That is disgusting

Tim Cady -> RE: Around the NFL (News) (7/31/2015 1:54:31 PM)

Riight?!?!? A less creepy choice would be to put their faces on his ball sack so only those close to him we see it.

And in other nonsense, Mike and Mike this morning were talking about a Massachusetts couple that just got married three months ago and have agreed that they are going to postpone their honeymoon until Tom Brady is allowed to play football again (regular season, preseason not included). So they're putting off their honeymoon in a show of support for Tom Brady.

I hate to be the one to break it to this lovely couple, but there is no way in hell he'd do the same thing for you. No way would Tom Brady make any kind of show of support or take a stance, setting something in his personal life aside, to back up something going on in this couple's life. And they shouldn't do it for him, in my opinion.

The story gets even better, though. Not only does the guy in the couple have the Patriots logo tattooed across his chest, he has tattooes of both Brady and Belichek's faces on his thigh! Oh my gosh. That is taking fandom to a really creepy level.

I was wondering if anyone here believes Brady is innocent. He said that he has routinely destroyed cell phones in the past, but it turns out his previous phone is still intact.

Bill Jandro -> RE: Around the NFL (News) (8/2/2015 9:03:29 AM)

This deflategate business reminds me of "The Wells Report" on steroids in baseball.

Investigating the wrong people. In baseball the owners and Selig should have been investigated cuz it is obvious they turned a blind eye to it. They didn't do anything until the public out cry became too much. Then they thru an all time great under the bus.

Through all this deflategate business I never once heard about the officials that did the pregame inspection of the balls come into question. If the balls passed inspection and were not escorted by them or security onto the field the fault lies with them. How thorough was their inspection? Did the put a psi guage on all the balls or simply eyeball them?

"Mr. Brady explained that when he changes cellphones, he gives his old cellphone to an assistant with the instruction 'to destroy the phone so that no one can ever, you know, reset it or do something where the information is available to anyone.' But this conflicts with the fact that the cellphone that he had used prior to November 6, 2014 was, in fact, available for Mr. Maryman's review,"

Was he no longer using this phone as of November 6, 2014? It doesn't state that anywhere, based on the way it was written, it tries to lead you to believe that, without saying it. Typical lawyer speak, Goodell has clearly mastered that craft.

I believe there is virtually no real evidence that indicates that, the NFL/Wells Report is completely one sided and biased in it's approach, many people read it as gospel.

I don't believe Brady is innocent

I do believe he had the guy let a couple pounds out

I don't believe that had any impact on the playoffs

I don't believe he should be suspended

I believe the NFL will lose in a court of law

$25,000 fine to the Pats should have been the penalty and that is it

Brady is the 2nd greatest QB I have ever seen play and closing on Joe!

Belichick is the best coach I have seen - right there with Walsh and Gibbs, maybe better now.

They win because they have those two guys for a decade

Bruce Johnson -> RE: Around the NFL (News) (8/2/2015 12:00:13 PM)

I think that perhaps Billichick was involved and approving it to reduce the fumbling. The advantage is slight, perhaps. Have you seen the record of the Patriots not fumbling, though? It is an incredible record.

JC2015 -> RE: Around the NFL (News) (8/3/2015 6:10:36 AM)

Just trying to call it like I see it

I think it burns people that the Pats have been champions or at least very good now for 14 years while our team has struggled every year but one

But you have to be honest

Those two guys are GOOD!

Lynn G. -> RE: Around the NFL (News) (8/3/2015 8:34:54 AM)

Listen, people have ALWAYS hated repeat winners. The Yankees, the Cowboys, the Patriots ...

There is nothing new there and nothing unusual either. For me it comes down to the fan base. I don't want to hear any whining, complaining, pouting or feeling sorry for themselves for the current bad press from Patriots fans who have (without lifting a single finger themselves) been able to celebrate three Superbowl wins, wins from the Celtics, the Red Sox, the Boston College hockey team ... - all in recent years.

Too bad if right now their football team is under fire for cheating. I have no sympathy.

Lynn G. -> RE: Around the NFL (News) (8/3/2015 8:37:19 AM)

And, by the way, I have no sympathy specifically for the Patriots organization who have enjoyed the favoritism of the league and the refs more than once over the years. Just like strike calls in baseball where certain pitchers get that call because they are who they are - the Patriots have been getting favorable treatment for years. Now all of a sudden they are being asked to atone for cheating and they feel bullied.

Too bad.

Bruce Johnson -> RE: Around the NFL (News) (8/3/2015 5:54:36 PM)

Brady lied because it was just before the Super Bowl. Then things got complicated after the Super Bowl and he thought it might work out. If he had just told the truth that he was just tweaking the balls and didn't think it was such a big deal, the whole thing would have been taken care of with a minimum of grief.

It didn't work out for them and no they won't prevail in court. The result is that Brady will miss four games, the team loses some valuable draft picks and gets a huge fine.

Also, the will not repeat this year. Every single loss I will celebrate.

Some people I'm sure. I hate certain teams, whether they win it once, twice never. Multiple titles has never had a bearing.

Todd M -> RE: Around the NFL (News) (8/3/2015 6:58:35 PM)

The Patriots could easily start 1-3 without Brady and then 1-4 when he comes back to face the Colts in Indy.

I thought perhaps a shortened season might actually help Brady out. I don't think he has much left in the old arm...so 12 games instead of 16 would help. But not if they're in that big of a hole to start.

Don't get me wrong, Brady's one of the best.

But he was out for a year once and went 11-5 with Matt Cassell starting.

They wont go 1-3 with Garapolo.

http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2015/08/05/transcript-proves-nfl-didnt-know-air-pressure-could-drop-naturally/

Any apologies coming in here for the Patriots? Because the latest transcripts basically explain everything. And point to exactly what we've been discussing for 6 months.

1) The NFL flat-out lied about "destroying a cell phone".
2) The NFL flat-out lied about any balls being "significantly underinflated".
3) The NFL didn't understand the science at all.

2 more important points that have now come out are that 1) The Colts balls were measured after the Patriots, so based on science those would increase in air pressure (ie be less underinflated) because they'd have more time in the warmer temperature of the lockerroom. And 2) Brady fully admitted talking with his equipment guy leading up to the SuperBowl (after the AFC title game) and didn't try to cover up that fact at all.

The only "evidence" in this whole thing that remains is that the NFL lies and the NFL (specifically Vincent and Wells) are not smart. It is amazing how easily the public has bought this whole charade when NOTHING EVER HAPPENED. Seriously, if you believe otherwise, then you are not looking at the facts of the case at all and have based your "conclusion" on nothing but hate.

I would argue that it's not that the NFL doesn't understand the science, it's that the science doesn't fit their agenda, and they just misrepresented the science, which you can do without flat out lying. THEY know they're lying, but they have represented it in lawyer-speak. It's just like in a court case, opening arguments, closing arguments, which side is speaking the truth, or the bulk of the truth.

djskillz -> RE: Around the NFL (News) (8/5/2015 1:23:46 PM)

I think it's both, Todd. I think Vincent did not (maybe still does not?) understand the science to begin with, and that all footballs would lose pressure. He basically admits this in his testimony that was released with the transcripts. I think it's very possible that Wells didn't understand (maybe still doesn't) either, based on some of his comments. Basically they looked at "11.5" readings and said "They cheated!" without knowing anything about science. And then when scientists corrected them in the course of the "investigation" they did what you're suggesting, and either ignored the evidence and science, or have released information in half-truths. All the while trying to cover up for their initial neglect/ignorance.

If they knew the science in the first place (and I'm specifically talking about Vincent) then this is probably never a story at all. Because anyone with half a brain that understands it would say: "oh, ok, all balls were underinflated, including some of the Colts' footballs, based on the conditions. Looks like everything's proper here." The initial erroneous leaks from the NFL and the press conference with Belichick take on a whole different light with those facts in the public forefront as well. They didn't understand, and it has led to this entire mess IMO.

Seahawks can’t pay many (any) more guys

Agent Russell Okung has his work cut out for him, if his goal is to keep his client in Seattle.

Peter King of TheMMQB.com has a sobering stat for the week, relating to the Seahawks. He shows that the franchise has nearly $100 million per year tied up in only 10 guys. That leaves roughly $50 million (in 2015) for paying the other 43 guys on the 53-man roster, along with all the other extra players who need to be signed as members of the active roster land on injured reserve.

Five of those players now have eight-figure annual averages, up from three only three days ago. Quarterback Russell Wilson’s average burden increased by an order of magnitude (nerd), from $1.542 million to $17.82 million. Cornerback Richard Sherman remains at $14 million per year, running back Marshawn Lynch moves to $10.8 million for 2015, linebacker Bobby Wagner has increased to $10.75 million (another order-of-magnitude move), and safety Earl Thomas remains at $10 million even.

Behind them are tight end Jimmy Graham ($9 million), defensive end Cliff Avril ($7.13 million), defensive end Michael Bennett ($7.13 million), safety Kam Chancellor ($7 million), and linebacker K.J. Wright ($6.75 million).

Bennett skipped much of the offseason program in an effort to get more money, and Chancellor was a surprise holdout for the start of training camp. Three days in, the holdout continues.

And that’s where team goals and individual needs conflict. Players always should go for every last dollar during careers of limited duration, even if the pursuit of every last dollar could land the player (or some of his teammates, like Tony McDaniel) elsewhere.

“You’ve only got so much [cap room],” Sherman said Sunday, via Bob Condotta of the Seattle Times. “If it was like baseball we’d have quite a team.”

They still have quite a team. The challenge will be holding that team all together as guys clamor to get compensation that better reflects their perceived value, commitment, and sacrifice.

“He has taken a stand and I support him,” Sherman said regarding Chancellor. “He’s like a brother to me and when you take a stand like this, you don’t get a lot of support from the fans about honoring contracts. But we understand the things he goes through week in and week out and the trauma he puts his body through and the sacrifices he makes.”

Sherman pointed out that players constantly face very real risk of injury, and that Chancellor played in the Super Bowl with an MCL that was “80 percent torn.”

“It’s a 100 percent injury rate, as they have said so eloquently time after time,” Sherman said. “But that’s what you play for, guys play to win because we obviously play to win. The compensation is just something that comes with it and guys appreciate compensation, guys appreciate being taken care of.

“But there is always more. Kam is making $4.5 million this year. I mean, you can go down the list of guys making more than Kam Chancellor this year that are not better than Kam Chancellor in any way, stretch or form. But that’s unfortunate. So hopefully they can come together on some number.”

If they do, it’ll reduce the number available for the other 43 guys who make the 53-man roster. Which will force the Seahawks to rely on plenty of younger guys with low fixed incomes via the rookie wage scale, who eventually will be in position to earn more money from the Seahawks or someone else after putting in three or four years of high-level performance.

Of course, if/when that happens there’s a chance that the Seahawks will choose the younger stars over some of the 10 players currently accounting for nearly $100 million in cap space.

Lynch will come off the books next year when he retires

But the bottom line is they are going to have to continue to draft real well to remain championship contenders

Their 2014 draft is nothing.

Two picks in round 2 and three in round 4 (their 1st 5 picks) have produced nothing.

Then they take a guy with major character flaws as their first pick in round 2 this year.

They will go down in flames fast enough and I will have my popcorn ready.

You will be waiting a long time

As long as you have a top QB you will remain competitive in the NFL

Russell Wilson is one of the 5 best QBs in the NFL.

Richard Sherman is one of the top 3 CBs

Seattle will be there for a long time

They will drop down to 9 or 10 wins for a couple years before bouncing back

Jeff Jesser -> RE: Around the NFL (News) (8/6/2015 8:32:28 AM)

Yeah, they stay relevant for years, IMO. Their main competition has/had always been SF and I think they will be down for a few years. They'll get some push back from AZ but I'm still not 100% behind them either.

I can't see anyone dethroning them for the Division any time soon.

JC2015 -> RE: Around the NFL (News) (8/6/2015 9:15:16 AM)

I can't see Carson Palmer with much left in the tank

SF has fallen apart

Not a big Nick Foles fan

Green Bay seems to be the consensus pick in the NFC this year but Seattle isn't far behind them unless Kam Chancellor holds out all year

If Graham works out Seattle will be back there to face Indy, New England or whoever

The Vikings are close. THis year or next they will catch them and pass them

JC2015 -> RE: Around the NFL (News) (8/6/2015 9:15:32 AM)

Just need to settle that offensive line first
