A bad penalty cost UMD at the end there. Looking more and more like I will have no reason to watch the Frozen Four this year.....

Steve Lentz -> RE: Other college hockey (BSU, UND, SCSU, etc) (3/28/2015 10:54:58 PM)

UNO is a win away from the Frozen Four. First tournament win in school history.

Pretty much.

Denver (likely) - gag
Boston U - puke
NoSack - internal organs liquefying

Go Omaha.

Corleone -> RE: Other college hockey (BSU, UND, SCSU, etc) (3/29/2015 6:36:15 PM)

Wow. Denver goes down to Providence.

Told you guys Providence playing at home as the 4 seed was BS.

Corleone -> RE: Other college hockey (BSU, UND, SCSU, etc) (3/29/2015 8:47:19 PM)

Didn't realize Jake Randolph played for UNO. That seals it...

GO OMAHA!!!

SoMnFan -> RE: Other college hockey (BSU, UND, SCSU, etc) (3/30/2015 7:55:52 AM)

Hear hear

GO OMAHA!

The only hope for de-railing the Sue is that there are a couple crazy-good goalies in the Frozen Four.
And hopefully Eichel is as good as advertised.
Or else ... we will actually have to listen to Sue fans with REAL reasons to think they are God Gift to hockey.

Zoilo -> RE: Other college hockey (BSU, UND, SCSU, etc) (3/30/2015 9:44:44 AM)

UND must be consistently good. They always seem to make the frozen four.

Yes, and under Hakstol they always choke in the Frozen Four. Hoping that trend continues.

Zoilo -> RE: Other college hockey (BSU, UND, SCSU, etc) (3/30/2015 10:38:26 AM)

Boston University will play North Dakota in a semifinal matchup of two of the most accomplished programs in college hockey history. Providence and Omaha are matched in the other semi, with the Friars making their first Frozen Four appearance in 30 years and the Mavericks their first ever.

Steve Lentz -> RE: Other college hockey (BSU, UND, SCSU, etc) (3/30/2015 7:01:52 PM)

So proud of my school!!!
Frozen Four and next year we get our own arena!

SoMnFan -> RE: Other college hockey (BSU, UND, SCSU, etc) (3/31/2015 7:28:35 AM)

Great stuff SteveO
Hard to believe Blais is still plugging away.
Fun to see the newer programs gaining ground.

SoMnFan -> RE: Other college hockey (BSU, UND, SCSU, etc) (3/31/2015 7:43:45 AM)

And .... Have a GREAT Birthday SteveO!
As good a poster as there is.

Since Blais was the last one to coach UND to a title, I hope his new team is the one to knock them out this year. [:D]

Thanks so much Lynn and Scott.

Bemidji State goaltender Michael Bitzer earned WCHA Rookie of the Year honors. He led the conference with a .936 save percentage and ranked second with a 1.61 goals against average. Since Dec. 12, he leads the country with a .948 save percentage and 1.31 goals against, while earning a 12-4-3 record.

Bitzer, a Moorhead, Minn., native, also led the unranked Beavers’ championship run at the North Star College Cup in late-January, giving up just one goal in two games against then-No. 7 Minnesota Duluth and No. 1 Minnesota State. He was named the tournament MVP.

First Team

Tanner Kero (Sr. / Hancock, Mich.) Forward Michigan Tech
Matt Leitner (Sr. / Los Alamitos, Calif.) Forward Minnesota State
Tyler Morley (Jr. / Burnaby, British Columbia) Forward University of Alaska
Colton Parayko (Jr. / St. Albert, Alberta) Defenseman University of Alaska
Zach Palmquist (Sr. / South St. Paul, Minn.) Defenseman Minnesota State
Jamie Phillips (Jr. / Caledonia, Ontario) Goaltender Michigan Tech

Second Team

Bryce Gervais (Jr. / Battleford, Saskatchewan) Forward Minnesota State
Alex Petan (Jr. / Delta, British Columbia) Forward Michigan Tech
Malcolm Gould (Jr. / North Vancouver, British Columbia) Forward Michigan Tech
Matt Prapavessis (Sr. / Oakville, Ontario) Defenseman Bemidji State
Casey Nelson (Soph. / Wisconsin Rapids, Wis.) Defenseman Minnesota State
Stephon Williams (Jr. / Fairbanks, Alaska) Goaltender Minnesota State

Third Team

Blake Pietila (Sr. / Brighton, Mich.) Forward Michigan Tech
Marcus Basara (Soph. / Port Moody, British Columbia) Forward University of Alaska
Brendan Harms (Soph. / Steinbach, Manitoba) Forward Bemidji State
Blake Tatchell (Jr. / North Battleford, Saskatchewan) Forward Alaska Anchorage
Shane Hanna (Soph. / Salmon Arm, British Columbia) Defenseman Michigan Tech
Brock Maschmeyer (Soph. / Bruederheim, Alberta) Defenseman Northern Michigan
CJ Motte (Sr. / St. Clair, Mich.) Goaltender Ferris State

A lot of contradiction out there. I don't know if it's "everyone gets a ribbon" syndrome or what. But how does Stephon Williams win Goaltending Champion of the Year, but Jamie Phillips of Michigan Tech is 1st team goaltender? I actually think the Ferris State goaltender was the best in the league. Man, that guy was a showstopper every time I saw him this season. Anyway, congrats to the Beavers that were honored - 2nd team defenseman Matt Prapavessis, 3rd team forward Brendan Harms and Rookie of the Year Michael Bitzer. A job well done. Even with the loss of Prap, I think we have a strong team lined up for next season.

twinsfan -> RE: Other college hockey (BSU, UND, SCSU, etc) (4/4/2015 6:57:26 PM)

Gotta be happy for Mr. Walsh. He was a solid contributor until Bitzer came along:

STOCKTON, Calif. – The Stockton Thunder of the East Coast Hockey League announced today that former Bemidji State University goaltender Andrew Walsh has signed an Amateur Tryout contract to play out the remainder of the 2014-15 season.

The Dawson Creek, British Columbia native may make his professional debut as early as Wednesday when the Thunder travel to face the Ontario Reign at Citizen’s Business Bank Arena in Ontario, Calif. for a 7:00 p.m. (PST) opening face off.

Walsh will play out the remainder of the season with Stockton, which includes eight regular-season games, with the hope of catching on with the organization for the 2015-16 campaign.

twinsfan -> RE: Other college hockey (BSU, UND, SCSU, etc) (4/4/2015 7:02:47 PM)

I think this guy actually has a shot at a cup of coffee in the NHL....especially in the Sabres organization:

BEMIDJI, Minn. – The Rochester Americans, American Hockey League affiliate of the NHL’s Buffalo Sabres, announced today that former Bemidji State University defenseman Matt Prapavessis has signed an Amateur Tryout (ATO) contract to play out the remainder of the 2014-15 season.

The Oakville, Ontario native may make his professional debut as early as tomorrow when the Amerks host the Hamilton Bulldogs at Blue Cross Arena in Rochester, N.Y. for a 7:05 p.m. (EST) opening face-off.

Prapavessis will play out the remainder of the season with Rochester, which includes 13 regular-season games, with the hope of catching on with the organization for the 2015-16 campaign.

An All-WCHA Second-Team selection as a senior, Prapavessis posted 24 points (9g-15a), which includes a career-high nine goals, during the regular season to become the first BSU defenseman to lead the team in scoring since Stephan Bjork collected 34 points in 1999-2000. The Oakville, Ontario native recorded 18 points (7g-11a) in league play to rank fourth among WCHA blueliners. The senior also led the team with four power-play goals and nine points (4g-5a) on the man advantage. With 69 blocked shots, Prapavessis ranked second on the team, sixth in the WCHA and 13th in the nation. He was named as the WCHA’s Defensive Player of the Week Dec. 5.

twinsfan -> RE: Other college hockey (BSU, UND, SCSU, etc) (4/4/2015 7:10:16 PM)

TULSA, Okla. – The Tulsa Oilers of the East Coast Hockey League announced today that former Bemidji State University forward Philip Brewer has signed a professional contract to play out the rest of the 2014-15 season.

The Cambridge, Ontario native may make his professional debut as early as tomorrow when the Oilers host the Wichita Thunder at BOK Center in Tulsa, Okla. for a 7:05 p.m. opening face off.

Brewer will play out the remainder of the season with Tulsa, which includes 11 regular-season games and the possibility of the ECHL playoffs, with the hope of catching on with the organization for the 2015-16 campaign.

The forward played in 106 games for Bemidji State, totaling 26 points (11g-15a), which includes a career-high 13 points (6g-7a) 38 games as a senior. A versatile player for the Beavers, the co-captain anchored a line typically paired with the opposition’s top scoring line and was a consistent presence on BSU penalty-kill unit playing a pivotal role in a unit that was among the Western Collegiate Hockey Association’s best snuffing out 85.7 percent of opponent power-play opportunities in 2014-15.

Equally as talented in the classroom, Brewer is a three-time Academic All-WCHA selection.

Brewer will join fellow Beavers Drew Fisher (2009-12) and Jeff Jubinville (2009-13) in Tulsa.
Fisher leads the team in scoring and is sixth in the ECHL with 17 goals and 49 assists for 66 points in 57 games this season. Jubinville has accumulated 26 goals and 26 assists for 52 points in 56 games as a rookie. He sits fifth among his teammates in scoring, while he ranks fourth on the league’s top-scoring newcomer list.

Interesting. Building a little BSU dynasty there in Tulsa. Nice to seen Jubinville caught on somewhere. He was probably my favorite player of th 12-13 season. Don't know much about Fisher but it looks like he's really flourishing. Would be great if one of two of these guys catch on with an NHL team in the next couple years. Looks like Fisher might be the best bet. Brewer didn't do much for me, but like I said Jubinville was a good player and it looks like Fisher is the star of the Tulsa team - so there's a chance one of these guys makes someone that matters take notice.

Steve Lentz -> RE: Other college hockey (BSU, UND, SCSU, etc) (4/9/2015 7:08:30 PM)

Well.......so much for that dream. Still it was quite an accomplishment to play in the Frozen Four.

twinsfan -> RE: Other college hockey (BSU, UND, SCSU, etc) (4/9/2015 8:16:11 PM)

Well I'm thrilled with the first period of this game. BU is up on the no-names 2-0. If Providence wins it all it should be with an asterisk. One of the worst teams in the tourney got a free ride to the Frozen Four with home games in the opening rounds.
