Mr. Ed -> RE: MLB General Information PT 4 (11/8/2013 9:59:46 AM)

Reports indicate Erv Santana wants 100 mill, Nolasco 80 mill

For slightly above average guys.

No doubt the Twins will pass, and go for rehabs and bargain bin guys at these prices.

Mr. Ed -> RE: MLB General Information PT 4 (11/11/2013 5:38:49 AM)

Reports are out the Cards will try and improve their SS spot, pursue Tulowitzki/Andrus/Provar.

Must be nice to have depth and a team that sees a need and actually will try to fill it with REAL talent.

Cool:

As if winning the World Series MVP wasn't enough, Boston Red Sox slugger David Ortiz is becoming a producer of his own MTV television show.

MTV Networks and Major League Baseball said Monday they are collaborating on a weekly 30-episode series that melds pop culture and baseball. Ortiz and Pittsburgh Pirates All-Star outfielder Andrew McCutchen are both executive producers of the series, set to begin next spring around the start of the new season.

The untitled series will likely air on MTV2, which tends to have a higher proportion of male viewers than its sister station. It will be shot at the MLB Fan Cave, a facility built at an abandoned Tower Records store in Manhattan that has fan features, interactive elements and occasional pop music concerts.

MTV had expressed interest in Ortiz after seeing a fan cave feature depicting him walking through enemy territory in New York asking Yankee fans for a hug, said Tim Brosnan, MLB executive vice president for business.

Unbelievable:

The Braves announced Monday morning that they'll abandon Turner Field, which opened in 1997, and play at a new facility starting in 2017.

I was just at Turner Field on July 4. It's a nice stadium. I guess the issue is they built it in the wrong part of town, which is probably true. But I really did like Turner Field despite its location.

Weird, though, that they will build the new stadium 19 miles north of downtown. That's a departure from the trend of building new ballparks downtown.

It was built for the Olympic and Braves said they'd move in after the deal was done even though they thought it to big

One thing about the Phils; they're not afraid to throw money at a problem to fix it.

Latest is Delmon's replacement

The Phillies have reached agreement on a two-year deal with free agent outfielder Marlon Byrd, according to Michael Barkann of WIP. Byrd's two-year deal is worth $16MM

Mr. Ed -> RE: MLB General Information PT 4 (11/13/2013 1:17:49 PM)

Back in the AL

The A's announced that they have agreed to terms on a one-year deal with infielder Nick Punto. The deal includes an option for 2015.

twinsfan -> RE: MLB General Information PT 4 (11/13/2013 1:18:59 PM)

Has Billy Beane lost his mind?

Coco Crisp and Nick Punto on the same team.

A's headed to the WSeries, eh Matt?

Mr. Ed -> RE: MLB General Information PT 4 (11/13/2013 2:46:31 PM)

It's good to be 36 year old Nick Punto

The A's announced that they have agreed to terms on a one-year deal with a vesting option on 2015 with infielder Nick Punto. Punto's deal is for $2.75MM in 2014 and he'll have the opportunity to earn the same amount the following year, according to Jeff Passan of Yahoo Sports (on Twitter). The option is based on days spent on the disabled list and comes with a $250K buyout if it's not exercised.

Mr. Ed -> RE: MLB General Information PT 4 (11/18/2013 9:47:32 PM)

The Rockies have agreed to terms with right-hander LaTroy Hawkins on a one-year, $2.25MM deal, USA Today's Bob Nightengale reports (Twitter links) The contract also carries a $2.25MM option for 2015 with a $250K buyout and will be official if Hawkins passes a physical on Thursday. Hawkins is represented by Reynolds Sports Management.

Hawkins will serve as the Rockies' closer, Nightengale reports.

After Betancourt last year, and now Hawk, both effective, inexpensive..

further pounds home how stupid the Capps/Ramos trade was. And to compound it by paying Capps millions more.

Mr. Ed -> RE: MLB General Information PT 4 (11/20/2013 5:49:24 AM)

WEDNESDAY: Murphy's deal is worth $12MM and contains a club option for a third season, according to Paul Hoynes of the Cleveland Plain Dealer (on Twitter).

Mr. Ed -> RE: MLB General Information PT 4 (11/20/2013 8:12:52 AM)

They're describing Josh Johnson as low-risk high-reward at 8 mill for the season. TRyan probably puked in his mouth at "that kind of money".

The Texas Rangers and Detroit Tigers agreed to a deal sending Tigers first baseman Prince Fielder to Texas for second baseman Ian Kinsler, reports CBSSports.com’s Jon Heyman.

Mr. Ed -> RE: MLB General Information PT 4 (11/20/2013 9:00:11 PM)

8:23pm: Detroit will be sending $30MM to Texas, tweets Jeff Passan of Yahoo Sports. With that cash, Texas will effectively be paying Fielder $138MM over seven years. From the Tigers' side of things, they'll have a total savings of $76MM.

With that trade you may as well take Sherzer off the Market.  Tigers wont let him get away now.

Agreed. They saved a lot long-term and can sink it into other areas now.

Maybe Morney winds up there [;)]

Dave E -> RE: MLB General Information PT 4 (11/21/2013 8:45:30 AM)

Great trade for the Tigers.  Fielder's contract is going to be an albatross in short order.  Arlington should make it look decent for the Rangers for a few years, but $24 million per for Fielder 5-7 years from now?  Yikes.

Given the $$$$ coming in there, I don't think it's as big of a deal as it would be elsewhere (LIKE MN)

No,

Tigers will move Cabrera back to 1B.

Maybe there is a market for Trevor Plouffe though?
