I was sad to hear Roy Boy defending the suspension on the Twins broadcast.

Agreed
I cringed
One of the few times he took the easy route

The suspension wasn't long enough. It's never OK to throw a hard object at another human being and this psychopath macho man went for his head. Fuk the baseball tradition. Throwing at players has to stop.

He didn’t throw at anyone. Nobody got hit. What he did was give them something to think about and make them feel uncomfortable at the plate. That is a pitcher’s job. Poor babies couldn’t handle it.

Bullshit. He threw at him. So what if nobody got hit. This manly/macho tradition of throwing at your competitors (which is actually cowardice) has been allowed to exist for far too long. It should be prosecuted just the same as if it had happened on the streets.

Nope. He threw behind the batter’s head. If he wanted to plunk him in the head he surely could have. Throwing behind the head is a scare tactic. It’s a message. Because it gives the batter that same feeling of terror that a fastball is coming at him.

Even if you're right it's an asshole move. If he has a problem with the batter then go after him with his fists.

Going after him with fists doesn’t give you a competitive advantage. Making a batter uncomfortable in the box does.

Cardinals - Brewers off; Reportedly STL has at least one positive case, are quarantined in their hotel.

Mr. Ed -> RE: MLB General Information PT 4 (7/31/2020 9:59:23 AM)

The St. Louis Cardinals have had multiple members test positive for the coronavirus, resulting in Major League Baseball postponing Friday afternoon's game at the Milwaukee Brewers, a source told ESPN's Jeff Passan.

The end is near....

Looking like it.

I'm heavily invested in Astros for fantasy baseball this year. My guess is their numbers won't fall off a cliff just because they don't have the pitch indicator working any more.

JOE GIRARDI
MGR, PHILADELPHIA PHILLIES

The Phillies announced Friday that they have no new positive tests for COVID-19 following testing on Thursday.
A Phillies coach and staffer previously tested positive, but it's certainly good news that there have been no more positive tests. All activities at Citizens Bank Park remain suspended.

Should the phillies be able to resume play? I think yes. Applying the same logic to shutting down the Phillies the Twins should already be shut down since we just played the Cardinals.

40-60 players per team, 30 teams, a bunch of coaches, I don't think it was even logistically possible in baseball. Basketball has much smaller roster numbers and, remember, they eliminated 8 teams.

What does not containing the virus mean? It seems pretty contained except for one team.

Tigers reliever Tyler Alexander struck out the first 9 batters he faced today. Set an AL record.
Tom Seaver has the ML record with 10.

Broke the record for an RP of 8 held by former Twin Ron Davis among others.

Cardinals-White Sox game at Field of Dreams next Thursday in Dyersville, Iowa cancelled, sources tell The Athletic. Reasoning not believed to be tied to additional positive tests on Cardinals. More a logistical problem.

Mr. Ed -> RE: MLB General Information PT 4 (8/3/2020 3:21:00 PM)

At least a couple Cardinals did go to a Casino, as @TheRealJHair 1st suggested. MLB has since tightened its rule on leaving the team hotel from very strongly discouraged to not allowed. Cards Covid count going into today: 3 players, 4 staff

ronhextall -> RE: MLB General Information PT 4 (8/3/2020 3:34:59 PM)

May need to let almost everybody into playoffs and use win percentage. Perhaps a percentage points penalty if your team is the cause of cancelled games.

yes, it might sound cheesy and you hate it but unless there is a vaccine this could be the new normal for more than just this season.

Deal for a pitcher?

It would be nice to have an ace.

It's early in the season, but Carl Yastrzemski's grandson Mike is playing like a star for the Giants. His son Carl Mike Yaz Jr never made it out of the minors.
