With that trade you may as well take Sherzer off the Market.  Tigers wont let him get away now.

Agreed. They saved a lot long-term and can sink it into other areas now.

Maybe Morney winds up there [;)]

No,

Tigers will move Cabrera back to 1B.

Maybe there is a market for Trevor Plouffe though?

Good one.

Puig/Sale trade?

One target is now gone off the slop-baller list

Looking to fill a void in the rotation, the Royals announced that they have signed left-hander Jason Vargas to a four-year contract that will reportedly pay the southpaw $32MM.

Would you do it if you're Sox/Dodgers?  I wouldn't if I'm the Dodgers, I would if I'm the Sox.

Tough call. Puig for marketing alone has to be worth a lot. So I don't see any way the Dodgers do it. But I also wouldn't be surprised if Puig has a PED issue and drastic falloff in the near future. The risk of injury to a pitcher like Sale is just another reason the Dodgers wouldn't do it. If I'm the CWS, I'd do it if on the table mainly cuz they are so far away from being good...Sale is only 1 pitcher...Puig COULD have a great future....and he'd be an instant marketing attraction.

twinsfan -> RE: MLB General Information PT 4 (11/21/2013 4:24:52 PM)

So I agree with Dave.

Dodgers should look at point of view.

Puig is young, energetic, enthusiatic.  The Dodgers season was going down the toilet when Puig showed up and he energized them into the playoffs.  Keep Kershaw, Greinke etc and Puig,  Trade Ethier.

This isn't rocket surgery here.

Mr. Ed -> RE: MLB General Information PT 4 (11/22/2013 1:28:58 PM)

The Cardinals have acquired Peter Bourjos from the Angels, according to Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports (on Twitter). MLB.com's Alden Gonzalez reports that David Freese will head to the Angels in the deal. Other pieces could be involved in the deal, though that's not yet known at this time.

And the Twins? They sift through the bargain bin, and "Talk" with agents.

Attitude invasion to NYY

The Yankees and Brian McCann have agreed to terms on a five-year, $85MM deal with a sixth-year vesting option, Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports tweets. The sixth year option could boost the value of the deal to $100MM, Rosenthal says, adding that the deal is simply pending a physical in a second tweet. Jon Heyman of CBS Sports tweets that the contract includes a full no-trade clause. McCann is represented by B.B. Abbott.

And people wonder why they keep cheating.
lost a significant portion of last season while his team was in a pennant chase, and gets a contract that averages 12.4 mil a season...  Nice.

The Indians announced (on Twitter) that they have designated right-hander Tyler Cloyd for assignment in order to clear a 40-man roster spot for outfielder David Murphy, whose two-year, $12MM contract became official earlier today.

Twins Remain Interested In Signing Bronson Arroyo
By Jeff Todd [November 25 at 10:23pm CST]
10:23pm: Minnesota has yet to make an offer to Arroyo, Darren Wolfson of 1500 ESPN reports via Twitter. He opines that the club will need to go to three years to entice Arroyo.

The club has also not extended offers to fellow free agent starters Ricky Nolasco, Matt Garza, or Phil Hughes, Wolfson further tweets.

6:18pm: The Twins "remain very high" on Bronson Arroyo, MLBTR's Tim Dierkes reports via Twitter. It may still be possible for Minnesota to bring him in on a two-year pact, Dierkes adds.

We heard a few weeks back that the Twins were very much in on Arroyo, and today's news confirms that they are still in active pursuit. The club is reportedly looking to add two veteran arms to its starting mix, and has already seen possible options like Dan Haren, Jason Vargas, Tim Hudson, and Josh Johnson reach deals elsewhere. It makes sense, then, that Arroyo is in play, especially since he is one of just a few viable, quality options that is expected to be had on a relatively short-term contract.

Set to begin the 2014 season at 37 years of age, Arroyo remains baseball's prototypical innings eater, having made at least 32 starts in every campaign for the last decade. Arroyo logged exactly 202 innings in both 2012 and 2013, posting near-identical 3.74 and 3.79 earned run averages.
Sigh.....They are soooooooo interested in Arroyo and other free agent pitchers...But....they aren't offering any contracts yet.  Well, if you are so interested in Arroyo TR, then what the **** are you waiting for?  Make the ****ing offer!  Apparently he doesn't know how to offer a REAL Free Agent a contract.

Trekgeekscott -> RE: MLB General Information PT 4 (12/2/2013 2:23:52 PM)

HOF ballot will include Frank Thomas, Greg Maddux and Tom Glavine as new names this year.

Does any of them get in?

Also on the ballot are the Roided five, Sosa, McGwire, Bonds, Clemens and Palmeiro...

Do any of them break the righteous BBWAA writer line?

Does Edgar Martinez get some consideration before they let Big Papi in?

Dave E -> RE: MLB General Information PT 4 (12/2/2013 2:32:24 PM)

I think Maddux gets in with a high percentage -- but I think he's the only guaranteed entrant this year.

I think Maddux and Craig Biggio (who barely missed last year) are the entrants this year.  Glavine and Thomas will get in after waiting a year or two.

And the part that makes me sick...Bonds will get in this year and the floodgates will open for all the cheaters to enter.

Dave E -> RE: MLB General Information PT 4 (12/2/2013 3:15:37 PM)

Agree that Biggio is the next most likely.  Morris probably third.

I'd be shocked if Bonds gets in this year; it would be a huge leap (although I do think he should be in).  There are already lots of cheaters in the Hall, why change that now?

Exactly.

And Personally, I would consider those that have admitted to it before those that stubbornly refuse to admit it, when it is as plain as the nose on their steroid enlarged heads.

Mr. Ed -> RE: MLB General Information PT 4 (12/2/2013 10:16:02 PM)

The Tigers have officially announced a deal sending big right-hander Doug Fister to the Nationals in exchange for pitching prospect Robbie Ray, utility infielder Steve Lombardozzi, and southpaw reliever Ian Krol. Detroit adds young, cost-controlled talent in the trade, while the Nats will upgrade an already-strong rotation with Fister

Mr. Ed -> RE: MLB General Information PT 4 (12/3/2013 5:23:36 AM)

The Athletics have officially acquired closer Jim Johnson from the Orioles in exchange for second baseman Jemile Weeks. Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports (via Twitter) was the first to report the deal. The Orioles also pick up a player to be named later or future considerations in the deal, tweets Dan Connolly of the Baltimore Sun.
