TJSweens -> RE: MLB General Information PT 4 (3/20/2019 11:48:15 AM)

Philly spending moronic money on Harper raised the bar for signing Trout.

Be interesting if the minor league players formed a union and refused to play until they got a little better compensation.

They should, and their ML friends should support them in it.
Its ridiculous.
The game would only get better, if those striving to play it at the highest levels were compensated fairly.
Its the top-end disparity style of society .... playing itself out on baseball fields.

Is it bad I don't know a whole helluva lot about this kid?

Reigning American League Cy Young winner Blake Snell agreed Thursday to a record-setting five-year, $50 million contract extension with the Tampa Bay Rays, league sources familiar with the deal told ESPN.
Snell, 26, rode an otherworldly final two months of the 2018 season to a 21-5 record and a 1.89 ERA, the lowest for an AL starter since Pedro Martinez in 2000. Over his final 16 starts, the left-handed Snell used a devastating four-pitch mix to post a 1.25 ERA over 93⅓ innings.

I want Tampa's pitching scouts and pitcher development people.

they continue to find great young arms, only see them leave where the the grass is greener.

This Snell is awesome. 26 years old and a 1.89 era.

Cleveland owner taking a page from the Pohlad playbook

Cleveland Indians owner Paul Dolan admits his team can't go after big-name players that could become free agents such as Manny Machado, Bryce Harper or even Mike Trout.
Dolan discussed his team's payroll strategy and the team's plan for star shortstop Francisco Lindor.

Dolan told The Athletic that the Indians never thought they would complete a deal like the one they handed Edwin Encarnacion in 2016. Encarnacion received a three-year, $60 million deal to sign with Cleveland. Encarnacion spent two seasons with Cleveland before being traded to the Seattle Mariners in a three-team deal in December.
"No, but I never foresaw us doing a deal like we did with Encarnacion," Dolan said. "You don't know. Probably the day when we do a deal like that is when somebody else is doing $1 billion deals with someone else.

Where it is painful is when you have one of your own that you can't keep because the market for them is set by larger markets."
That quote might have some Indians fans anxious when it is time to offer Lindor a contract.

The 25-year-old Lindor will make $10.6 million in 2019 after making $623,000 last season. He again is eligible for arbitration through the 2021 season.
Dolan had some interesting advice for fans worried about if Lindor will remain in Cleveland throughout his prime years.
"Enjoy him," Dolan said. "We control him for three more years. Enjoy him and then we'll see what happens."

What did they pay him? Half ownership in Fenway Park and the surrounding eight square city blocks around it?

I was in my "very happy place" last night …
Got to watch BOTH the Cubs and Red Sux get embarrassed on the same night.
It was glorious.

LOS ANGELES -- The Giants added another veteran reinforcement to their young outfield on Tuesday, acquiring Kevin Pillar from the Blue Jays in exchange for right-handers Juan De Paula and Derek Law and infielder Alen Hanson.
Outfielder Michael Reed was designated for assignment to clear a spot for Pillar on the 40-man roster.
Pillar had been linked to the Giants throughout the offseason, as San Francisco had been looking to add a right-handed-hitting complement to Steven Duggar in center field. No trade materialized between the two sides before Opening Day, and the Giants opted to instead carry Reed, who went 0-for-8 with six strikeouts in four games.
Pillar was the longest-tenured Blue Jays player, but Toronto has entered a rebuilding phase and wanted to clear the way for outfield prospect Anthony Alford to ascend to the Majors in center field.

I'll echo that sentiment. And I was all in on taking Hunter Greene going into that draft.

I thought his career, based on the great Twins minds of the time, was over in KC.........I guess not.

16 years, 188 wins, 119 losses, 3.41 era, 123 era+, 585 ops at the plate.

I wonder if there was anyone on this forum that advocated signing Greinke....maybe someone from SW MN?

SoMnFan -> RE: MLB General Information PT 4 (4/3/2019 10:12:10 AM)

Woulda been the perfect Twin FOR A LONG TIME
But ... alas ...he cost money.
The owners and the sheep passed on him
Great move

Will be interesting to see this teams reaction to stressful places and high end players.
Will they pee themselves like Twins of the past?
I'm assuming there's more Maddon in Rocco than there is Gardy.
