BSU going with Wilkins in net vs. Huntsville tonight. Color me nervous.

Huntsville actually looks better than BSU so far tonight. Scoreless halfway through the 1st period.

Obviously, we can't lose either of these games to the Chargers.

twinsfan -> RE: Other college hockey (BSU, UND, SCSU, etc) (2/28/2014 8:42:00 PM)

This is ridiculous. We've had a million chances and can't put one away. 8 minutes left in the 2nd period and still 0-0.

twinsfan -> RE: Other college hockey (BSU, UND, SCSU, etc) (2/28/2014 8:42:34 PM)

DAMN!! BSU is down 1-0. BOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!

twinsfan -> RE: Other college hockey (BSU, UND, SCSU, etc) (2/28/2014 8:55:58 PM)

I guess what we're seeing here is the 2 worst teams in the WCHA battling it out.

Wild are starting on FSN - so you could ease the pain and switch over to that. [8|]

Someone that knows more about hockey is gonna have to tell me if this makes sense. I heard it and it sounded like a preposterous statement.

During the 2nd intermission the color commentator said that Bemidji really controlled the puck well in the first 15 minutes of the 2nd period. But they started losing control of the puck the last 5 minutes because since they spent so much time in the opponent's zone, the ice was too chewed up.

I have never heard that theory before in my entire life. Admittedly I don't watch a ton of hockey, but I've seen enough of it in my life that I thought I'd heard almost every standard announcer and/or coach line by now.

For the first time this season, the Alabama-Huntsville Chargers will take a lead into the 3rd period.

How sad is that?...for both BSU and AHU.

Huntsville's record this season is 1-32-1.

But I'm now very fearful it will be 2-32-1 in about twenty minutes.

twinsfan -> RE: Other college hockey (BSU, UND, SCSU, etc) (2/28/2014 9:26:08 PM)

This freshman Huntsville goalie is playing out of his freaking mind!!

11 minutes left and the Beavers still trail 1-0.

twinsfan -> RE: Other college hockey (BSU, UND, SCSU, etc) (2/28/2014 9:32:39 PM)

TIE GAME!!!

Sweet goal!

A defensive lapse by Huntsville.

The goalie finally ran out of luck.

Needed that. Feel sort of bad for Huntsville. You know they were smelling the win. They still very well may get it.

Lakeland Public TV is not very smooth. They've been unable to show a replay of the goal. Everything seems to be a struggle for this station when it comes to technology.

I became a LPTV member tonight....donated $50 because I appreciate the ability to see BSU games. Kind of weird when the girl that took the call didn't know how to pronounce "Bemidji." She said "we'll be sending you a - I know I'm pronouncing this wrong - Bee-med-high State hockey hat."

twinsfan -> RE: Other college hockey (BSU, UND, SCSU, etc) (2/28/2014 9:38:28 PM)

Win and we're tied for 5th.

Tie and we're tied for 8th.

Lose and we're alone in 9th.

twinsfan -> RE: Other college hockey (BSU, UND, SCSU, etc) (2/28/2014 9:40:27 PM)

And Huntsville scores with 3 minutes left. CRAP!

Freakin' Wilkins. They said Walsh was hurt tonight. Not sure how that can be. They haven't played a game in 2 weeks.

This will be a very bad loss. But I somehow knew it was coming for like a month.

twinsfan -> RE: Other college hockey (BSU, UND, SCSU, etc) (2/28/2014 9:48:55 PM)

BSU loses. Pathetic.

Sick game for the Huntsville goalie. His first win of the season.

Beavers are going to have to get some points out of either Ferris or Bowling Green to make sure they make the playoffs. I'm assuming they're going to sweep Huntsville, maybe I shouldn't do that.

You knew you shouldn't do that.

twinsfan -> RE: Other college hockey (BSU, UND, SCSU, etc) (2/28/2014 10:00:31 PM)

I'm gonna go cry myself to sleep now. Goodnight.

Lynn G. -> RE: Other college hockey (BSU, UND, SCSU, etc) (2/28/2014 11:58:04 PM)

Sorry Buddy. I hate losing.

Jeff/SMF, any comments about this?

SoMnFan -> RE: Other college hockey (BSU, UND, SCSU, etc) (3/1/2014 8:42:13 AM)

It does get to be an issue, but not one you should really bitch about.
Your snow build-up areas are usually in front of the benches where everyone scrapes on each change.
Its a minimal problem, imo, as far as handicapping anyone.
Crappy ice will occur from time to time especially in warm buildings, but I've never really heard anyone blame it for slowing an attack.
The biggest ice issues Ive seen affecting play, is the stickiness coming into periods ... if its not all frozen completely before plays begins, you can see a lot of turnovers created by the puck sticking on cross-ice passes. Can turn a game that way.

twinsfan -> RE: Other college hockey (BSU, UND, SCSU, etc) (3/1/2014 12:05:52 PM)

I just found it humorous that a BSU announcer, of all teams, would use the excuse that they've applied too much pressure, so it's screwing up their ice - hence, no goals that period. [&:][&:] Sounded ridiculous.

SoMnFan -> RE: Other college hockey (BSU, UND, SCSU, etc) (3/1/2014 12:08:38 PM)

Yeah, I was overthinking again ...
You're right, just a really dumb observation is all it was.  [:D]

twinsfan -> RE: Other college hockey (BSU, UND, SCSU, etc) (3/1/2014 8:25:58 PM)

Both of these Huntsville goalies will be playing in the NHL someday.

twinsfan -> RE: Other college hockey (BSU, UND, SCSU, etc) (3/1/2014 8:38:19 PM)

Bemidji leads 4-1 with a minute left in the 2nd. But believe it or not, the Huntsville goalie has been pretty amazing tonight. Not quite up to the level of his teammate last night, but close.

twinsfan -> RE: Other college hockey (BSU, UND, SCSU, etc) (3/1/2014 9:25:46 PM)

Dominating 4-1 win by the Beavers tonight after last night's disappointment. 48 shots on goal.

Always the way ... you rarely see the big program goalies move on.
Many times in the NHL, you look at the rosters and wonder where the guy came from.
Those who see a lot of rubber get very good at stopping it.
