Ichiro wants to play until he's 50
Marlins are not pursuing him
Why don't we kick THOSE tires?
He'd still out-knock most anyone we will think is good enough to be our DH, imo.

This would not sit well with Matt. He likes those Jason Tyner, Maestro, and Robbie Grossman type guys in the batting order as the DH.

Colorado signs Wade Davis to a 3 year, 52 million dollar contract.

Wow

Wow

I want my owners to spend like drunken sailors.
That said, I'd freak out if they pulled a stunt like that.
Yuck.

He will pitch around 150 innings IF he stays healthy.

That is 150 innings at best over three years for 52 million.

The could move him back to the starting rotation.

For some reason, saw a lot of Davis down the stretch last year
He's no longer lights out
He's not even at the dimmer switch level anymore.

The definition of baseball insanity and why the game is going into the cesspool of stupidity.

My thoughts exactly SMF. This may go down as the worst contract in MLB history and there are a lot of contenders.

twinsfan -> RE: MLB General Information PT 4 (1/5/2018 8:45:49 AM)

By acquiring Luis Avilan and Joakim Soria from the Dodgers as part of a three-team, six-player deal that also included the Royals, the White Sox immediately improved a bullpen that was decimated by trades and injury in 2017.

But as is the case for any deal involving veterans going to a rebuilding organization, there's more to the trade than what's viewed at face value.

The White Sox also received $3 million in cash considerations, according to various reports. That total helps offset salaries for the left-handed Avilan, who is arbitration-eligible after earning $1.5 million in 2017, and the right-handed Soria, who has $9 million left on a three-year, $25 million deal with a $10 million mutual option for '19.

Soria and Avilan provide late-inning help, along with a healthy Nate Jones and Juan Minaya, who recorded nine saves as the White Sox last closer this past season. Soria and Avilan are also candidates to be flipped mid-season if the team falls out of contention.

Mr. Ed -> RE: MLB General Information PT 4 (1/5/2018 12:05:46 PM)

Teams looking to improve their bullpen; Twins got crooked cap. And zach duke. Guess that was enough.

At the ripe young age of 53, slugger Rafael Palmeiro is serious about his bid to return to Major League Baseball.

In December, Palmeiro told MLB Network insider Ken Rosenthal in an interview with The Athletic that he was considering an attempt to return to the big leagues.

"There's no doubt in my mind I can do it," Palmeiro said. "I've taken care of myself really well. I've been working out for years. Everything feels better than when I played."

-------------------------------------------------------------------------

I'm pulling for him. I think he's trying to extend his time for eligibility on the HOF ballot. He's a prideful guy and I believe getting into the HOF someday is very important to him.

twinsfan -> RE: MLB General Information PT 4 (1/8/2018 8:19:58 AM)

and with him, Sosa, McGwire, Clemens, Bonds, etc etc etc etc etc etc.

The roids era happened. Baseball looked the other way because it saved the sport. It wasn't until Congress got involved that Baseball did anything at all about it. If you allow one known roider in... than any consideration against any other known roider because if the roid use should no longer be considered. McGwire and Sosa pretty much saved the game with their home run chase. Clemens and Bonds had HOF careers before the Roid use. If not for the roids all four would be in the HOF now. Palmeiro as well.

End this idiocy. Baseball allowed it. did nothing to stop it. Actively looked the other way...

And the leader of baseball during this era, Bud Selig, shitpile of a commisioner that he was, lookintheotherway-in-chief gets into the HOF while the guys who save the game can't get a sniff?

Come on!

Rant over

TJSweens -> RE: MLB General Information PT 4 (1/8/2018 9:49:52 AM)

You don't know the impact of roids on their careers. Legalize roids and players are put in the position where they have to choose between career and health. I don't care if baseball looked the other way or not. Making a bad decidion then doesn't justify making one now. No cheatin ass bastards in the hall!

So you don't think Palmeiro lying to Congress affected him not getting in....they are still embarrassed by Raf's lies.

Although he is already in, maybe Frank Thomas can join Palmeiro in a rebirth of their baseball careers. You know, he looks good enough to still be playing baseball and he says it’s because he’s using Nugenix.
‘Trust me, she’ll like it too’.

Is Nugenix on the banned substance list?

SoMnFan -> RE: MLB General Information PT 4 (1/8/2018 10:58:08 AM)

He's got that great shape going again, ya know, looks like he could still play ....
Or
Could be a sheet of plywood
Either or.

Going to say it again
That's the dumbest and creepiest ad campaign ever

"Pay no attention to your eyes, here's what you're seeing, people"

That actually may not work. It was just a theory I had. Since he fell off the ballot the year he received less than 5% of the vote, I'm betting he can't get another shot at the ballot.

Someone said a half year active on a MLB roster restarts your clock
No idea if it's true or not tho
