Please read this. It'll make you so happy. A few choice quotes. I bet you can't guess who said them...
-"One of my biggest fears in the game is not having a third catcher. And we just don't have one."
-"Because of our roster, I can't really afford to take Goody [PCM: GUESS WHO?] out of the game. There wouldn't be another infielder on the bench."
-"You've got to be careful when you do these things. I've thought this through. I want to get Goody some swings and I want to get Reyes some swings."

Like my dad said---some things never change.....
Why did Detroit hire him again?

Oh My.

So glad to be past that.

Life is always funnier than fiction.

He wasn't ANYTHING like we portrayed him to be ...... [:D]

Phil Riewer -> RE: MLB General Information PT 4 (4/12/2018 2:40:15 PM)

Our bench was like that when we won divisions....I think it is more because of Gardy (3 catchers, and utility guys).....then TR. They have to look for late power from Goodrum and Hicks? Makes Grossman/LaMarre/Adrianza look like Babe Ruth in the late innings.

The journalist that wrote that could have gone back to numerous Twins ST articles and just changed names.

Wonder when the Detroit fans will start laughing at his getaway day lineups?

Who has the list?
1. Getaway day lineups
2. 3 catchers
3. Turning red when dugout gets warned w/o throwing at a hitter
4. Rick Anderson and Vavra
5. Doesn't like power at SS or 2nd
6. Won't use closer before 9th inning

Lack of any kind of offense at all is what did us in during the playoffs. After getting through in 2002 in all other playoff games to follow we averaged just over two runs a game.
This was on Gardy more than anyone. The asshole would play for one run early in the game, bunting guys over, etc....then, like you say, no bats on the bench. All the pressure was on a few guys to carry the offense

Mr. Ed -> RE: MLB General Information PT 4 (4/13/2018 2:43:44 PM)

On Wednesday night, the Marlins were outdrawn by their Double-A affiliate, the Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp. The Marlins drew 6,150 fans. The Jacksonville team brought in 6,960 for its home opener.

Mr. Ed -> RE: MLB General Information PT 4 (4/13/2018 7:35:54 PM)

Aaron Hicks went home-to-home on his inside-the-park home run in 15.89 seconds. That's the #Yankees' fastest home run time since #Statcast started tracking in 2015.

ewen21 -> RE: MLB General Information PT 4 (4/14/2018 12:08:23 PM)

"If we throw the ball over and catch the ball we have a chance to win a lot of baseball games"
--Gardy recently in Detroit

Why was I watching You Tube videos of this idiot?

Typical Gardenhire talk. Not a damn thing about offense.
This guy has some demented aversion to acknowledging the importance of HITTING.....HITTING....HITTING!!!!!
I want to scream those words in his face.

And was I ever happy for Hicks last night. I never liked the guy and in fact now DESPISE him (seeing him in pinstripes makes me ill) I was borderline hysterical watching his headfirst slide into home on that inside the park home run. The best part of it all is I literally had just arrived at one of my local watering holes as that happened. It was on the TV screen. I actually chatted up a Yankee fan who moved here from the Bronx. I was able to text a group of Twins fans I know just to show this guy how much everyone was going to love to hear the news. My friends did not disappoint. EVERYONE in the group took some glee in knowing Hicks did that in Detroit right in Gardy's face!

ewen21 -> RE: MLB General Information PT 4 (4/15/2018 7:34:29 AM)

The Brewers are going to regret that deal for Lorenzo Cain. Very overrated player.

5 tool guy?
I always though he had the ability. If he stays healthy he can be a very productive player.

ewen21 -> RE: MLB General Information PT 4 (4/15/2018 1:30:48 PM)

Noah Syndergaard has something going today. Just struck out his eighth straight Brewer to end the 4th inning.

10 strikeouts, and they're in the 5th

and Syndergaard is already pushing 90 pitches.

2nd largest power outage ever/blackout has been at least partially fixed in San Jaun.

With their luck will probably not have lights at the game tonight.

My son in law, a lineman for Xcel, just got back from 3 weeks of storm duty in PR. We should have used PR as a test site for delocalozed grid using solar energy but some in power award electrical contract to a two horse company in Montana and others didn't know PR was a US territory that was an island surrounded by water.

No one's killing each other yet?
I have people who threaten my life when their power may be off for 12 minutes. Honestly.
