Like we've been sayin ....

The most remarkable aspect so far of the 2016 season may be the Indians going 11-0 so far against the Tigers after winning 12-1 tonight. If we hypothesize that these teams are otherwise equal (Detroit's winning percentage when not playing the Indians is over .600), the odds of one team winning 11 in a row over the other would be .00049 percent. In other words, very low. Crazy.

Cue the Rod Serling music .... weird

But the odds of the Indians beating the Twins 11 in a row is roughly 50/50.

Good stuff Ed
Loved the Baylor addition.
But such a minor addition, when you look at how hard some of these contending teams upgrade.

I remember being so pissed they didn't bring him back. Then he ended up being a pretty big part of a pretty good Oakland team.

I don't think we win the World Series without him. They were down and out in game 6, and his HR off Tudor sparked them.

SoMnFan -> RE: MLB General Information PT 4 (7/6/2016 3:36:29 AM)

Yup, didn't mean to denigrate his contributions.
I was always pissed that more credit went to Hrbek than to Baylor.
I agree, we don't win that series without him. HUGE HR, at a time we hadn't gotten anything going.

Black 47 -> RE: MLB General Information PT 4 (7/6/2016 6:12:52 AM)

It pretty much was a minor addition, that ended up being major.

If I remember right, we were down 5-2. Gaetti doubled in Puckett to make it 5-3. Then Baylor crushed one. Then later in the inning Lombo singled in Bruno safe at home with a play at the plate to make it 6-5. Bruno making it close with a bad slide. Remember that? He went in with both legs bent rather than one extended. Made the play much closer than it needed to be.

Then I believe next inning Hrbek crushed the grand slam. First pitch off Ken Dayley.

Black 47 -> RE: MLB General Information PT 4 (7/6/2016 6:28:05 AM)

Will believe it until the day I die, this organization went in the shitter the day McPhail left. Yeah, sure he left the minor league cupboard bare, but so what? Baseball is cyclical. He would have restocked it. He was the architect of two chamionship teams. He made KEY acquisitions around that core. He reloaded in 1989 with a huge return in the Viola trade. Then made great free agent signings in 1991 to win it again. Would have won again in 1992 if not for the tightest corrupt owner in sports history who refused to pay Morris every penny he was worth.

We should have an Andy MacPhail appreciation day. The man was a spectacular gm.

ewen21 -> RE: MLB General Information PT 4 (7/6/2016 7:00:33 AM)

Baylor had post season pedigree. That is why he was "got" and he was a good "get"
I remember him as being a guy who would take a pitch on the forearm if he needed to. He wouldn't ever rub the sonofabitch.
Kinda had that drill sergeant vibe to him

Could have used a Don Baylor on the "playoff teams" of the last decade
They are pretty hard to find. I remember Baylor being referred to as "rent a leader"

I was afraid you guys were talking about him because something happened.
Very underrated guy. I'd forgotten he won the AL MVP in '79.
Those Angels teams from then forward had some name players. Check out the lineup for that '79 team

Papi does everything wrong, and gets rewarded for it. Imo.
Awful swing, awful body, awful athlete.
With HOF numbers. Go figure.

Perfect fit for the AL East band boxes. Just like Davis.

Ownership that gets it, tries to find pieces that will play to their strengths, not shoe-horn a guy like Trumbo in, and now tell him to swing for singles.

Giants the leagues best record
Love how that team just hammers out wins in relative obscurity.
The dynasty no one gives credit to.

Matt Harvey to have same surgery Phil Hughes had.

It's an epidemic!!!!

Matt Harvey has elected to undergo surgery to alleviate thoracic outlet syndrome in his right shoulder, agent Scott Boras tells ESPN New York’s Adam Rubin. The operation will end Harvey’s 2016 season.

Harvey was placed on the disabled list earlier this week, and it was reported soon after that he was to be evaluated for thoracic outlet syndrome (TOS) — a compression of nerves and blood vessels in the shoulder area that is often alleviated by the removal of a rib in the patient. Twins right-hander Phil Hughes underwent the same procedure earlier this week, and other recent examples of players to undergo the procedure include Chris Carpenter, Jaime Garcia and Chris Young.

The injury has undoubtedly contributed to Harvey’s down season. The 26-year-old has posted a 4.86 ERA with diminished strikeout (7.4 K/9), walk (2.4 BB/9) and ground-ball (40.8 percent) rates while also seeing a 1.5 mph dip in his fastball velocity. Harvey has reportedly been experiencing numbness in his hand while pitching and, via Newsday’s Marc Carig (on Twitter), told manager Terry Collins following his most recent start (in Collins’ words): “My shoulder’s dead. My arm’s dead. There’s no energy there. I couldn’t feel the ball.”

Some organizations get it, and sadly some don't.

I think the Twins get it, but have just had trouble getting it to work.
