Last Saturday's Astros game had under 1,000 TV viewers in Houston.

Mr. Ed -> RE: MLB General Information PT 4 (9/20/2013 1:18:55 PM)

Wow. Less than 1,000 watched it on tv. Bad.

and then their management will probably wonder why they can't get the bad ass TV contract their in-state neighbor (Rangers) are going to be getting.

Zoilo -> RE: MLB General Information PT 4 (9/20/2013 2:48:53 PM)

I saw part of the Texas - Tampa Bay game on television. Two teams fighting for a playoff spot and empty seats everywhere in the Rays' stadium.

The Pirates should go back to giving Garrett Jones a full-time gig.  They were a much better team when he was playing.

Mr. Ed -> RE: MLB General Information PT 4 (9/23/2013 8:39:38 AM)

Fortunately for Pittsburgh, they have a 5 game cushion and Strasburg is hurt in Washington.

Morneau has 3 doubles and 14 singles, 2 whole rbi's.

Mr. Ed -> RE: MLB General Information PT 4 (9/23/2013 8:49:06 AM)

Presley has a .675 OPS with 3 doubles 1 HR/8RBI for the Twins
Morneau .673OPS(thanks to 9 walks) 3 doubles/2RBI for the Pirates.

twinsfan -> RE: MLB General Information PT 4 (9/23/2013 8:54:28 AM)

Coco Crisp is having another big year.  If he keeps this up several more years, my HOF prediction may actually come true.  He's Oakland's best player.  22 HR out of the leadoff spot.  Only 20 SB this year, but maybe not running so much is helping him stay healthy.  He'll be a force in the playoffs.  We had a chance to acquire him a couple years ago.  Oops!

Funny story here....or maybe only funny if you were there.  This was right after the series when the A's were in Minnesota.  My wife and I walked into JC Penney in St. Cloud and my wife was waiting to talk to a checkout girl about something.  While the checkout girl was talking to the girl in line in front of us, she said "I was at the Twins game yesterday and you won't believe this, but the A's had a player named Coco Puff.  Seriously, that was his real name!  Coco Puff!  Can you believe that?  Me and my friends were laughing so hard, it was the funniest thing we've ever seen!!"

I couldn't stop laughing and had to turn around and walk the other direction.  Then I heard my wife interject the conversation and say "It's Coco Crisp."

Now that I think about it, the names are equally absurd so maybe I should cut her a break.  But she just gave off such an airhead vibe from the beginning that I wasn't willing to do that. [&:]  I couldn't even label her a sheople because I doubt she knows the first thing about baseball.  A sheople would actually own some Twins apparel and attends games on a regular basis.  I can't believe that was the case here.

Thanks for the laugh, Matt.

Not a whole lot to be up for on this bunch. In the other thread, we noted that Mauer should be dealt. I really, truly believe that it would not hurt attendance.

Mr. Ed -> RE: MLB General Information PT 4 (9/23/2013 9:08:49 AM)

And Coco Crisp would have been a very good FA addition.

twinsfan -> RE: MLB General Information PT 4 (9/23/2013 9:09:30 AM)

Don't get me wrong, Crisp still has some work to do.  But B-R currently ranks him as the 456th best hitter of all-time.  He's ahead of Jesse Barfield (459th) and moving in on Reggie Sanders (453rd).  Since MLB has been around for 130 years, these are pretty impressive all-time rankings for Coco.  And he's only 33.

As soon as he passes Sanders, it's pretty much downhill to Cooperstown.

I truly truly believe it will never happen.

First, Ryan doesn't have the cojones to pull it off and get enough in return to do it.

Second, there's the little problem of the hometown boy and his no trade clause/5-10 player thingy.  He's not going anywhere if he doesn't want to.  I don't see him leaving the Twin Cities.

I wouldn't be too sure about that.  Morneau noted when he left that Mauer is frustrated.  He also lobbied hard for an opt out clause in the contract, but the Twins wouldn't give it to him.

Not saying it's likely that he'll get traded -- in fact, I'd be shocked if the Twins even consider it.  But if they had a deal with a contender, I don't know that Mauer would hold it up.

I get the bashing of L-Rod and Plouffe.  But I don't understand the dislike for Crisp.  I'd take Crisp's career over Morneau's.  Mauer, Santana and maybe Hunter are the only recent Twins that have had more distinguished careers than Crisp.  Unless you count closers, which I don't.

I don't dislike Crisp at all.  Solid major leaguer.  Just not convinced he's on his way to the HOF.

twinsfan -> RE: MLB General Information PT 4 (9/23/2013 10:12:32 AM)

I guess Josh Donaldson might be having a year on par with Crisp.

twinsfan -> RE: MLB General Information PT 4 (9/23/2013 10:15:33 AM)

I have a question about WAR.  I assume it doesn't lump all OF together, right?  Because Crisp is an above average producer for any OF position, but when compared to CF, he is even better.  Hope he gets points for that.  If he doesn't, that's wrong.

There is a higher positional adjustment for CF, yes.

Two guys who should not be back next year.

Sadly(regarding Morneau) I agree that neither should be back.
I'm not really high on Parmelee or Herrmann being back either.

Has Coco ever made an AS team or received 1 MVP vote in any season?

twinsfan -> RE: MLB General Information PT 4 (9/26/2013 8:44:40 AM)

So what's the history between Carlos Gomez and these Braves players?  Obviously there was something going on long before this AB ever took place.

http://wapc.mlb.com/play/?topic_id=11493214&content_id=30950699

I'm sure most of you have seen it by now.  Doesn't look like Gomez had much support from his teammates.  Gomez turning into a bad apple?
