Here's a good PPress article on the WCHA. The article is a few weeks old.

http://www.twincities.com/sports/ci_27372280/minnesota-state-mankato-leads-wcha-resurgence?source=rss

A few years ago, the sky seemed to be caving in on the men's half of the Western Collegiate Hockey Association.

How could the storied conference possibly survive the loss of two-thirds of its membership? Minnesota and Wisconsin bolted for the brand-new Big Ten before the 2013-14 season, and then Denver, Colorado College, North Dakota, Nebraska-Omaha, Minnesota-Duluth and St. Cloud State answered by forming the National Collegiate Hockey Conference.

That left only Alaska-Anchorage, Bemidji State, Michigan Tech and Minnesota State Mankato to pick up the pieces and carry on. It seemed impossible, yet with the addition of Alabama-Huntsville, Alaska-Fairbanks, Bowling Green, Ferris State, Lake Superior State and Northern Michigan, the WCHA is doing just fine.
....

She was a hot girlfriend we all took for granted.

Arizona State will begin play in Division I -- which produces 31 percent of all NHL players and leads NCAA men's sports with a 92.1 percent graduation rate -- through a three-year hybrid phase. Beginning in 2015, the Sun Devils will play a mixture of both Division I and ACHA opponents. The following season, ASU will make the switch to playing a full Division I schedule as an independent. In 2017, the university will align with a conference. ASU expects to release more details on this plan over the next year.

It will be interesting to see which conference they end up in. The NCHC makes the most sense geographically with the Colorado teams and UNO. But ASU will need to show it has something before I see the NCHC taking them on. They seem to think they're the best conference in hockey.

The only other options I see are Atlantic Hockey (Air Force is in Colorado Springs) and the WCHA.

I bet the NCHC will be all over them. They'd like a big name, big money school to add to their group. And like you said, geographically it's probably the best fit for them.

Wont have problem getting on peoples schedules.
where would YOU rather go on a roadie?
Until Hawaii gets a team, this will be the preferred trip. [:D]

Some kinda ending. Bitzer comes up big. My heart was in my throat with those 2 big saves at the end. Good win. Gotta play better tomorrow though.

Yep, I hope tomorrow night is less nerve wracking than tonight. Need 2 more points tomorrow.

twinsfan -> RE: Other college hockey (BSU, UND, SCSU, etc) (2/20/2015 10:20:20 PM)

So was Myles Fitzgerald really sick tonight or is coach disappointed in the production? They are only freshmen, so it's hard to be too tough, but none of the triplets have been much of a factor of late. Nice surprise contribution from Bauman tonight. O'Connor I believe is our most consistent offensive force and he had another good game tonight. Arentz has been brutal all season. Ward has his moments, but also seems to find the box at thd most inopportune times. A bit of a hot head. Wonder if Walsh gets a start tomorrow. I thin Bitzer has started about 15 in a row. If Walsh is gonna get any more games this season, tomorrow is the night since we should win the game no matter who is in net. Anchorage is not very good...we should handle them easily in Game 2. I realize I may have just jinxed us.

twinsfan -> RE: Other college hockey (BSU, UND, SCSU, etc) (2/21/2015 8:32:24 AM)

Damn. Northern Michigan came from behind and picked up an OT win over Bowling Green last night. BSU and Northern Michigan still tied for 4th place.

drew -> RE: Other college hockey (BSU, UND, SCSU, etc) (2/21/2015 7:01:49 PM)

Yeah, I was hoping BG would sweep and Northern Mich and give us a little bit of a cushion. It'll be interesting to see if Walsh goes tonight - I agree with you, if it's not tonight I don't know when it would be. The next two weekends are at Ferris St. and home against Minn St. We have to win tonight, and Anchorage isn't very good this year. I hope I just reversed your jinx.

drew -> RE: Other college hockey (BSU, UND, SCSU, etc) (2/21/2015 10:20:22 PM)

We win, but so do Northern Michigan and Ferris St. It's going down to the end to see who gets home ice.

drew -> RE: Other college hockey (BSU, UND, SCSU, etc) (2/27/2015 8:36:00 PM)

Great win at Ferris St.!!!! All we do is win Matt! Unfortunately, UNM won again too so we're still tied for that last home ice spot. They have Lake St. again tomorrow and then Tech next weekend.

Sweet! Unfortunately we're still the underdog to get home ice since our remaining schedule is tougher. Really can't count on any points against Mankato even though we beat them in the tourney. But the games are at home, so who knows?

SoMnFan -> RE: Other college hockey (BSU, UND, SCSU, etc) (2/28/2015 8:24:58 AM)

Congrats guys.
Keep it rolling.
Hoping to see a couple MN teams go deep into the tourney this year.

stfrank -> RE: Other college hockey (BSU, UND, SCSU, etc) (2/28/2015 9:35:10 AM)

Were they televised last night? I always look for the BSU game, but didn't see it available.

No, they only televise the home games.

They should play more home games. [:D]

Well, that's another good night. We get a tie and Northern loses to Lake St., so we are 1 point up for home ice going into the last weekend. We also have the tie breaker, so Northern has to finish ahead of us. Bitzer unbelievable again!!!

I am going to one of the games next weekend, so we'll see if the pattern holds of us winning!

twinsfan -> RE: Other college hockey (BSU, UND, SCSU, etc) (3/6/2015 9:04:01 PM)

Wonder if our buddy drew is at the game tonight? Man this is awesome! Let's make tomorrow's game meaningless. Maybe get Walsh a game before the season's done. I'm convinced we're as good as anyone in the country right now.

twinsfan -> RE: Other college hockey (BSU, UND, SCSU, etc) (3/6/2015 9:11:47 PM)

Whoa!PBS intermission beg for dollars guy is wearing a suit and tie tonight. That's a complete 180 from his usual attire.

twinsfan -> RE: Other college hockey (BSU, UND, SCSU, etc) (3/6/2015 9:57:03 PM)

It's official. We're good. And we kinda have Mankato's number. The Sanford Center will host its first playoff game. MSU getting cheap again at the end of the game. Same thing happened in the North Star Cup championship game. Don't like these guys. Could get Ferris State instead of Northern Michigan in the playoffs. Either one will be tough.

Yep, we're pretty impressive right now! I didn't go tonight, watched at home on TV. I was watching it in the first period and it was about halfway through, and I noticed it was in HD. Is that the first time it's been in HD for you??

I am admittedly a Beaver fan, but tonight wasn't fluky at all IMO. We were the better team for most of the night against the #2 team in the nation. We had a lot of chances all night and easily could have had a couple more goals. It looked like a pretty good crowd tonight too.

Looking forward to tomorrow night!!

twinsfan -> RE: Other college hockey (BSU, UND, SCSU, etc) (3/6/2015 11:31:53 PM)

I think I'd prefer we get Northern Michigan instead of Ferris State in the playoffs.

drew -> RE: Other college hockey (BSU, UND, SCSU, etc) (3/7/2015 8:09:13 AM)

Agree with you on Ferris/Northern. I think Ferris will clog things up and they have an awesome goalie, so they're a team that could beat anyone in a short series. I don't think Northern is as much of a defensive team, so our skating and speed will be able to get loose more against them. I wouldn't be surprised if it is Ferris though. They have Lake St again tonight, and Northern got outshot about 50-20 against Mich Tech.

It was huge to get home ice next weekend. We are tough to beat at Sanford this year, especially since break. It's too bad we couldn't have pulled out a few more wins before Christmas, because we're getting kind of close to the top 16 in the Pairwise. We're still going to have to win the Final 5 to get in the NCAAs.
