My favorite is Casey Stengel. I can only imagine what the clubhouse must have been like with him managing Yogi. MY favorite Stengel quotes:

I was not successful as a ball player, as it was a game of skill.

Never make predictions, especially about the future.

To Whitey Ford - Don’t drink in the hotel bar, that’s where I do my drinking.

Good pitching will always stop good hitting and vice-versa.

It’s wonderful to meet so many friends that I didn’t used to like.

Son, we’d like to keep you around this season but we’re going to try and win a pennant.

The secret of successful managing is to keep the five guys who hate you away from the four guys who haven’t made up their minds.

All right everyone, line up alphabetically according to your height.

There comes a time in every man’s life, and I’ve had plenty of them.

Being with a woman all night never hurt no professional baseball player. It’s staying up all night looking for a woman that does him in.

Sure I played, did you think I was born at the age of 70 sitting in a dugout trying to manage guys like you?

I was such a dangerous hitter I even got intentional walks in batting practice.

Phil Rizzuto story on Casey Stengel - "I'll never forget September 6, 1950. I got a letter threatening me, Hank Bauer, Yogi Berra and Johnny Mize. It said if I showed up in uniform against the Red Sox I'd be shot. I turned the letter over to the FBI and told my manager Casey Stengel about it. You know what Casey (Stengel) did? He gave me a different uniform and gave mine to Billy Martin. Can you imagine that! Guess Casey (Stengel) thought it'd be better if Billy (Martin) got shot."

Thanks for posting those, Tim. Heard most of them before, but still good for a chuckle. Brilliant stuff.

Mr. Ed -> RE: MLB General Information PT 4 (11/17/2017 6:30:44 PM)

IMO

Sad that Jeter helps buy a team and one of the first things he's doing is trading their best player.

Don't get it.

Mr. Ed -> RE: MLB General Information PT 4 (11/17/2017 6:31:45 PM)

Also, IMO

The Rays should be given a mandate by MLB to get their act together and build a new place. They cannot get public funding.

Montreal is calling. Either the Marlins or the Rays should go.

Or be folded.

Indians claimed Refsnyder off waivers from the Blue Jays. Makes me kinda mad. I'd take him on the Twins.

Just cannot keep playing in that shithole there.

Reunited with Gardy

Infielder Niko Goodrum has agreed to a minor league deal with the Tigers, according to his agents at Reynolds Sports Management

Looks like MLB, The Players Association and Japanese baseball have agreed to a new posting system. The owners are expected to ratify it on Dec. 1. Shohei Ohtani could be put up for bid next week as a result.

Moose is a FA this offseason.

KC will be losing a ton of players who someone will overpay.

Sounds like the Yanks are going with Aaron Boone
Did not see that coming, but I like it.
Smart sharp baseball guy who understands the trials and tribulations of that place.

The Babe Ruth of Japan, Shohei Ohtani, will not be playing in the House that Ruth Built. Nor will he end up where the Babe began his career.

New York Yankees general manager Brian Cashman informed reporters Sunday night that Ohtani's representatives have told the team they will not be invited to make a presentation for the starter/slugger. The Yankees have been preparing their bid for months for the services of the 23-year-old with a 100 mph fastball and devastating swing.

Later Sunday, Boston Red Sox GM Dave Dombrowski said that Boston is out of the running, as well.

Cashman said Ohtani seems to be leaning toward West Coast teams in smaller markets.

According to multiple reports, the Minnesota Twins and Oakland Athletics are also out.

Cashman made his comments during the Heights and Lights event in Stamford, Connecticut, where he annually rappels off a 22-story building. Cashman called Ohtani's decision "disappointing."

The Yankees were perceived to be the favorite by many because they had the second-most amount of international signing bonus money ($3.35M), the diversity of New York, the successful recent history with Japanese players, like Hideki Matsui and Masahiro Tanaka, and a chance to win immediately.

53 year old Rafael Palmeiro is serious about making a comeback to MLB if someone gives him a shot, errrrr, chance.
Out of money already Rafael?

twinsfan -> RE: MLB General Information PT 4 (12/6/2017 10:09:26 PM)

I know how he feels. At 53 I felt I still had 40 years left in me. By the time I hit the double nickels I was ready to call it a day. Good luck to Mr. Gold Glove.
