firecrackers and cherry bombs at a ballgame.

How times have changed.

But we still have to wait 15 minutes in line to get thru the new security at Target Field. It's ridiculous. I'd much rather take my chances.

Amen to that.

djskillz -> RE: MLB General Information PT 4 (6/4/2014 4:45:09 PM)

Really? I go the complete opposite. I'm more than willing to wait 10-15 minutes if need be to beef up security at stadiums. I think stadium security is woefully inadequate. Both major league and minor league. You think about the amount of people at these venues in a concentrated area and I'm amazed there haven't been more issues. Hell, you can just walk right into any minor league ballpark in the country and some of those seat 10-15,000 people on busy nights. I want them to get security right at these.

Dave E -> RE: MLB General Information PT 4 (6/4/2014 8:59:11 PM)

We've managed this far without any incidents. I'm willing to take the risks.

As Al Pacino said, you can get killed walkin' your doggy.

djskillz -> RE: MLB General Information PT 4 (6/4/2014 9:50:31 PM)

You can. But in major gatherings, I'm okay with a few minute wait. You just adjust and plan ahead, like we all have done for airports.

Dave E -> RE: MLB General Information PT 4 (6/4/2014 9:58:59 PM)

Don't even get me started on the giant waste of time and money that is TSA.

Oh, I don't agree with a lot of the practices. Just saying in a general sense I don't mind a wait here or there for extra security. Plus, just get TSA precheck for $85 and never have to wait in an airport line in your life. Greatest investment ever. [:D]

The concept of paying the TSA to avoid worthless practices is just galling to me.

It is to me as well. But it's still worth it. I fly about 100 flights a year, so I'm literally paying 17 cents per flight to avoid 30 minutes of waiting each time. That saves me DAYS of waiting in line per year on my flights. Seriously, greatest investment I've ever made.

I'm with you skilz.
When I went to the 2010 season BCS Championship game it dawned on me that I was in a very high profile terrorist target.
Only a matter of time before a stadium is hit and Target Fields proximity to an International Border will always make it a potential target.

McMurfy -> RE: MLB General Information PT 4 (6/4/2014 11:57:22 PM)

What bothers me most about the TSA is a lack of uniformity between airports.
That and I don't think it would take much to add technology and replace 75% of the bodies standing around.
Lastly, how hard is to infiltrate the TSA, not exactly a bunch of rocket scientists or credible law enforcement types.

McMurfy -> RE: MLB General Information PT 4 (6/4/2014 11:58:50 PM)

I'm all for new stadiums, but Atlanta replacing Turner Field, which they moved into after the '96 games seems a bit hasty.

djskillz -> RE: MLB General Information PT 4 (6/5/2014 12:06:18 AM)

Agreed on all counts, Murf. And Turner's a pretty nice park too.

Atlanta's new stadium is all about 2 things: 1) demographics. more affluent crowd in that county so they want higher end dollars. 2) parking.

I'm good with it though because it makes a day game 20-30 minutes closer for me. [:D]

MSP is one of the worst airports for TSA employees anywhere. I have probably been in 25 major US airports and MSP is amongst the three worst, especially at the Lindbergh terminal.

Tanaka appears to be pretty damn smart ..
Racking up lots of wins and accolades, before, as all the experts tell me .... he starts to fail miserably. [&:][&:]
9-1 with an ERA barely over 2. [:-]

I've found them to be uniformly idiotic all over the country.

At a high profile event, I can deal with it. For an average baseball game? It's ridiculous.

You are correct x 1,000

The thing is, they are probably more concerned about you smuggling in your own peanuts, or bottle waters than any anything else.
Or walking tacos, or smuggling yo yos.

Mr. Ed -> RE: MLB General Information PT 4 (6/7/2014 6:44:07 AM)

Pirates righty Duke Welker underwent Tommy John surgery yesterday, reports Tom Singer of MLB.com (via Twitter). The towering 28-year-old was the player to be named later in last year’s Justin Morneau deal, but later returned to Pittsburgh in exchange for lefty Kris Johnson.

you know, some teams don't like getting their brains beat in.

Houston was gripping and ripping. No fear.
