Yep, that changed from earlier when I saw it in the 3rd inning.

2 xbh now in September, both doubles!!

Up 7-5, Hurdle rolls the dice, resting some of his bullpen and trying to save it with Kyle Farnsworth.

And down go the slumping Rangers, PIT wins 7-5, head home to take on the Scrubbies, who just got swept by the Reds.

Dave E -> RE: MLB General Information PT 4 (9/11/2013 4:47:04 PM)

Farnsworth pitching at Arlington?  What could possibly go awry?

Mr. Ed -> RE: MLB General Information PT 4 (9/11/2013 4:49:52 PM)

Cubbies and Brewers at 62 wins, vying 2nd worst in NL. Chi Sox at 58, Marlins 53, Astros 49.

Twins are in danger of falling out of top 5 draft pick.

What a bad year of baseball in Chicago, too.

Steve Lentz -> RE: MLB General Information PT 4 (9/11/2013 5:00:23 PM)

Cuddyer is currently 3rd in all of baseball in AVG. and 6th in OPS.

I blame hitter improvement on when they leave MN on Target field [8|]

Hard to believe but the Twins have a 140-139 edge in HR's versus opponents.

Actually, the Reds were almost swept by the Scrubbies, losing 2-0 and 9-1 before today.

Well that explains why we are losing so much.  Home runs ruin everything.

We should be bunting more.

Wow! Now that is interesting Steve. I would never have imagined that one. The Twins HR total is really close to where a competitive team needs to be in order to be a winner. They are averaging around 1 HR per game-not bad. But the problem is everything else is bad.

This is proof that hitting HR gets you nowhere.  Doubles are the most important stat in baseball.  Well...doubles or walks.  Close call.

HRs are rally killers in MN.

Slappy hitters hitting .230-.250 are rally killers in MN, too.

Actually, how confident is anyone that the Twins can muster a late down by four runs rally? I know it happened a couple of weeks ago (can't remember the opponent?) was it Texas?  In that game, Twins were down like 1-5 and won 6-5.  But that game stands alone because I cannot recall another such game the entire season.  There probably was one that Matt attended or somebody remembers watching on TV.  In any event, the Twins have that stupid rally song (ok, I admit it is kinda catchy) but it is about the last thing that a fan could ever expect to see from this team.  I must have heard it 500 times this season on the radio.  That, in and of itself, tells you how sick and disturbed that I am listening to this pathetic team on the radio.

Bottom line, this team has no ability to rally because statistically they simply cannot.  When the team averages around 7-8 hits per game, how the heck are they going to put together six or seven hits in one inning to score four or five runs?

CPAMAN -> RE: MLB General Information PT 4 (9/12/2013 12:46:27 PM)

The Twins biggest rally killer is their roster.

WASHINGTON -- Denard Span was in the middle of discussing his 26-game hitting streak when cheers, claps and whoops erupted from out-of-sight sections of the Washington Nationals clubhouse.

"I think Gomez must have robbed a homer," Span said. "OK, that's good for us."

That would be Milwaukee Brewers center fielder Carlos Gomez, who kept Jay Bruce's drive in the park in the ninth inning of a tied game against the Cincinnati Reds. The Brewers went on win, a result that combined with the Nationals' 11-2 rout of the Philadelphia Phillies on Sunday to trim Washington's deficit to 4½ games for the NL's second wild-card berth.

Jordan Zimmerman (18-8) scattered two runs and seven hits in seven innings for his NL-best 18th win, and Wilson Ramos had four hits and five RBIs on the day he became the 2013 version of the iron man catcher. The Nationals have won eight of nine and 25 of 35.

"I'd trade all those wins," Zimmermann said, "for a shot in the playoffs."

Put Ramos near the top of the list of reasons for the Nationals' late surge. He started his 23rd consecutive game, passing St. Louis' Yadier Molina for most starts in a row behind the plate in the majors this year. He tied career highs for hits and RBIs, and he has 49 RBIs in 54 games since coming off the disabled list.

"He's been hitting the heck out of the ball, catching good, throwing people out. He's hard to take out of the lineup," Johnson said. "We've missed him for two years, so we're going to ride him."

Yes, the Twins SHOULD be like the Pirates, when it comes to defense(since they're stuck on defense)

Old-school coaches had to change. Coaches trained in 20th century baseball orthodoxy had to trust 21st century concepts.

Yikes Mornie.  Pirates fans must have tossed out more than a few f-inheimers your way thus far.

Houston hit the 100 loss mark for 3rd straight year. They must like having top draft pick.

Yet i can see them improving before the Twins. Why? They have young pitching at the bigs. MN has a bunch of 4-5 at best inning eaters that don't even eat that many innings.

Any early word on the strength of next year's draft class?

They will improve before te Twins.

And their GM came over from the Cards after running their scouting dept. for several years. Has some definite ideas on scouting and development. Look at the Cards pipeline he left behind. New thinker. Astros have talent coming, some will bubble up, some will fall by the wayside. Doing it with quantity. Set up for success way better than Twins.

Twins GM. Game passed him by.

Corleone -> RE: MLB General Information PT 4 (9/20/2013 9:12:50 AM)

PHOENIX -- The Arizona Diamondbacks were upset after roughly half of the players on the Los Angeles Dodgers celebrated clinching the NL West title on Thursday by jumping into the pool at Chase Field.
Diamondbacks president and CEO Derrick Hall said in a statement to the Arizona Republic, "I could call it disrespectful and classless, but they don't have a beautiful pool at their old park and must have really wanted to see what one was like."

The Diamondbacks had asked the Dodgers to keep their players from returning to the field once the division-clinching celebration began. After the Dodgers' 7-6 win, the team high-fived and gathered briefly at second base before it filed into the clubhouse, where champagne and beer flew.

A few minutes later, players began running toward the pool beyond the right-center field wall and scaling it.

The Dodgers misunderstood the intent of the Diamondbacks' request, according to team president Stan Kasten. He thought they were asking Dodgers players not to celebrate raucously in front of Diamondbacks fans. By the time the players took the plunge, the stadium was largely empty.

"I've never been around a celebration like this that didn't get excited and a little bit boisterous," Kasten said.

Diamondbacks infielder Willie Bloomquist was the most vocal critic of the Dodgers' actions.

"I think it's tired and disrespectful," Bloomquist said. "It's surprising, because they have a lot of veteran guys on that team that I thought were classier than that."

Diamondbacks right-hander Brandon McCarthy hopes it's his team doing the partying in the pool next year.

Celebrating is fun. I don't care how and where you do it. Only thing to care about is what we need to do to celebrate in our pool next year.
— Brandon McCarthy (@BMcCarthy32) September 19, 2013

Nick Punto was the first to cannon-ball into the pool. Yasiel Puig later took a belly-flop, arms outspread.
