR community will like him, from what I can tell, and I think he may have a chance to get in eventually. Those types of voters will become more and more common. I put his likelihood of eventual enshrinement at about 65%.

Nobody cares about 2,500 hits anymore, for whatever reason. 2,500 hits is damn impressive in this day of a-walk-is-as-good-as-a-hit.

Is Johnny Damon getting in? No chance, and he even has the B on his hat.

Kind of weird that he has no chance with "only" 2,770 hits. But we know damn well he would get in if he played 2 more seasons and got to 3,000.

The longevity it takes to acquire 2500 will always impress me.
200 a year for 12.5 years?
I'm not knocking any guy that can do that.

Sources: Tim Lincecum closing in on a deal with the Angels. Giants and White Sox are out.

Mr. Ed -> RE: MLB General Information PT 4 (5/16/2016 9:12:14 PM)

Anyone want take odds he'll still undergo surgery???

Angels righty Garrett Richards has elected not to undergo Tommy John surgery at this time, MLB.com’s Alden Gonzalez reports (Twitter links).
He’ll receive a stem-cell therapy treatment on his elbow, take a six week hiatus, and attempt to rehab his injured right elbow.

HOPE for the Twins

HOPE they don't lose 100(nope; going to lose, and lose big)

That's about all they have left to hang on to.
