Boston Red Sox left-hander Chris Sale will start the season on the injured list, manager Ron Roenicke said Thursday.

Sale, who reported to camp with pneumonia and is behind schedule, will be placed on the 15-day injured list and will remain in Fort Myers for extended spring training when the team breaks camp.

"With the sickness, it cost him two weeks' time and that two weeks is what we'd like to give him to make sure that he's right," Roenicke said. "He's worked hard on getting his arm right and we didn't think four starts in spring training was fair to him

Giles says he had no idea of the cheating because he was in the bullpen.w[;)]

He also said he’d give his ring back if MLB asked.

Mr. Ed -> RE: MLB General Information PT 4 (3/3/2020 7:27:35 AM)

Have also seen a couple of heckler videos

One Got under Altuve’s skin asking if he was going to give Judge the mvp trophy.

Another was in a rain delay and some Astro said you keep paying to come see us we appreciate it.

Then Rizzo was mic’d up and made a can banging reference during an at bat.

And yesterday Bauer spent an inning telling batters when fastballs were coming.

No this is not going away foe a while.

Interesting note
LEN was asked why less kids were going to college baseball

Turns out each year schools in D-1 get 11.7 total scholarships

Wow

So they are divided up.

Joke

Of course it’s the same I’d suspect for other non revenue sports.

Sad

Unrealistic/unlikely that Aaron Judge is ready for opening day, Cashman says.

Mr. Ed -> RE: MLB General Information PT 4 (3/3/2020 9:23:58 AM)

Cashman said that Giancarlo Stanton is considered “unrealistic” for Opening Day, but they expect him at some point in April.

ARod on Astros needed to show remorse

You cheat, you win a championship, there is no suspension - then there is no remorse.

He also said he deserved being suspended in 2014.

Sale reportedly will try to pitch vs potential surgery.

Sox have signed Colin McHugh.

The Major League Baseball Players Association has now filed a second grievance proceeding against the Pittsburgh Pirates, Rob Biertempfel of The Athletic reports (subscription link). The union is in both cases challenging the team’s use of revenue-sharing funds.

As the MLBPA looks for ways to spur teams to spend, it has targeted the ever-stingy Bucs. An earlier grievance proceeding included the Pittsburgh organization as well as the A’s, Rays, and Marlins.

It seems the initial action covered spending over the 2017-18 offseason, with the new one relating to the winter of 2018-19. Biertempfel spoke with union chief Tony Clark, who didn’t weigh in on this particular matter but did state that his organization remains concerned with “revenue-sharing recipients who remain in that perpetual rebuilding mode.”

The Pirates, of course, claim not to be rebuilding. Newly hired GM Ben Cherington has spoken instead of a “build.” Parsing the terminology won’t change the substance. After a winter in which the team traded Starling Marte and didn’t add back much salary, the Bucs are presently slated to open the season with approximately $57MM in player salaries on their books. That marks the club’s lowest Opening Day payroll since 2011 and fourth-straight year-over-year decline.

Sale has been diagnosed with a flexor strain, Roenicke tells reporters (Twitter link via Mastrodonato). He’ll be shut down from throwing until next week and even then will be limited to simply playing catch. The next steps will depend on how he responds to that activity. Roenicke notes that Sale’s “UCL looks the same as the last image.”

“I don’t even recognize this game that they’re playing. I really don’t. You get paid all this money for doing less, doing half.

“These [stat-driven] workouts are all eyewash. It’s a bunch of bulls—t. It’s like the Democrats are running baseball. They’re trying to control something that is uncontrollable. And they’re taking all the beauty out of the game.”

Weird.

The A’s continuing struggle to find a home on Bay Area airwaves reached a new extreme today. This morning the team announced they will not be broadcasting games on local radio in the Bay Area.

Instead, the local audio broadcasts of games will only be available through the team’s web streaming service, A’s Cast. This service, which began last year and is provided through the streaming platform TuneIn, will be made available for free to fans in most of Northern California. The press release did not mention whether out-of-market fans will be able to access A’s Cast streams.

This announcement does not affect the radio affiliates outside the Bay Area. Notably, there will still be broadcasts on 1140 AM Sacramento.

Despite the change in format, the broadcast team remains stable. Ken Korach will return for his 25th season with the A’s and his 15th as the team’s lead radio announcer, pairing with Vince Cotroneo, who will begin his 15th season with the Club. Ray Fosse will also make special appearances in the booth throughout the season. The A’s daily live sports talk show, A’s Cast Live, hosted by Chris Townsend, will air before or after every weekday A’s game, including live shows from the field.

I don't understand how the A's can't find a flagship radio station.
