NFL finds Patriots employees probably deflated balls and Brady was 'generally aware'

http://www.startribune.com/sports/vikings/nfl/302789061.html

'Wells said it was "more probable than not" that two Patriots employees — officials' locker room attendant Jim McNally and equipment assistant John Jastremski — executed the plan.'

"More probable than not"? Strong case.

How about a five game suspension for Brady, huh?

Not likely I know. But cheating is cheating whether it's done with roids or gambling or deflating balls. There should be some consequence.

They need to do something. The NE franchise has had multiple infractions.

Agree Brady needs to be suspended.

Todd M -> RE: Around the NFL (News) - 2013 Season (5/7/2015 7:48:18 AM)

Those 4 SB championships must be of little comfort to all those Patriot fans when they talk about deflated balls and stealing signals.

Not like they have Love Boat, Whizzanator, Stairwell, Penis Pics, crooked owners, and child abuse scandals and no SB's like us...

And I had forgotten that Atlanta lost a draft pick over the pumped-in-noise situation. The Patriots should lose AT LEAST a first round pick over this incident.

Todd M -> RE: Around the NFL (News) - 2013 Season (5/7/2015 10:54:33 AM)

"More probable than not" shouldn't lose you 'At least a 1st round pick' and see Tom Brady suspended for up to a year.

If this was our team there would be no end to the defending of deflategate and outrage over pending repercussions.

Todd M -> RE: Around the NFL (News) - 2013 Season (5/7/2015 11:28:49 AM)

quote:

All of the balls—Patriots balls and Colts balls—lost pressure by halftime. Significantly, the 11 Patriot balls showed greater decreases than the four Colt balls tested. More significantly, judging by what the scientists employed by Wells told him, eight of the 11 balls tested at halftime fell within the expected range of pressure drop based on the measurements of at least one of the two NFL officials who gauged the pigskins. This, more than anything else, invalidates the conclusions of the Wells Report. Though Ted Wells theorizes a conspiracy to depressurize balls, measurements by NFL referees on the majority of the Patriots balls read precisely where the scientific firm employed by the investigators said a ball inflated to 12.5 psi–the NFL minimum–would fall to (between 11.52 and 11.32) as a result of game-time conditions.

Since the psi measurements of the two referees varied somewhat, the opposite–that a majority of the balls failed to meet the expected level–is also true. Remarkably, the report chooses to interpret the data exclusively in a manner that suggests malfeasance. “Most of the individual Patriots measurements recorded at halftime, however, were lower than the range predicted by the Ideal Gas Law,” the report reads. But the fact that by at least one or the other referee’s measurement, the air pressure of eight of eleven balls fell to expected levels undermines the verdict of “probable” guilt.

Considering I said five games, not a year, I guess you're not talking to me.

Duane Sampson -> RE: Around the NFL (News) - 2013 Season (5/8/2015 7:51:25 AM)

Since the Pats can't be beaten on the field, let's piss and moan about the air in the balls.

I am really tired of hearing about the Patriots balls.

When scrutinized and closely watched as they were in the Superbowl they still won. I hate the Patriots. If they cheated, fine, punish them. But let's lay this shit to rest and move on.

JC2015 -> RE: Around the NFL (News) - 2013 Season (5/8/2015 12:55:15 PM)

The Patriots are champion because Pete Carroll made the dumbest playcall in NFL history - not because of cheating

Seattle should be back to back champs with an ounce of sense

Duane Sampson -> RE: Around the NFL (News) - 2013 Season (5/8/2015 2:26:31 PM)

Wilson choked

History is littered with one play call changing the course of a game. One or two bad play calls and the Seahawks don't even make it to the Superbowl and we have Packers/Patriots.

One muffed on side kick and voila!

One penalty noncall

One stupid throw

Or ONE GREAT PLAY. If it worked, it would have been a great playcall and NO ONE would have questioned it. But the DB made a great play on the ball and the rest is history.

JC2015 -> RE: Around the NFL (News) - 2013 Season (5/8/2015 2:29:29 PM)

Yup

Most likely he will get another chance this year to get #2 instead of going for a 3-peat

Dating Ciara

New contract on the way

Sucks to be him right now

Over the past few weeks, it has become possible to sketch the general shape of some of the negotiations, not to provide hard-and-fast negotiating points but to show some of the issues the two sides will need to work out in order to bridge a gap that right now can be counted in the millions. Actually, it's closer to 10s of millions.

JC2015 -> RE: Around the NFL (News) - 2013 Season (5/8/2015 2:47:33 PM)

It will get done

Besides, he better go get his 2nd ring now because from 2016 and on it will be Teddy Time

JC2015 -> RE: Around the NFL (News) - 2013 Season (5/8/2015 2:47:47 PM)

New stadium
New champion

Bill Jandro -> RE: Around the NFL (News) - 2013 Season (5/9/2015 9:01:24 AM)

I'm curious if Wilson is going to take a little less as to not cap out the team (ala Brady) or become the highest paid qb.

JC2015 -> RE: Around the NFL (News) - 2013 Season (5/10/2015 10:16:16 PM)

He should

don't know if he will

I still think that last play was called for his ego so he would be SB MVP and not Lynch - and it backfired

If he learned anything from that he will take less to keep his team strong

He can make it up in endorsements if he wins multiple SBs

Bill Jandro -> RE: Around the NFL (News) - 2013 Season (5/11/2015 1:00:11 PM)

Wilson is already wildly popular and I'm sure he is getting plenty of endorsement opportunities

Seen they had some special on espn about him. I watched for a bit. He is not only down to earth but extremely likable.

Twitter says NFL comes down hard on Pats:

1st and 4th round picks, 4 game suspension for Brady.

It's really ridiculous. Without even having proof!

My favorite point on it is this:

http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2015/05/10/wells-report-disregards-andersons-best-recollection-on-a-key-piece-of-evidence/

Now the balls may and may not have been under (we still have no idea honestly), but essentially IMO the NFL tried to lead a "gotcha" investigation and it botched it. And now they put themselves in the position, by making a big deal of it, and leaking erroneous reports from the beginning (2 PSI under, etc.) that this was a sham of an "investigation" from the beginning. The NFL was always going to find fault and come down hard regardless of what they found, or find themselves with egg on their faces. And ultimately, they didn't find anything. Really stupid. And such a waste of time and money. The Pats and Brady will both appeal, and likely win IMO.

Agree on all. Except not sure the success they'll find upon appeal.
