"Two Hit Whit" Merrifield
Continues to be what I consider the most consistent hitter in the AL. He now has a 30 game hitting streak
going which ties some guy named George Brett for the Royals team record.

He led all baseball in hits last year.

Kenny Landreaux with the Twins longest … 31 games
Brian Harper second at 25
Two Twins in my Top Ten of all time

Jason Bartlett holds the TB hitting streak record at 19 games.
Another dude I liked a lot.

Luis Castillo with 35 games for the Marlins
Paul Molitor with 39 for the BrewCrew

Former Chicago Cubs and Montreal Expos (and many others) pitcher Scott Sanderson passed away after his battle with cancer at the age of 62. He had also suffered a stroke last year, and had his voice box removed during his final months.

The 19-year MLB veteran touched the hearts of many, and was one of the most wonderful people in the game of baseball across his long tenure.

Sanderson spent 11 years of his career with the Cubs and Expos. He also spent time with the Angles, Yankees, Giants, Athletics, and White Sox.

Over the course of his career in the majors, Sanderson compiled quite the resume. He won 163 games, struck out 1,611 batters, managed an impressive 3.84 ERA, and was selected to the 1991 All-Star game as a member of the New York Yankees.

Mr. Ed -> RE: MLB General Information PT 4 (4/12/2019 8:29:51 AM)

And I think he still has two more years on his deal

I read the Atlanta kid she signed seven years 35 million

And one story called that insulting

There will be a shutdown over ownership cutting back

There is definitely collusion going on to suppress salaries.

I'd say it cuts both ways, given the obscene contracts just signed by Machado, Harper and Trout. Machado and Harper are over priced, which gave Trout even more leverage on his deal.

NEW YORK -- The Boston Red Sox recalled catcher Sandy Leon and designated catcher Blake Swihart for assignment, making Swihart the first roster casualty amid the team's early-season struggles.
Leon, who spent the first few weeks of the 2019 season in Triple-A, will start when the Red Sox take on the rival Yankees in New York on Tuesday, with Chris Sale on the mound.
Blake Swihart was batting .231, but his DFA likely had more to do with the team's pitching woes. Michael Ivins/Boston Red Sox/Getty Images
The Red Sox are off to a 6-11 start, tied for last place in the American League East, and their starters have the worst ERA in baseball at 7.18.
Leon spent much of 2018 as Sale's personal catcher, and much of the Red Sox pitching staff speaks glowingly of his ability to call a game. In 2018, he led the majors with a 3.29 catcher's ERA in 89 games.
Christian Vazquez has been the team's primary starting catcher.
Swihart, once the top prospect in the Red Sox farm system and a 2011 first-round pick, has struggled with injuries since making his major league debut in 2015.
Drafted as a catcher, Swihart first hit the injured list in 2016 after spraining his left ankle during a collision with the Fenway Park left field wall while playing outfield. Swihart also spent significant time in 2018 on the IL, nursing a strained hamstring.
Swihart spent the first two months of the 2018 season as the 25th man on the Red Sox, without minor league options.
In an effort to create more playing time, Swihart added the infield and outfield to his defensive arsenal but received 30 at-bats in the first 50 games of the season. The 27-year-old finished the year hitting .229/.285/.328 with three homers and 18 RBIs in 82 games.
In 203 games with the Red Sox, Swihart has hit .255/.314/.365 with nine homers and 58 RBIs, accumulating 0.3 WAR.

Weird, because they waste little time worrying about where they play, or what kind of buffet table they roll out for fans.

I'm really hoping RockyRococoa gathered in some of the wisdom there, thru osmosis.
There's a Maddon way of doing things, and then there's a Gardy way.

SoMnFan -> RE: MLB General Information PT 4 (4/18/2019 8:33:52 AM)

Bat Flip gate all over the league today
Getting tired of it
Yeah, go ahead, toss the bat, shake your ass, point, strut, shimmy, go flap down, go flap up, skip, hop, moon-walk …. its okay
I'm still plunking your ass next time up.

hey, come on …. its how I like to express myself.

So we're good then

Mr. Ed -> RE: MLB General Information PT 4 (4/18/2019 8:53:45 AM)

Agreed

If you’re going to hot dog it

Don’t get in a huff when it’s done on your team
Or they throw inside

Take ownership for your actions

Mr. Ed -> RE: MLB General Information PT 4 (4/18/2019 8:55:14 AM)

Still remember Gaetti after the WS flip by Lawless
If he EVER get to third again
We’re going to have to talk about it

Loved pre-Jesus Gaetti
Loved the swagger that team had.
No one was going to disrespect them and get away with it.

Mr. Ed -> RE: MLB General Information PT 4 (4/18/2019 8:58:28 AM)

Gaetti played with fire

Am surprised he didn’t get into fights

Mr. Ed -> RE: MLB General Information PT 4 (4/18/2019 8:59:54 AM)

He was Probably disliked by other teams because he was tough

Maybe not like Gladden because he wasn’t as outspoken

I'm never ever OK with a pitcher throwing at a batter. If you have a problem with the batter either get him out or drop the gloves and duke it out with him. Only a coward takes a weapon after another player.
If it's OK for a pitcher to use a ball it should be OK for a batter to use a bat on the pitcher.

Mr. Ed -> RE: MLB General Information PT 4 (4/18/2019 11:32:26 AM)

Right
Obviously a difference from throwing inside and at someone

The times when a pitcher goes inside
And the batter gets huffy bother me

Twins are one of the worst for protecting their hitters since th Gardy era

At least

SoMnFan -> RE: MLB General Information PT 4 (4/18/2019 12:09:59 PM)

Nice to see the Red Sox sucking
Wait …. maybe I already said that [:D]

Inside is one thing. Sure you go inside you will accidentally hit someone sometime. If you throw at them intentionally it should be a crime subject to criminal prosecution.

Austin the one we let go is batting 2nd for the Giants today. Isn't that where you're supposed to place your best hitter?

Not sure abut that. If that is the case the Giants are in trouble.
