Ugly game tonight. Too many penalties for the Beavers. Senior goaltender Walsh did get the start tonight, which was the classy move. Ferris State takes the 5th seed. Gonna be a tough matchup for us. Call it a coin flip.

I've been on their bandwagon since seeing them beat MSU at the X for the North Star Cup. The way those boys hustle and play the game the right way makes them a joy to watch.

Boo. Had a bad feeling when we got Ferris State instead of Northern Michigan. Ferris State is a good team and has a pretty strong recent history. Much more dangerous opponent than Northern Michigan would have been.

Disappointing end to the season. Ferris did to us what we probably did to some teams over the years; trapped us, played a super tight game, and rode their stud goalie to wins. We just couldn't seem to get rolling in those games, but credit goes to Ferris on that. I was really hoping to make the Final 5.

Overall though, it was a pretty fun year. We made the top half of the league after getting picked 8th in the preseason poll, won the North Star Cup, and seem to have a lot of young talent to watch the next couple of years. My favorite team the rest of the year will be whoever UND is playing.

Did anyone check out the Mich/Wis outdoor hockey last night ? How embarrassing seein such an empty venue for a tournament game.

That was outdoors? I watched a couple of bits and pieces and it said it was in the Joe Louis Arena ... I thought.

But the empty seats were a travesty. Not even Michigan fans bothered to show up.

Sorry I have not posted since the devastating BSU 3 OT loss. It was too much for me to take. I was in bed knowing we were gonna lose. When it happened I stared in silence for 20 seconds and quietly turned off the TV. Ferris State is a sleeper if they somehow win this tourney. They'd go in as a 4 seed, but they are playing as well as anyone in the country. We'll miss defenseman #7 next season and a few other guys. But our goalie will keep us in most games. Love the WCHA.

They are on the bubble just like the Gophers. SCSU pairwise is 9 with Gophers at 10. Both could still make the tourney with a lose in the championship game, but a win is a guarantee.

Ummm...how did Bowling Green not make the tourney??? WCHA completely hosed on that one. I don't get it. They were ranked in the Top 8 practically the entire 2nd half of the season. They had a better season than the Gophers did, by far. Very, very strange. I'd be very upset if I was WCHA commissioner.

Looks like Bowling Green somehow landed in the dreaded 16th slot in the pairwise, so they were bumped out by conference winner RIT. Not sure a how a team that was Top 10 for so long in the polls ended up 16th in the pairwise. I heard the WCHA commissioner on Beyond the Pond the other day and he was completely confident that the WCHA would get at least 3 teams in, and would get 4 if Ferris State won the Final Five. But it was not to be and the WCHA gets only 2 teams in.

I have to agree. Ever since Tommy Pohl's life was changed forever by a cheap shot I have a had real hard time cheering for them.

Difficult to like because for a lot of years they were just a bunch of roving thugs, skating around taking cheap shots at players on other teams. I think that has abated a bit in the last couple of years (is there a different coach perhaps? Different culture?). I never liked them either.

Yes Lynn, Mike Hastings became coach and brought some respectability to the program in recent years. Still seem to revert back to roving thugs when things don't go their way though. Perfect case in point was the North Star Cup final game when Bemidji beat them for the title. The last period of that game had plenty of late hits and cheap shots.
