Empty netter. 3-1. Looks like it's over.....

drew -> RE: Other college hockey (BSU, UND, SCSU, etc) (3/13/2016 8:40:55 PM)

It's a 3-1 final.

The last two nights have a good summary of our season. 39 shots on goal one night and only score 2 goals, and 36 shots the next night and only score one goal.

It's been following with you guys! Matt, we couldn't find a night where we could comment together lately. But one of us was usually holding it down! We finish short of the Final 5 again, but finish the season with a winning record. Highlight of the year for me was beating the Gophers in the North Star Cup.

I suppose now we have to join the Dark Side with SMF and root for the Gophs!

Sad to hear that guys.
Was hoping for a run from you this post season.
Going to have to adopt someone else the way its turning out.
Programs in good shape up there, cant wait to see them make a deep serious run soon.

Thanks SMF. So, do the Gophers have a chance of getting an at large bid, or do they have to win the B1G tourney to get in?

Will check into it
Last I heard, winning the upcoming B10 tourney was the only way for us to get in.

Though the Gophers rallied for a third consecutive Big Ten title, they might have lost any shot at one of the 10 at-large bids into the NCAA tournament. The weekend split — Wisconsin won 4-3 Friday — bumped the Gophers to No. 19 in the PairWise Rankings. The statistical comparison mimics how the NCAA selection committee fills out its field after six teams get automatic bids by winning conference tournaments. Saturday’s victory moved them in a tie for No. 18.

The Gophers entered the weekend on the bubble at No. 17. And Lucia had hoped that a series sweep would put his team in position for an at-large bid, but the Gophers will need to win the Big Ten tournament now.

No score after one period.

What do you think Matt? Would you rather have a 2-0 lead, or do you think the longer this game stays scoreless the better off we are?

Looks like Bowling Green enjoyed that 2-0 lead.

WTH??? It just said we were ahead 1-0 online, and now the goal is disallowed. I wonder what happened....

Did you hear what happened? I might have to read a game story and see how we got screwed.

Goalie interference is what the call was that wiped out our goal. Funny thing is that their first goal, which happened about 2 minutes after our disallowed goal, also went to review for goalie interference. Ours was wiped out, their's stood.

Maybe they were both good calls, I didn't see either one. But that was the difference in the game. We lost 3-1 but one was an emptynetter.

What did I see you guys lose to graduation ... about 6?
Haven't done much checking into incoming classes.
Hope you guys reload quickly.

Only 4, but we lose our best defenseman and 3 forwards who did some scoring but were inconsistent. Ward was a guy who I thought was going to be a stud his upperclassman years, but he never really improved from his freshman year.

Good to hear
Easy reload
The Gophs are in this cycle of "we only lose 2-3 seniors" but it never seems to translate in our case.

Wow! Ferris State knocked off Michigan Tech in a 1-0 classic! Honestly, it's gonna be a shame if Michigan Tech doesn't make the tourney. Pairwise has screwed them (and all of the top half of the WCHA) all season long.

Ferris State and Mankato for all the marbles.

Michigan Tech's Alex Petan Named Hobey Baker Award Top-10 Finalist

twinsfan -> RE: Other college hockey (BSU, UND, SCSU, etc) (3/18/2016 10:27:00 PM)

Alex Petan – Michigan Tech University – Senior, Forward, Delta, British Columbia

The lone Canadian in the Hobey top ten this year, Petan (peh-TAN) has already taken home a truckload of hardware from the WCHA including Player of the Year, First Team all-conference and WCHA scoring champion. Petan, the team captain, helped Tech to a share of the WCHA regular season title as the Huskies now enter the playoff tournament with only one loss in 2016.

- Has 18 goals, 15 assists for 33 points in 36 games – has six power play goals
- Sport and Fitness Management major – assists with youth hockey and school visits
- In his 3rd career game, scored a goal which made Sport Center's #3 Play of the Day

twinsfan -> RE: Other college hockey (BSU, UND, SCSU, etc) (3/18/2016 10:27:50 PM)

St. Cloud State also has a Hobey Baker finalist:

Ethan Prow – St. Cloud State University – Senior, Defense, Sauk Rapids, Minnesota

The lone defenseman to crack the top ten has had a fabulous finish to his career. Prow led all blueliners in the nation in both points and assists. With the playmaking quarterback on the power play, the Huskies have had one of the best power plays in the nation. Already named First Team all-conference, Prow is a finalist for three more NCHC awards including Player of the Year.

- Has 8 goals, 27 assists for 35 points in 34 games – plus-minus of +29 is 7th in nation
- Team captain and senior CLASS Award candidate – Finance major
- Assists with youth hockey, reads to elementary students, and other service efforts

twinsfan -> RE: Other college hockey (BSU, UND, SCSU, etc) (3/18/2016 10:33:07 PM)

So I just checked...Michigan Tech is at #16 in the Pairwise. That will never give you an automatic bid, because a team from the American Conference (or whatever they call it) will always take one of the slots. So that means you need to be at least in the Top 15 to get in. Also usually one or two upsets happen in the conference tournaments, so you really need to be ranked #13 in the the pairwise to be guaranteed a spot. That sucks for the WCHA.

Oh, and I almost forgot to mention the Big 10. If Minnesota wins the Big 10 tourney, they swipe a spot (I guess that would be considered an "upset," as Michigan is the only Big 10 team in the tourney no matter what).

The whole thing is kind of a cluster-*$&%.

twinsfan -> RE: Other college hockey (BSU, UND, SCSU, etc) (3/19/2016 5:04:59 PM)

I'm torn. Would like as much Minnesota representation in the tourney as possible. But Minnesota State plays a little too dirty for my liking (at least in past years - not so sure about this year's team). Ferris State is a grinding team that would be a cool story in the NCAAs. Guess I'll just watch it and see how I feel about it as the game goes on.

SoMnFan -> RE: Other college hockey (BSU, UND, SCSU, etc) (3/19/2016 5:06:30 PM)

Go MAVS!!!!

twinsfan -> RE: Other college hockey (BSU, UND, SCSU, etc) (3/19/2016 5:27:32 PM)

Minnesota State scores on a PP with 10 minutes left in the 1st. Gervais.

twinsfan -> RE: Other college hockey (BSU, UND, SCSU, etc) (3/19/2016 5:35:34 PM)

Ferris State evens it up on the PP with 5 minutes left in the 1st.

twinsfan -> RE: Other college hockey (BSU, UND, SCSU, etc) (3/19/2016 6:54:12 PM)

Ferris State leads 2-1 as they start the 3rd period.

twinsfan -> RE: Other college hockey (BSU, UND, SCSU, etc) (3/19/2016 7:19:03 PM)

Typical dirty play by Mankato as they trail late. This is the same thing I remember them doing when Bemidji beat them in the North Star Cup last season (when Mankato was #1 in the country). They went with every cheap shot in the book the last 10 minutes of that game.

twinsfan -> RE: Other college hockey (BSU, UND, SCSU, etc) (3/19/2016 7:20:48 PM)

5 minutes left and Mankato is short-handed. The just hit the crossbar. Nearly tied it up.

twinsfan -> RE: Other college hockey (BSU, UND, SCSU, etc) (3/19/2016 7:21:14 PM)

And now Ferris State just hit the post.

Still 2-1 Ferris.
